Learn Thai: Silent ร. เรือ that we don‘t pronounce | NOT /r/ to /l/

The ทร- pronounces as ซ- and it sounds like a single consonant. There are only 18 words.
Example:
ทราบ: to know แทรก: to interrupt
ทราย: sand ทรัพย์: treasures
ทราม: bad ทรุด: to collapse
พุทรา: a kind of fruit ทรง: form, shape
ไทร: banyan tree ทรวดทรง: body shape
นนทรี: a kind of tree ฉะเชิงเทรา: the name of a province
โทรม: to look shabby , decayed นกอินทรี: eagle
ทรวง: chest อินทรีย์:organic substance
มัทรี: the name of a character in Thai literature เทริด: a kind of crown

I m Thai and I pronounce very clearly cluster and so my son does, I put him in speech therapy since he was 2 😅. I m good at not only speaking and also Thai writing. พูดชัดมาก ควบกล้ำต้องมี ร.เรือ ล.ลิงต้องถูกที่ 😆

ขอบคุณครับคุณครู One I thought of was โทร ike in โทรหา it is not pronounced as ซ but that may be because it is an abbreviated form of โทรศัพท์ where the ร is pronounced

Only these 18 words with ทร as ซ. The rest doesn’t apply this rule. โทร is just an exception that ร เรือ is mute.
Wow !! I had a lot of WOW-moments by listening, especially with the word จริง and the fact that people drop ร sometimes ( กรุงเทพ ) as you tought us.
One little mistake : โทรม means shabby, but shappy means some kind of happy or happy person 😀

Hi Kruu Nam.i have a few questions regarding the cluster letters ทร and also some of the other words. I noticed that some words still have the t sounds although the ทร is pronounced as saw-soo sound. Example a type of fruit phut-sa, name of thai character, etc. If I have other words to ask I can email to kruu?

Every word in Thai has its tone! Some words has tone markers some words do not have a tone marker but every word has its tone!!! You need to learn tone rules. กา ขา จะ รับ ยาก all of these words has no tone markers but they pronounce in different 5 tones due to the tone rules
Every Thai letter has a built-in tone, namely its tone will fall under one of the 5 tones. So when a word is pronounced with its default, built-in tone of the letter used, additional tone mark is not needed. Put another way, the tone mark will be needed only when the word requires a different tone from the tone that letter provides.
