    Just got back into DJing after nearly 10 years and upgraded from CDJ 800s mk1 to xdj-xz and rekordbox. What a foreign program to me, but this video helped me figure out how to change the best grid in the middle of a song with a variable tempo! Loving all the helpful videos for noobs like me. I have experienced your issue, too. Once back in performance mode the beatgrid seems to be not edited at all. However, the changes made in export mode just don't seem to appear visually in performance mode. Once you eject the track there and load it again, the beatgrid now is like you edited it in export mode :)

    My one question over time I’m sure I’ll build up a library of tracks.

    So when I adjust the beat grid for all tunes in my rekordbox and put them on a usb, I can then stick the usb in a CDJ3000 and the changes I made are still intact? I just manually edited the beat grid of a song on 1 laptop, and loaded it in another laptop, but the changes were not saved, so it seems like the changes you make are device specific. I'm wondering if this is also the case when I use a deck with usb input

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  ปีที่แล้ว

      The beatgrids stay in your Rekordbox library database on your DJ laptop, so you cannot take the MP3 and load it on another piece of DJ software an expect the beatgrid to be there. That said, when you export to USB to play on CDJs, Rekordbox also exports the beatgrids etc for that track, so in that case, yes they will be there.

      Lock the grid after you adjust it.

    • @Spooki_
      @Spooki_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you change the BpM in the “grid” section, that is what affects the actual track, and it will change automatically.
      The BpM that displays in the “collection” is strictly a label, (it does not affect the actual speed) and you have to change it manually.

  • @igordrm
    @igordrm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm facing situations in which I adjust the grid to the first beat of the track, but at the drop the grid does not stick to the beat, although the bpm is correct. Any idea of what is happening? I know that producers usally dont stack the kick with other percussion element, even if both are meant to sound together (just a slight difference between the kick and the other percussion, pretty much unnoticeable when the track is being played alone). So usually the drop's transient for each track differs, and by using the SYNC button the tracks do not sound syncronized. I have ajusted the beatgrid of my tracks more than once: taking the transient of the drop beat as a reference, or using the peak of the drop's kick. Anyway, the problem insists: or the beatgrid is adjusted to the drop's kick, and the it's off the intro's kick, or the beatgrid is adjusted to the intro's kick and get's off in the drop's kick. Of course, that issue is perceived when mixing and trying to beatmatch. (I know that this is a great opportunity of refining the by ear beatmatching, and this issue can make this debate arise). Any clue on what it's happening? Anyone would like to share how they approach this? Thanks!

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With modern electronic music this shouldn't happen, with older music or music ripped from vinyl it does, and you need to use flexible beatgridding by adding extra markers to "pull" the beats in line throughout the track (all software except Traktor can do that).

    I'm pretty sure older versions of rekordbox allowed for custom placement of the red marker without it locking into a 4/4 time signature, to the point where you could have multiple red-markers in a row! lol But now I have to use the iOS app just to be able to do that (in cases of short 3/3 breaks, or phase-shifts caused by drum-fills, breaks, or any number of other reasons). It's a hassle.

    Just want to confirm something because I started out on Serato. Serato has it's own set of issues the main one being that it is not mainstream for standalone CDJs used by pros. However, their beat grid editor and analyzer is actually simple to use and works pretty well with AI built in or whatever. Most likely I just have to play around with the editor. However my question is, Serato as adjust and slip. Adjust like expands or contracts the grid based on position whereas slip moves the entire grid. The main thing is if you are on beat 1 it will expand or contract the whole grid but if you are in a different section of the song it will expand or contract only in that area. Is this feature like this and basically that shift is like slip on Serato and expand/contract is like adjust on Serato?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the video .
    My genre of music is Soul, Motown, Funk and Disco.
    You already know about the problem with beatgrid. In serato if you do the fixe as you propose on your video with Rekorbox , it will make a distorsion to the sound when you listening to it where there's more major difference between the BPM (because it's not constant). So my question is, if it's do the same on Rekorbox when you Edit the song ?
    Thanks and advance for your time.

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the beatgridding on Serato is very good. It works in a similar way on Rekordbox, so if you do not like what you hear in Serato, you may not like what you hear in Rekordbox either! I’d say give it a go and find out for yourself.

    Nobody has been able to answer this for me, what if you want to add additional beats like a song that changes from 4/4 timing just for like an extra 2 beats for a drum fill before going back into 4/4 timing. It doesn't seem like Rekordbox is smart enough to let you add your own beatgrid markers into the song it just rigidly follows 4/4. HELP!

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because that would imply you want the playing song to "correct" itself back to the first beat of the bar, meaning it would effectively have to jump 2 beats or speed up. Just disregard the bar markers from that point on in those songs - the beat markers are of course still going to be correct.

    • @juniorchomsky9609

      I have not noticed any bugs. No DJ software makes perfect beat grids 100% of the time. Rekordbox is correct at least 95% of the time with modern songs (in my experience). Making little adjustments is easy. Rekordbox does an average job with original versions of old disco and funk and rock songs. But same is true with Serato, Traktor, etc.
