    Just got finished making this, very satisfied with the end result, for the cost you cannot beat how awesome it looks, makes a really great piece to hang on a wall, I recommend to anyone considering to do this to jump on it and do it, tons of fun and inexpensive to make. :) ALSO thank you Bill so much for these tutorials, I've learned so much! :D

    If you want to get a little more fancy, you can always drill out all those holes on the flash suppressor, or just fill them in with black paint.
    Anyway, the mustard is brilliant! I always love your quick and easy tips!
    When I want really subtle wear, or want the whole thing to make look more like metal, I just get some silver Rub n' Buff from the craft store and go around the edges and even rub a little on the flat areas. It also makes metallic area's a bit more shiny with a little bot of buffing.

      Modelmakers have a similar technique using salt and hairspray.

      Did two of these years ago and loved the results.
      I did one in just a straight oil rubbed bronze from a spray can, the other I did some more detailing ion similar to yours, where I drilled out the vent holes on the side of the flash hider, did a silver undercoat and masked a few of the corners and edges with small bits of torn blue painters tape. The jagged irregular edges sold the look, and came off easily enough, but I’ve got to say, I kinda love the “masking with mustard” idea. I also just picked up an AW Custom Airsoft version of the DL 44 and have been really impressed by the level of quality, the look, feel and function at what is arguably a really reasonable price.
      Loving your videos!
      Thanks for sharing.

    Was able to score a used blaster at my thrift store for $1.29. Muzzle was snapped off so I bought a second Star Wars blaster with a different muzzle and with the magic of glue, I made a “universe worthy” blaster and the painting and weathering from this video helped make my favorite prop I’ve built to date. Thanks Punished Props! ❤️

      Also, something I've learned while weathering my stuff that you might already know or might be new, if you are going for scuffed chipped paint, you an dry brush the edges, and on the corners, go a bit heavy, but with lightly stippling and making it look more chipped than just fully gone, it gives a neat effect

    I came upon a technique doing the same thing you did with mustard except it was with kitchen salt because where the salt is more layered the less paint goes thru but on spots where salt layer is thin some of paint goes thru and it looks like the paint is getting of layer by layer.

  • @MichaelTotin
    @MichaelTotin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't recall seeing the follow up to this. Did you ever build a more accurate piece?
    I have a few DL-44's and my favorite is my first build, built on a Denix reproduction. It has been mod'd and rebuilt more than a few times.
    At one time it had a real working night vision site and IR laser.
    The last mode converted it for use in a left handed holster along with some of the greebles and the site, "modernized". It still holds that configuration which I made for a live action play as myself, playing a character I made up, Bran Derlin, son of Bren Derlin. Actor Jon Ratzenberger is only a couple of years older than my father, so it fit the current timeline. Though I'm even a bit old to be a Star Wars "hero".

    • @MichaelTotin
      @MichaelTotin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I wish you had remembered adding weight to the prop you made for the recent sci-fi short you made that rifle for. My only complaint for the whole short would be that the actor looked like he was trying to make the weapon look heavier than it was.
      This often pulls me out of movies and makes no sense. Seal the drinking hole and put water in the coffee cup. Actors drinking from empty starbucks cups have become a new hatred. Some might argue that its fiction and deal with it. I say, if it's that easy to solve, do it. I know it's fiction. But if you interrupt the medium with stupid, you pull me out, and then I don't care and am likely not to like the experience. But that's me.

    • @punishedprops
      @punishedprops  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So.... help! I'm a super noob. I don't even own a dremel, let along an air brush. I was planning on doing this for Pax East in a couple weeks. I would do all my painting with the rattle can. For the black did you use gloss or satin? I'm also looking for a recommendation on the silver, since I'll be hitting the toy straight from the can, now airbrushing or anything. Krylon makes several silvers, from metallic to hammered to glitter. There's also things like satin gray.
    My plan was to do a base coat of the entire gun in sliver, then mask off the flash suppressor (and do the mustard trick) and do the black. That's it.
    Thanks for any advise you can give.
