    You got it going on there cuzz. As a fellow Kentuckian I can appreciate the time and effort you put into great detail. Looks like you gutted an already built boat and sat it into yours, I mean the attention to detail is just awesome. In my experience I learned to hate the indoor/outdoor carpet because it was forever grabbing hooks and not letting go. But aside from that, I applaud you for a fine fishing rig. All you need now is a wife that can clean and cook your catch.

    What a great build! i had to giggle on the value of the overall completed project! However the mere thought of simply being able to build exactly what you need and the purpose its for could be priceless. you definitely gave this old aluminum hull a new life sir, good job!

    At first, after seeing the heavy materials you used to build this thing I had to ask myself if it was going to float or sink...lol...But your craftsmanship and choice placement as well as the absence of an outboard motor showed me otherwise. I wonder though, if you bothered to water seal that wood because I would be concerned about that. It is 2014 now and I am curious. Great job!

    MinnKota Terrova is probably the best trolling motor now. It has GPS, Advance Auto-Pilot, Recording track, remote control, and foot control too. It was the best investment I have ever bought. I have it for over 1 year now with over 100+ hour on it and it's still working great.

    The trailer is a lowes trailer that I bought at a place that sells lowe boats... It's adjustable from 12ft to 18ft and cost me about $595... I added the spare tire, bunk boards & walk boards later.

    One question!!! How did you install the brace for the seat in the front??? I want to put a seat in the front of my boat on the bench like you did. How did you install the thing on the bench that the rod sticks into? I am asking because for one I dont think you can just screw it onto the bench because theres not alot of support for the seat because you cant go under the bench to put a nut on the screw.

    It sits in the water higher than I expected it to... Very stable to sit and fish... I have stood on the front a few times to fish, but with a 48" wide boat, it's going to be a bit rocky if you move alot... I really have had no issues where I thought I was going to fall out though.

    The entire portion under my front deck is all storage, accessable through the hatch... I wish I had put in a bigger hatch, but I guess I was afraid it would collapse if I walked on it... I may have to lay down to grab something that has shifted in the large space, but so far I have been able to grab everything... I also put some foam padding (like you stand on) for sound insulation for the stuff I put in the hatch.

    @markmoore42420 this is great I wanted to build a jon with aluminum exterior and wooden interior because woodworking is my speciality but switching out cheaper and more durable aluminum for bulky , heavy , and expensive plywood was a great idea.
    This about proves my idea is able to work how does she handle on the water?

  • @markmoore42420

    That is my minnow bucket... It just lays in the boat so that I can keep my minnows alive.. I know I could have used a bubble bucket, but this is what I use in my other boat to keep shad and skip jack alive when I'm trolling for Strippers... It's basically just a rounded cooler with an aerator in it that runs off of 12VDC... I just put a 12V plug in so I could set it in this boat and use it as well, or an occasional spot light at night...

    So if the troller is on the bow, how do you get it on the trailer if the ramp is shallow and you have to have a tongue extension to get the trailer wheels and bunks into the water for launch and retrieve.... with 1 person and no wading knee deep in winter water?

    Thanks... The electrical is pretty easy.... all basic wiring... You just have to decide to start one day and take it a step at a time... I had no idea how to do any of it, I just look a lot at other peoples ideas and combined them all together with mine... I didn't even know if it would float, but I tried to keep the weight down as much as possible and keep it as balanced as I could... When I put it in the water for the first time.

    I really liked it. I am curious to how much run time you get. It isn't exactly to my tastes, but that isn't a negative. I am bass fishing with artificial bait exclusively so I don't need rod holders or live bait access. The only exceptions are for early crappie and sand bass fishing. I wish our lakes would get some kind of hp limit. My regular boat is 16 ft with a 40 and for someone who doesn't fish tournaments, it is fine. Unfortunately, we will never see hp limitations here. There is just too much water and just here in town we have Bass Pro Shops, Lawrence Electronics, and Zebco, so as long as there is big fishing money there will be big boats.

    Hell yeah...I'm thinking your gonna need all the batt. u can get with all that weight + equip. How stable is it? Looks like it would be really top heavy...Plus with 4 batteries and all that decking & hardware...How many people can actually sit in it and not be over the boats Max. weight capacity? I'm 6'2" and 250 lbs. By the time I put myself +1 or two in my 14' J-boat .....Let me just say that although this was an awesome job, I'd be really worried about getting caught out in rough weather...

  • @haveacrown1
    @haveacrown1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got a 14' flat bottom. My intentions when buying it was to add a deck to it now I'm hearing that it will make it less stable. It is already kinda shaky as I am pushing 300 lb. I was thinking that adding a deck would help distribute the weight throughout the "floor joist". Any thoughts on this???

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dalehughes3
    It's not much weight at all... I only have (2) 8FT 2x4s and 1 sheet of 1/2"plywood... The batteries don't weight much more than an outboard and I compensated the weight distribution by moving my front seat slightly foward... I figured if I kept most of the heavy weight down below the top of the boat, it would be pretty stable which it is... I had my 285+ butt, my brothers 265+ butt and all our gear, including a full of ice cooler in the boat... it floats great.

    @esbaboy88 You know I'm not sure... honestly I hate to add it up... It was more something to do during the winter... I get bored if I'm not doing something and this happened to be my release at the time... I know I paid $900 for the boat, $750 for the trailer, $750 for the trolling motor and probably another 8-9 hundred for the parts... Way more than I could ever get out of it if I wanted to sell it, but I didn't plan on ever selling it...

    Hi
    I just want to say nice boat! Im thinking about doing the same deck that you did in my boat because I have the same boat and my deck is just about shot. And I have a few question about how you did it. Like what kinda of plywood did you use for the decking. And do you have a blue print on this deck. And if you don't mind me ask how much it cost because im going to college and I just need a ball park figure so I can start saving up for this.

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1996TheRocketman
    I put the 2x4 frame in, then put the floor down on top... I left just enough space for a piece of plywood to stand up the same height as the front of the original metal seat... Since the seat was sloped to the center of the boat, it's the only way I could figure out how to make it level.... I then just basically bullt an L out of two pieces of plywood... The top is the size of the upper portion, and the other part of the L just gives me the rise to even it out...

    While I was building, someone told me the treatment they use for the lumber would eat a hole in aluminum... I made everything easy to remove in case I ever needed to replace it, but I took a panel off a month ago and they look brand new still... I guess it's because they all sit up so high and don't get wet... The carpet is rubber backed so the water runs off and goes to the bilge where it is pumped out.

    I have the Same 14 ft Topper, now after you've made your mods, how does it hold up? I'm concerned about modifying mine due to weight. Would be nice to see a follow up on this, show us how it rides in the water. Stable?

  • @markmoore42420
    @markmoore42420  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was alot more than I should have done, but since I was planning on keeping this, and all the parts were new, including the boat and trailer, I did it anyway... I really didn't keep track but I would say it was between $3500 and $3700... Like I said, I was not planning on getting rid of it, so I went all out.

    Awesome boat!! I'm getting tons of ideas on TH-cam for my first boat. I can't afford to buy a Bass Tracker so I'm looking into moding a Topper. Did your trailer come with the boat? If not who sells those type of trailers? Also, why did you have four batteries in the back? I didn't see any type of electrical outboard motor. Wouldn't that much weight be overkill when a single battery could power a trolling motor and depth finder? Keep up the good work.

    I cut holes in my bench to attach the front deck supports... I then cut some 2x4s and screwed through the bench and into the 2x4s inside the bench... This gave me some meat to screw my pedastal mount into, after I put plywood on my for deck and over my bench... I used metal wall anchors to attach the wood to my metal bench seat.

I wanted something that was small, didn't set in the water too much so I could get in shallow... This boat works great for that and I have all the electronic things I have on my Bass Tracker.... I love it.

    It looks great and functional. How much weight did the modifications add? Great job - I'm just curious about that part. Thanks.

    Most epic Jon Boat I've ever seen in my life. How much that thing run ya after all was said and done?

    I wanted to finish it, so I was concentrating on working on it... I forgot to take pictures of some of the stuff I did... If you want to know how I did something, I will try to explain... My way is not the right way though... I had no idea what I was doing when I built mine... I just incorporated things out of ones I saw on here, and filled in some blanks... You have to make it to suit you.

    You did a fantastic job, looks really good! Any difference in stability? I have a 1432 and its sketch even if I sneeze hard lol.
