- This is a slightly better video on the Shark Pro Steam Mop Model S3601 Dis-assembly. I had more but sd card was full and lost one video. so i put together what i had. and i left it uncut raw video. I no longer have the unit as i have given it to a friend so i can not do more on it. Plus i got a newer one, maybe will get another S3601 later. For now, this is it. hope this gets less thumbs down. oh well, either way it helps many. good luck. look to other videos for cleaning the hot end as they did good ones. if you use distilled water, you will almost never have a deposit build issue. same goes for you car radiator/cooling system.

My wife was ready to throw our Shark Pro Steamer away. She cleaned the jets etc. I had NO experience working with the Shark, AND I had already tried taking it apart to get to the insides. This video was EXACTLY what I needed to get to the problem, AND it worked great once I was done! I had NO idea there were screws under those label things. Thanks for a great video!
This is very clear but a bit beyond my skill set.. It is always wonderful to see how clever many people are.

This was perfect! Thank you very much!!! On an additional note, when I opened my case, there was a long loose spring hanging out. After some other videos, I found out that this is placed inside the tube running to the bottom of the heater unit. My tube broke and the spring came out. So....if anyone finds a long spring inside, that's where it goes!!!

Thanks, I didn't look under those little labels, they are not afraid to use plenty of screws in shark products thats for sure. IF your pump is really loud and you have no steam, there is a screen inside that gets clogged with goop, soon as I cleaned it my beloved machine was brand new again.

Great help. You mentioned a few people did not give you “thumbs up”, they must be the ones who gave up at some point. Probably wanted some easy fix! These things are NOT built for mortals to disassemble! They are assembled by robots, as disposable appliances. Of course with built in obsolescence. As are most items today.
This video showed exactly where the “Hidden” screws were.
The one additional thing I would mention, with regards to the disassembly and reassembly, is to separate the screws from each removed item, with a little label denoting which part they are for. This is due to the differing lengths of the extremely similar looking screws.

Thanks for the video. VERY helpful! I never would have found those sets of screws under the switch and the 'Shark' emblem. I tried and couldn't figure out how to open it. Glad I didn't just use force and watched your video instead. Omce.i get it open I'll figure out the problem. I'm guessing it's a clogged line. It's sounds like the pump is straining so it might not be getting the right amount of water. FYI, I've learned to use distilled water since it has no impurities. And for $0.89 A gallon, it's worth it and lasts awhile. Thanks again for the video
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I got mine all apart (and back together), but couldn’t get the little motor apart inside there. It’s all corroded but I couldn’t get the screws off of it to clean it out. Got it back together and put vinegar in the tank. Gonna let it sit over night and try to get it to work again. It gets hot but no water or steam come out. Will get some CLR and try that. If it doesn’t work, in the trash it goes!!
I get it. Tried your best. Sometimes it's just the way it is and it can't be repaired in a reasonable amount of effort.
But I would let it soak in clr for a while or multiple times, the screws may become accessible after a bit of time and then allow you to access the heating chamber. Overnight may not be enough to clear out all the crud. Usually stuff like that may take a couple of times to get through the layers of build up. But it could also come off quickly, I just don't know without seeing it myself.

Hi George (?), thank you for the video, I had a slightly different model, but your disassembly was 98% similar. Our heater was plugged with weird white/yellow flakes and wasn't worth reassembling. But you prevented some brain damage with showing where all the screws were. 1 minor criticism, mine needed a "sharp" # 1 & # 2 screwdriver. Thanks for saving some brain damage!
I say clean out the mineral deposits. It's not hard if you use some chemicals. Another person shows how to clean it using chemicals and a brush and then reassemble. Everything in the world needs maintenance and cleaning.

Well done video. I loaded my shark up with 70/30 vinegar and water while watching. All of a sudden , 10 minutes or so, I had hot vinegar steam. Insert the joke here!. I think what we'll do is drain the water after using and run it dry, like a mower being put up for winter.
Anyway, I know what to to do when the vinegar won't work.
+jim s thanks. And just another tip, distilled water and will never have a problem. Reverse osmosis water may also work to an extent as long as there is no minerals to flavor water in the system.
It's a touch different, but this guide also works for the S3601C (couple less screws in some area's, couple more screws in other area's). Thanks - I need a guide to get into mine (wanted to be sure I hit all the hidden screws) and see why it was working intermittently (I could hear the pump was working, and the steam was very strong when it did work.. Just the way it would work then not work then work. One of the lines on my tank was plugged between the plastic collector just before the pump. Thanks!

$30 or so gets you a driver set. You will use them more then once. Believe me. It's why I got some 15plus years ago

Great video, I've found in mine the transistor controlling the low voltage minipump which supplies water for the heater.
So a small transistor or a large mosfet? Just being curious me.
@@Georges3DPrinters Can't figure out exactly what was original, wasn't able to read due to the damage. The capsule was TO-126. Is a low voltage NPN, the pump motor looks like a toy one. After the configuration, I've figured out that MJE521 will do it just fine due to 4A max collector current. Pins configuration is identical with the original, load in the Collector, Emitter connected at Negative. Transistor has no radiator but might be some dissipation on it especially on low and middle settings when the transistor is managing to lower the pump water flow.
Hmmmm. Makes me think how well they got to the operating limits.
Theoretically might be ok. The downside is that electronic board is enclosed, not that good heat dissipation and the motor circuit has no protection, like inductive filtration. I'll let you know how mine survive... in time :).

The disassemble process for this however makes me never want to purchase a shark product again.
I can definitely understand that feeling. But not everything is this bad. My guess is liability with the heating element. They have to try to keep you out for "the idiots can still sue" reason because some people will sue because they where burned by there own actions and claim it was too easy or some other crap and they should be paid because they where hurt because it's not made hard to dismantle.
For example bad case scenario for this being HVAC tech I see videos where people show how to reset the safeties and I just think to myself oh my goodness idiots will now hurt themselves because they have no clue of carbon monoxide poisoning or flame roll out or the reason why the safety tripped in the first place because it's complicated and it's a safety for a reason. To keep you safe.
But this steam mop? I just feel like people should be able to fix there own stuff. I think it should be a constitutional right to be able to repair your own stuff.

Great video what a difficult time trying to get those little screws. This thing is brand new I’m putting it garbage. Too many screws and I’m not a handy woman. You did a great job I just don’t have the right screw driver or the patients.
Great video. At some point the people at Shark swapped some of the #2 phillips screws for security torx screws.
This!! I have torx bits but need to find a long skinny enough one.
Some hardware stores have the screwdriver's that have torx. If it's security torx, it's probably best to order a set from online. I got a nice set during the Christmas sales at the hardware stores.
If your looking for a decent set for everything from electronics to basic repair for items, I think "I fix it" has the tools that reach and fit. I will occasionally use a couple bits stacked up, like a Phillips bit inside of a nut driver bit inside of the driver tip. I love my set, and have used it for all kids of stuff.

Good video. A word of caution with Model S3601C - note the C at the end. That is the CANADIAN version. Well the difference on outside is 'chrome' plate is grey plastic. Inside same BUT they have hard epoxied ALL hose connections on the inside .. which makes it basically impossible to remove hoses.. one has to replace the entire pieces inside . This is important so you don't waste your time if you have the CANADA MODEL. It's made for obselesence or if you have warranty. My Mother was using tap water so she ruined it. Used DISTILLED ONLY. Aside from that..these things are pretty junky in general.

Thanks for the video. You really know what you are doing. The only other thing I needed to know is what to do if the steam is not coming-out? Should I clean the tubing? Another video with different model number soaked the heating coil in CLR that gets calcium off of things. Please advise
One of two things, either heating chamber is dirty/clogged and needs to be cleaned, or there was a bubble of air in tube, like what happened to me, add water to tank and start moving tank around a bit. May see water trying to move, I had tilted it and bubble went up and out tank, something to try before taking it apart further. Watch water in line to see what it is doing. The moment you plug it in, the heating chamber begins to warm up. So be extremely careful. Don't burn yourself, wear gloves. Have heard of someone using oven mitts to hold.
Every once in awhile a simple bit of air pressure applied to water tank, blowing in air as it's pumping water will help break that are Bubble airlock. Can save the trouble of dismantling steam mop.

Good video and well explained Unfortunately I fell at the first hurdle because my Shark has tamper proof screws . I guess I will have to source a proper screw driver

But I got mine from Christmas sale at home depot. Including torx.
Security bits or tamper resistant screws driver bits are sold at a few stores. Try harbor freight. Or get a decent set from Amazon or home depot.com

When removing so many screws please indicate if the screws are all the same size, or if they should be separated for convenience when reassembling. Also, indicate what should be cleaned for a clogged head, or lack of water coming out.
Thank you for your criticism. I thought I had mentioned things about the screws.
But as for everything, I can't get to technical, because not many will want to watch a long video.
I also mentioned why I didn't explain so many different issues.
But if you have issues with clogged nozzle, another person did videos on how to de-scale the heating chamber. I would recommend some kind of calcium remover, but recommend vinegar first. Some descalers can damage and pit the metal if not done correctly.
I will make a follow up trouble shooting video. Im just busy with other things at moment.

It's going to be the same for many things, so would be good to get a decent set from say Amazon or home Depot.com. They sell sets of both security and plain. I recommend security with a warranty. If you can find a set that includes those screw drivers, it may be cheap to go for that.

Make sure it's not a thermal fuse on the lead also. But online search via Google pops up a few.

Mine is a "C" model, it does have goop on all the connections. My heater failed so I'll see how much $$ for a replacement part.

+fullquiver11 some spring are to keep tubes in place. Silicone tube is very flexible. Some tubes had them inside the hoses.
Some are on the outside for different reasons. Mainly it's to keep the tube from collapsing

I just have a question my machine works fine it's just the motor sounds like it's going to die any minute. But like I said it works really good. Any ideas what could be causing that?

Which can be noisy in a budget situation such as building things that cost so company makes maximum profit.
The very quiet ones are ones you will see for your IV machines and are far more expensive.
But I think they switched to a gear pump? I can't remember.
Bearings go bad and they'll sound like crap. Just like anything else.
Whichever one you have you should be able to order the part online.
Dear George, Thank you for this interesting video. I have model 3601A_N but only used it for the first time even though it is over a year old. It did not t make much steam. I called customer service, and it was determined that I seem to be missing a tube inside the reservoir where the water goes. (there is no tube visible inside). As it is out of warranty they only offered me a discount. Do you know about this tube, and is there a way to fix this?
If it's Missing a pick up tube, might be able to find a plastic straw that fits to replace it. Try looking at older spray bottles, shampoo pump type bottles, etc. You may find something in your own house that you can use to replace it with sometimes. I have used mazola corn oil cap for a gallon jug to cap an old car reservoir for coolant or windshield wiper fluid. Tubes from many spray bottles have saved me many times. Then there is Lowe's or home Depot or ace etc.

Look up picture of a set of security bits, then should be labeled in some pictures. Will help you find the right screw driver. Home Depot has most in stock. And harbor freight sells sets too.

i dont know wha the heck is going on with my steam mop, it stopped working, I used CLR left it for 24 hrs, but the pump doesn't seem to try to pump out any steam. Wondering if the pump is a goner or should i open it up and check ?
Did you follow the clr videos? I believe I quickly mention why I only just show taking it apart, and that many other videos show how to clean the chamber.
Like the pump is apart and just the heating chamber is soaked in CLR. Did you pour in the CLR in the the tank? Not sure if that would work.
On the back of the bottle of CLR it says do not use on aluminum. If say you put it into the pump and it's aluminum then it could have caused an issue. But if it's a "peristaltic pump" then it's not an issue. I would say that if pump is running and not moving water you probably have an air bubble somewhere.
I think suggested several things about dealing with the corroded screws and what not.
I need to know what you did exactly so I can best answer your question.
But I would open and check to see if pump is pump water or if it has an air bubble. I would separate the tu e from heating chamber and see if water is pumped, if yes, then move on to the heating chamber.
I should add, I'm a bit tired and sunburnt. And I am barely having my second meal of the day. It's been a long one.

depends but most of the time it will be a wire or tube that is getting in the way.
Mine just started leaking where the connection is for the mop head. There is that space there where the connection is right underneath the release button. It starts dripping and steaming there. Recently it was clogged and wasn't producing steam, now that's fixed and now this.
Sounds like the seals are bad. Look at tip when head is removed, will have two o-rings on it. Can pick them up in a set from Harbor freight that has an assortment of o-rings, some hardware stores carry them too. If you just see empty notches, then you need new ones. Can break over time as they dry out. Simple black neoprene? ones.

Yes. Like a rubber band on a newspaper roll. Except there is two perfect rings.
Local hardware store should have this in hardware section or in the small brass plumbing fittings. Heck there are some silicone o-rings for vape pens that would work. Just saying, use what you got or can get.
@@Georges3DPrinters I called Shark support and the rep said it seems there is a crack somewhere. I've had mine since 2012. They offered me a discount on a new one, so I took them up on it. It could be a good ploy for them to offer to buy a new one when people call when they hear that you're mop is a few years old. It's okay though it's nice to get a new one.
My heating element wont even get warm nothing not even trying to get working but the Turbo dirt lifting button makes just the vibration works like it is supposed to but not the steam if i pump it i can get some water to come out but not even tepid. It does not engage steam not trying no sound and cold water will come out if i pump it.Help me please.mine is the SM-200. WITH DIRT LIFTING TURBO FEATURE ON THE FRONT YOU CAN PRESS A BUTTON AND IT MERELY MAKES THE MOP VIBRATE.

I'm thinking if it's not getting warm, either a thermal fuse, bad cord, or a burnt heating element.
Just pour vinagar in and let it stays over night. You don't need to take it a parts lol
Dismantlement is only for repairs or troubleshooting.
So how do I buy a replacement heater core?
Most just buy parts online, but never heard of the core going out, thermal fuse, wires, calcium deposits, but have not seen bad core yet. I will see what i can find

This is what I find in a small search for the heating element, none that are new.
But I would dbl check the thermal fuse. It will be on the power wires for the heater core, like a metal tube/straw that is on a metal wire that is crimped to the core wires.
If you can check continuity, it will tell you, most squeal when then connection is good, some just read 0 ohms
How do you make the damn water come out?????
Sometimes it takes inverting pump from water tank. Like it has to prime, but no easy way really to prime it. There is a trick I do, I blow a little pressure into tank as pump on. But if Heating chamber clogged, then nothing will go through.
I'm not sure if you're still on here...but I've tried everything to get those 2 screws off on the top that are down pretty far. No luck. Tried a ton of different screwdrivers:(
Which ones? Can you take a picture? Maybe they switched screws or something
The regular one I used was a number 2 Philips screwdriver.
Maybe it was length of screw driver. Can take it to home Depot and show them what you need to do so they could get you the one you need.

The mop head can come off to attach other steaming attachments for various tasks. I know there are two screws on the tip after pressing that button to release the attachment/mop head. But I have never removed those screws yet for any reason. But your model could those two small #1 Phillips flush head screws.

Sounds like a clogged heating chamber/nozzle.
Does case get warm? Then heater still works and needs a cleaning. There are other videos of people cleaning that out. Check out their videos for that. I have not put any up regarding that.

Then I recommend a drill and long bits for the drill. Amazon has some cheap sets that are decent
The right drill is handy for many home projects and available attachments make them more versatile. I can remove lug nuts from my truck with adapters and a 1/4 impact. Makes a tire change go much quicker.
You can be the sweetest peach on the tree honey and someone is not going to like peaches...so screw em!
What do you do if you can't select a steam setting? Flashing blue light remains on?
