    Okay so throwing it WAYYY back to the first video from DIY Diaries when I tackled this stair area. Can you believe that was in April of 2020!?! After living with this space for over a year, there are some things I love about it, but also some things that needed a bit of a change. For starters, my dog Danny runs up and down these steps a lot, and in the first video of this series I painted these stairs white. Although I think it looks great, its really hard to keep clean, so my solution was adding in a rug / runner. I found this beautiful Turkish Rug from Etsy and honestly it is so pretty. Installing that was a new adventure I’ve never done before but I love how it turned out! Next I wanted to fix the lighting situation in this space. It was pretty dull, and I found all these beautiful inspiration pictures of these vintage chandeliers that I wanted to recreate. Lastly, I reprinted some prints for my preexisting gallery wall to give it new life and voila! What is your favourite part of this space? Would you do anything differently? Comment below!!

    As the daughter of a carpet fitter this is not how you do it, but it worked, hehe. The underlay is likely to slowly tear and start moving about if that happens you may want to remove it or get some gripper rods which will make it all more secure. Looks lovely.

      YES! I was going to suggest this! You could even color the parts of the rug that are too bright with Sharpies.

  • @TamarLitvot
    @TamarLitvot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +263

    I don’t think the brighter colors on the runner are the “right side.” As a weaver, the structure looks like the wrong side to me, and it stayed bright because it wasn’t exposed to sunlight and use the way the right side was.
    Also, as a weaver, I couldn’t watch you cut that handwoven rug. I felt physical pain and had to skip over it. (Of course weavers make cloth for clothing that has to be cut and this carpet is clearly not some rare antique).

I looked carefully at the closeups (about midway in the video) and don’t see those big blocks of purple color floats that she showed at the beginning. While I had trouble (emotionally) with her cutting the rug, I feel she did a nice job of putting it together on the steps and I prefer a real handwoven rug that’s truly and honorably worn over the trendy fake “worn” rugs.

    • @kstreet
      @kstreet 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pama.6410 "Play games with relationships"? Maybe you've seen some specific examples of intrusive comments that I haven't, but I don't think most viewers have any investment in their marriage. Some followers might, however, wonder fleetingly about the experience of the other person who we've been told lives there, who will presumably be using those stairs as much as Danny and Becky. I thought it was nice when she mentioned that Austin chose some of the images, so it's not ONLY her preferences, but a combination. Ideally they're all happy with their living space whether this is her work or just a hobby. If this stuff was super private for them, they wouldn't or shouldn't share this out on video to 2 million subscribers.

    • @pama.6410
      @pama.6410 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kstreet You even having an opinion that it can't be all her preference is an intrusion. Don't you see that? This is a marriage. A private covenant between two people - not between them and you or anybody else. How they live that is not up to your preferences. Maybe in their relationship ALL decorating decisions ARE Becky's. They don't need you instigating problems deciding what they can and cannot do if they want to please you. Showing her design decisions in her home is NOT an invitation to tell her how to run her marriage.

    Feel like if you pressure washed or shampooed the rugs they would be lighter more like you liked, and match together better, also pink would’ve been better cut off, maybe could be fixed since you left extra of other underneath it.
    Honestly was hoping be raw wood/stained type stairs, but the runner looks great, definitely shouldve been cleaned first though.
    Also regarding the railing, I get what you’re going for maybe could work with it have it more distressed like a wash show some natural wood and the white paint showing through so looks more intentionally left and original

    A good idea to measure the rug length you'd need is to run a thread up the stairs and tape it down around each step. Once you're done, the thread can be measured, allowing a few inches considering how thick the rug might be :) Loved the end result, Becky!

    Measuring! @@angieemm I live in an Eastern European country and I find it hilarious how Americans are so obsessed with these old/used Turkish rugs. Everyone had them when I was a child, our grandparents still have them in their old/unrenovated houses. We couldn't wait to get rid of them, we considered them so out of fashion, so it's weird for me to see how they use them in all their renovations (as these rugs are owned by a poorer section of the population in my country, the ones who couldn't afford to change them). :))

      @@emmbee1665 I believe technically vintage is 50 years or older. People usually love finding vintage stuff in good condition. With rugs like these though vintage seems to mean „worn out“ - they could be just 20 or 30 years old and just poor quality. (could, not saying that’s what it is)
