    . . . "Hey, the truck doesn't appear to be going into 4wd!"
    Raptor- "What sensor was that again? Did the line get pulled away? Are you sure the button works? Hook up the scan tool-NO, not that one. I'm not sure the actuator is working. Is the linkage. . ? Do you out the truck in gear and back up? Is there. . .
    Big Green- "Did you click the hubs in? Look underneath; Is the linkage moving? No? Grab that and push it back. OK, you're good now."

    Come on, Roman. Most folks don't use both tanks full-time. The _great_ thing about dual tanks is that you can _always_ pull up to the pump no matter which way you're facing. Fill whichever tank is nearest the pump and go on about your business. Filling both tanks is bad for mileage and is only necessary on long trips or weekend off-road adventures.

    You never talked about hold great it is working on old trucks due to massive engine bays and no electronics, how much better they sound then new cars and how much they cost to maintain over new cars.

      Yeah and another thing - it's sort of an unfair comparison. He's comparing a truck specially built for off-roading with a stock series truck. He should really be comparing a K20 with a Chevy Silverado 2500, or an F-250 if he is that much of a Ford guy

    • @jabroni6199
      @jabroni6199 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Disk > Drum. Doesn't matter if there's nothing wrong with a well setup drum or if they're still being used. It's an inferior brake design compared to disk.

    • @markm0000
      @markm0000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Semi trucks don't use drum brakes anymore. They switched over to massive disk brakes and it's considerably safer and more resistant. I've seen trucks with red hot disk brakes go down hills and they just won't fade.

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never said drum brakes were better because they're not. Yes, new semi have disc brakes with anti-lock and all that but new semi trucks still come with drum brakes too. And as previously stated well set up drum brakes work almost as well as disc. The fade comes from the friction material used not the brake itself.

    I've DD a '77 K5 Blazer for several years in Scottsdale. Bought it from the original owner, and he purchased it in Pueblo. It is a Cheyenne so loaded, with A/C and a factory tach, but he ordered it with the SM465. I did put a ORD lift in, so rear shackle flip, new leafs and front sway disconnect as well as the steering box frame brace. Unfortunately, she needs a new engine. Valve guides are leaking like sieves and I was going through plugs like crazy. Here in Flagstaff I keep a '80 K20 which I put a Tommy Gate on. Use it to get firewood, yard work material, whatever else. Also a SM465, no A/C which up here isn't an issue, but I gave up on it down in the Valley. Rides like a buckboard. Remember Roman, the issues that GM went through with lawsuits due to those saddle tanks? Dig the shirt, big PF fan. (is there anybody out there?) All that said, and I do love my Squarebodies, I'm really liking my Power Wagon. Peace!

    The stake pockets were also for hauling livestock. My dad would put the sides of the cattle rack into the stake pockets then lock the front and rear panels into place. He could transport one horse or cow in the back of the truck. A few years later he bought a used horse trailer at an auction. We had a late 70s Chev 2wd with cylindrical fuses. When the engine would stop because a fuse burned out, my dad would take out his pack of cigarettes and tear off a piece of aluminum foil. He would roll the foil into a tight cylinder and put it in the fuse panel, and the truck would start right up.

    My dad had a '79 C-10 (same but with 2wd). Three-on-the-tree, no a/c, only options were the 8' bed, AM radio and a painted step bumper that had to be repainted every year or two. Before the first repaint it had the dealer's name on it in military-style stencils.

    Roman, I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 that I purchased new and I still drive it. It's pristine, has the old 318, throttle body fuel injected and everything inside that truck is analog. I agree with you that the older vehicles are more fun to drive. I have other newer vehicles, but I love my Ram. It's definitely an experience to drive, and it demands more from the driver also, unlike newer vehicles that do everything for you.

    A cost effective way to upgrade the rear whole suspension on those old square bodies is with a trailing arm conversion kit. You could keep the rear end you have, wouldn't need an anti wrap bar, and it would ride a lot better.

    Throw Deaver Leaf spring on it. Deaver is the brand baja racers use in limited classes they will change your perspective on leaf springs, pared with some sort of mono tube shock will make a night and day difference. It'll be as good or better as that raptor, better flex and better ride.

    I'm not sure what the issue is with rear drum brakes and towing, I have a 92 Ford diesel with rear drum brakes and I have pulled crazy heavy loads up and down mountains and never had a problem.
    Lastly, the greatest thing about the old trucks is that you can usually fix most things yourself without paying a mechanic $2K. There is very little beyond the battery and maybe the brakes that most people could fix on that Raptor themselves

      The Fords from the 80's are going up as well. I have a 1986 F-150 with the 351W. In the five years I've owned it, it has gone from "Wow, that's an old truck", to "Wow! I love that truck!". It will be interesting to see how high the prices go because even though the truck is my extra utility vehicle I love driving it and won't part with it anytime soon.

      Cliff Warren that just tells you people think older is better. Car companies will never understand that because they are dumb. I never understood why companies don't ever try to do like throwback special editions. Like imagine if Ford tomorrow said next year we are going to release an updated version (as in new engine and tranny and maybe a few extra safety features) of the F-250 Highboy. People would lose their minds.

    K10 all day. I’ve got a 78 k10 with full time 4x4. If I’m rolling downhill I might get 8mpg, but that’s not really important to me. The truck has personality and style, and more than anything it’s dependable. My car is a 2014 that gets 38mpg and it spends most of its time in the driveway because it’s boring...it’s only if I’m traveling. It never fails to put a smile on my face when that old 350 roars to life.

      dchawk81 Better in what way?
      My '84 K20 has A/C,cruise, power windows, power locks, tilt, the premium sound option.
      It averages 20-22mpg. Up until just the last few years, a 3/4 ton couldn't get 20-22mpg.

      FCFordLord Personally, I just find them more comfortable in ways that you can't turn into a checklist.
      Although I do miss the no payment days. I won't lie about that.
      One day mine will be considered old but I'll still hang onto it. Probably. Unless I upgrade size.
      I just thought of one thing that comes to mind so apologies for the edits. The steering is a lot more car-like and comfortable with less of the babysitting play than the older recirc ball style have.
      Now I'm only coming from a 1998 Lincoln Navigator to a 2015 F-150 so my experience with well maintained trucks is limited, but even with an all new front end the Lincoln (an F-150 chassis) tended to wander. I'm told that's normal. The new F-150 has absolutely none of that and it's very responsive. It's also dead on center and tracks perfectly. It's far better for longer trips than the Lincoln is/was.
      Downside is it doesn't turn as sharp as the ol' Lincoln.

      FCFordLord my Raptor has adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, remote start, list goes on...makes it really comfortable vs my dads 89 Bronco 2, as awesome as it was to drive in high school

      If your Raptor isn't getting banged up out on the trails you're not using a Raptor for what it was built for.

    Raising the suspension of your Vehicle wears your tires out quicker the ride is extremely rough leads to pre mature drive shafts the way things were designed are bent and can possibly snap the transmission if that happens your talking about allot of money rebuilding the transmission From being up so high bent cool looking overall.

    As nice as a it would be to daily drive a new truck, like the Raptor (reliability, power, etc), I'd totally pick an old Chevy (like Big Green) any day. Because Square body Chevy's are just the best trucks ever made. Period.
