After watching this,I come realize that Bruce Lee was right of changing Wing Chun into Jeet Kune Do to fit into fighting environment and situation. With respect to Wing Chun I think it's the person who will carry the art not the opposite. It's a wrong mindset that if you learn this art no one will defeat you. You must put your art to the test just like Bruce Lee did. In fairness there are lots of Wing Chun technique that can be modified and adapted to Jeet Kune Do and other Martial Arts.

Aside from the great and practical techniques..Thai Boxing conditioning plays a huge factor. Much like wrestling, a well-conditioned fighter is hard to beat. You fight like you train.
The surest sign of a scam dojo/martial art, is a low emphasis on conditioning. Typically these places are more larping studios than legitimate gyms.

A lot of martial art places focus on the technique / art / movement rather than fighting. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone wants to jump in the cage and fight.
Problem arises when they make false claims.
I tried Wing Chun for few years after 10+ yrs of karate / kickboxing. It was fun and great for coordination (Chi Sao and all)
That stuff is fun and works at 70-80% combat speed.
In hard sparring its too rigid. Too dependant on ‘structure’

Stomp kick (oblique) and
Bill Sao + punch counter to a long hook punch work great in hard sparring and street.
I know of someone who insists that he does not want and need to do conditioning like planks, squats, etc. He claims that he only needs a Wing Chun dummy someday and that he'll be unstoppable and untouchable.
He has a huge stomach as if he's 5 months pregnant and he has difficulty waking up the stairs. Could barely jog for a few meters.
That dude also claimed that he's not interested in competition like boxing and Muay Thai does.

Head kick was a classic set up.. To the Wing Chun man's credit he was able to stop the elbow strikes, but at boxing range he wasn't able to neutralize. I don't know enough about Wing Chun to comment though. Respect to anyone who steps in a ring to fight
My father used to do Wing Chun for years and switched to Muay Thai and did it maybe a half of a year and came to the conclusion that Muay Thai is better than Wing Chun. My father was also a black belt in JuJutsu, Kyokushin and taught Kyokushin for 2 years.

It can probably work. Problem is most of the practitioners of these traditional martial arts just practice forms. They don't really do actual fights or at least do full contact sparring. Plans change once you get hit in the face really hard and if you're not used to it you get bewildered.

Muay Thai doesn't need fancy shit, those shin bones are already weapons. Kung Fu seems pretty impractical in comparison. Though I would say the discipline one develops while practicing kung fu is still indispensable for success in other areas of life.
Eh wrestling offers far more in comparison to kung fu in all departments except striking tbh. (Muay thai and wrestling)
Wrestling provides a school team, builds character, teaches killer work ethic, phenomenal athletes who are strong, can grapple and is a killer base for mma, lands scholarships, got me my first internship because my boss wrestled.

There are some very good Kung Fu styles for full contact fighting. Wing Chun is not one of them.
Because in the movie it's always shown that Kungfu person can react faster than his opponent who throws a punch, in reality mostly you can't, best way is to absorb and fight back, and that's what muay thai and karate do.
Wing Chun relies too much on blocking the opponent's attack. However, it is always beter to dodge the force that tends to hurt you because there are certain attacking blows much stronger than you can block.
Wing Chun relies absolutly 0 on blocking the opponent's attack. It's about forming a triangle with your hand's infront of you, and your body, and to derive and redirect. There are 0 block techniques in Wing Chun but the stopp kick, and that's one pretty simply with not much strengh needet.

Wing Chun was never really proven against a real art , Muay Thai that we see today is a tone down version already. Real Muay Thai is Art to Kill even in Thailand they forbid a lot of stuff because its too Dangerous. If you ever have a chance see an underground real Muay Thai boxer in Thailand you might be lucky to see some nice and deadly move.

Just wanted to add , Muay Thai is a real art use in wars . Search Muay Boran or Muay Thai Boran as a start. They do have takedown , ground strikes , etc.. it is developed to kill in combat. Even in Thailand these styles are hard to see because they're banned from sports in the 1920's where people actually die in tournament therefore the King (Rama VII) modernize it.

Only practical Wing Chun I've seen in kickboxing and MMA is Qi La La. He's the best (and no, he doesn't do just Wing Chun but it is a strong element in his combat style)
The only thing thats Wing chun is his stance...but that instantly changes when he is pressured. When he is pressured he changes his style (because of its poor defense) or when he is pressuring (because it doesn't teach proper pursuit) he switches to Muay Thai. Its not Wing chun

I practiced Wing Chun and can tell you, it never really gets down to the nitty-gritty. You’re standing in class doing forms and drills in slow motion with a willing partner.
If you want to take up a martial art, learn judo, jujitsu, muay thai, Western boxing or anything that actually makes you spar.

Sure, Wing Chun combined with other styles makes it more competitive, but this also counts for other style-combinations e.g. Kickboxing + Jiu Jitsu. More interesting would be "style vs. style" only, e.g Wing Chun vs. Muay Thai or Wing Chun vs. Kyokushi Karate, etc. This would probably not reveal the absolute truth yet but can give observers an impression what might be more effective.

In defense to the great Wing Chun master of the East, at the end he was using the “Four Sleeping Leopard Fist” technique. It is utilized when your opponent thinks he will win the fight but as he strikes you transfer negative chi energy quickly like a leopard into the opponent and after 10 minutes he shall be poisoned and die.

It is meant for people to learn ALL that they can and throw away what doesn’t work for them.
For example; I take wrestling and I suck at the double leg, but I’m a demon at the single leg; JKD says throw away the double leg and work ten times harder on the single
I've been doing wing chun for 2 years and this is completely true. But I'm not saying wing chun is bad, some elements of wing chun can be used in the real world, but in a street fight you are getting crushed. So that's why wing chun is best when implemented into martial arts because the wing chun style can't adapt to street fights unless implemented or changed by a practitioner to adapt to the real world which can prove effective. So traditional wing chun would only be effective if you fought someone with no fighting history but if you fought someone with basic boxing your most likely getting knocked out.

yh clearly the crane stance was not strong enough to overcome even a basic jab, let alone an actual combo. Needs to go back to the dojo and practise on some more wooden dummies and fat neckbeard weebs and maybe he'll be good enough to beat a drunk dad at a BBQ.
Props to the MT guy for seeing his opponents weakness and using it, but up close the wing chun guy was devastating.

The video below shows 6 fights between WING CHUN fighters and Muay Thai fighters. The video was uploaded by a Muay Thai channel.
Out of the 6 matches, muay thai fighters won 4 fights and wing chun fighters won 2 fights. The battles were closely fought except for one where the Muay Thai fighter knocked out the WING CHUN fighter with a kick to the neck of the wing chun fighter. The wing chun fighters dominated in fist fighting while the muay thai fighters dominated or excelled in kicking.

Ever since the UFC in 1993, every martial art "proved" useless ... at first. Then, one by one, each martial art produced a fighter that proved those skills were useful after all.
Wrestling was useless
... until Ken Shamrock stalemated Royce Gracie.
Boxing was useless ... until Don Frye.
Judo was useless ... until Karo Parisyan.
High kicks were useless ... until Crocop.
Point-fighting was useless ... until Wonderboy Thompson.
It is only a matter of time before Chen Village produces a Tai Chi fighter that knows how to protect his head. And then you will see the double-leg takedown disappear from the sport. Chen guys squat so low, no wrestler can dive deep enough to get past their defenses.
Then bagua footwork will make every past fighter look like they were afflicted with tunnel vision. Forward-backward-forward movement? Really?

not gonna happen, maybe some small elements will make it through, butt the full style will never translate into the ring. its too far removed from actual combat. what all kung fu styles need is a ufc style event for them to really fight it out. have it be bare knuckle and extremely limited rules (eye gouges, back of the head punches etc). then in about 20 years you will see kung fu fighters that can at least hold their own in a ring. they will still get messed up by mma guys but they will do better than they have been

Point-fighting is equally unrealistic, and yet when Wonderboy fights he looks just like a point-fighter. Why wouldn't tai chi and ba gua produce a fighter like him, where it still looks like where he came from?
Maybe you haven't seen older styles. They are full of wrestling moves.
@@kedabro1957 well someone needs to bring those styles back then. the reason muay thai and bjj are so effective is that they are in use in real competition constantly, where kung fu has been largely ornamental for decades. kung fu needs to strip the mystical bs away and get back to real fighting. i can see a future where certain elements of certain kung fu styles could be effective in mma, but not yet.
