The Ornament and The Tree

  • I've made an inside-out Christmas ornament. I built this by cutting out 6 diamond shaped pieces of blood heart and purple heart wood. I stacked the 6 pieces together to make a six-sided star pattern. I clamped this construction together with hose clamps. Next I turned a chunk out of this cylinder, and then I rotated each piece of the star 180 degrees to point the hole that I had made in towards the center. This made a void in the interior of the cylinder. I could then turn the outside of the ornament with a void in the middle. I made a little wood turned Christmas tree out of holly wood and placed it in the center of the ornament. It looks a lot like a Lego Christmas tree.
We also went on an excursion to cut down our own Christmas tree at Nobles Only Christmas tree farm.

Crafted Workshop that wooden globe is what a normal traditional ornament looks like, so he put the tree inside the ornament, and put that on a tree lol.

Excellent video, as always. I think I've actually been to that Christmas Tree farm. We went there for a few years then switched to Christmas Mountain and made a tradition of stopping by MeMenamins Rock Creek Tavern on the way back. Now, we just get them at Century High School. No more rolling in the mud for me.

Today, Oct. 23, 2017, I stumbled across this video. Not only did I love watching you create a beautiful Christmas ornament starting from your imagination. Then you all trudged through the field just trying to find that one perfect Christmas tree...VERY well made video that not only shows a person how the ornament came about, but seeing it being hung on the tree by the little ones. What a great way to make memories. WELL DONE! Off to watch you create a "Snow Bell"!

My Grandfather had this nice tradition: He used to keep a piece of the wood of the christmas tree after christmas, let it dry for the rest of the year and made an ornament out of it in december (and sometimes toys etc.) This way we could keep a piece of every christmas and make it a part of the new one. He started doing this for my uncle's first christmas and did it every year until his age and arthritis made it impossible. He made a total of 53 unique ornaments; some simple ones, some more complex. Turned, carved, painted etc. Maybe your kids would like something this.I loved this as a child and I still do, because I'm always a bit sad that you have to throw that lovely tree away after christmas and I was very exiced to see the new ornament each year.

Winter solstice greetings to you Frank and your family... Thank You for your videos...! The turned inside out ornament is a fine use of 3D space... the tree in the center is a great symbol for the christmas in our harts... A tree tip: Next year, bring a string along and tie up the low branches before cutting. Greetings from a chill Denmark...Jakob.
