LOL - a used Johnny packet - I haven't heard them called that for years!!!! Great explore matey, really enjoyed this. I'll give you a shout soon to see if we can arrange a catch up of some sort. ATB 🙏👍🏕
Thanks guys. Great video. Wow Dawn's stronger than she looks Tom mate you're solid looking fella. Hey and amazing, seems you and I share the same superpower.... 😁
Thanks Tom and Dawn for great history video I'm going to Surrey where I'm meeting up with my old school mates and we are going to explore abandoned air shelter cheers Tom and Dawn for sharing a great video 👍 👏
thank you so much , i live on the suffolk/ norfolk border and there must be some around here , as we litterd with pill boxes , especialy north norfolk where i lived for 20 years , 🕷🕸
Not a bad find. iv been down into one of them and thought its pretty cool, but unfortunate most of them is now either filled up, concreted, or really badly trashed :(
All 872 posts would have had a siren to sound the attack warning red (air attack in a few minutes). There was also a black warning (nuclear fallout on the way) made with flares. These were classed as explosive devices and we were not allowed to have them at the posts. They were supposed to be delivered by some mysterious means if we were ever put on alert, The observation towers were not part of the nuclear reporting role. There was s period when we were dong both aircraft tracking and nuclear, But I don't think we were expecting to see soviet bombers and jump in the shelter if a bomb came off one, The post I was on at High Easter had no tower when I was there. Recommend "Forewarned is Forearmed" by Henry Buckton if you can still get a copy.
Wow that's awesome to hear from someone who actually served in one mate and high easter is round the corner from me! Thanks for the useful information, I knew I had a load of mistakes and misinformation in there🤣👍 I found a flare box in the orlit tower of Brent Pelham a couple of years ago.
Cool Tom, until you saw the spiders 😱😳: they are Satan’s Spawn (spawn, not Dawn 😁) Glad you braved it… but it is a shame to lose these pieces of history. I assume there are one or two that are being preserved in proper condition? Hope the ‘Red Cat’ didn’t disappoint 🤞
Brilliant, Crazy and Mad ❤it😁 Proper information too🙏👌 (maybe get a telescopic ladder for Christmas😉)
Got one as well, left it at home!
