Ill = unhealthy. I think it’s used much more in that context in the UK, but Ren actually made a community post on his channel because some people have been misunderstanding the title of this track. It’s a very similar naming convention to “Sick Boy”.

Illest of our time refers to his actual hellacious experience with Lyme disease, for which he was misdiagnosed for years and nearly killed him. It was through dealing with the bitterness of that near decade long constant physical and mental pain and debilitation that inspired 'Hi Ren'.
I think this song grants us access to Ren's mind. It shows a constant struggle of dark and light, psychosis, depression and incredible talent. He has been fighting this physical and mental condition for so long- sometimes you just need to let off some steam 😂😂😂
"Losing it" is a good one for skills but not too deep though, just fun and driving. It's a good track.

That’s a double entendre. He’s rapping about being great at rapping while using metaphor to talk about his Illness. The line about getting bronchitis and being in your funeral coffin (coughing) is reference to autoimmune disorders where simple infectious diseases are a possible death threat.
Listen his band The Big Push and their cover of Bob Marley/Dead Prez called “I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop” if you want more chill with amazing guitar and singing. The Tale of Jenny and Screech (FULL) trilogy isn’t bars. It’s a masterclass in story telling. Probably The Hunger, Losing It, Genesis, and an old school nod to the Beastie boys called What You Want would be his most bar heavy hip hop tracks.

He's explaining what he's been through, his symptoms, how he feels when he's at his worst, aching, shaking, stuttering. What the pain actually feels like.
Second stanza is some of the effects and damage caused by the years of having Lyme disease. The Lyme ate away at the membrane surrounding his brain. That's why he's in Canada being treated by one of the only specialists in the World who may be able to save him from possible brain damage and further complications. When it all goes well (I"M PRAYING) it's giving him a chance at a long and healthy life.

‘Genesis’ is gold bars, killer beat, but a more formulaic rap construction of chorus|verse|chorus - but it’s Ren so it’s deep. ‘The Tale of Jenny and Screech’ (trilogy) is story time, a very dark story - it’s kinda genius. You’ll love them both.
His thing about depression reminds me of a Tech N9ne line. He said something like, "I'm not famous, I'm just a fuck up and ya'll desire pain."
Kind of like how many artists use music as an escape or an outlet and people connect with it.
You see that everywhere, even in comedy, where it really doesn't make sense, but look at how many comedians we've lost to depression.
Pain can make us strong and depression is something people find a natural attraction to.

great reaction, but it's interesting how quite a few American reactors, take the title "Illest of our Time" as meaning that he's hinting how great he is. When its far from it. It's about his mental "ILLNESS" and the suffering over the years, being misdiagnosed with Lyme Disease, the reason for most of his health problems. In Plain English, the title means "Most Unwell of our Times" I thought you might have got it in the last verse. which is all about his mental health and depression. The last verse was the biggest hint ever, It began with "I don't Feel So Well" and he said it three times. But the title it could be a a double 😉😊

I am no rapper but I have been studying chemistry with my son, have mental health issues and love Freddie Mercury. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that Freddie Mercury bar was a triple? I’m heavy(his material is deep and dark), Mercury is a ‘heavy’ metal on the periodic table, he’s calling out an homage to Freddie Mercury and shit, he’s calling back /cycling back to his Freddie Kruger reference earlier because he’s going heavy on the track? Ok. Is that quadruple?! Someone help me out here. P.s. I’m an ex pat Brit living downunder. I can attest that illest in US slang is different to what Ren is referencing. It’s a play on words in the title-Ren is literally I’ll in real life and he’s figuratively inviting you into the mind of one of the most unstable fictional characters of our times and identifying with Holmes’s psychosis. Anyone familiar with Sherlock Holmes knows that he was written as a mentally unstable opium addict and his sidekick, Watson was his calming , real world anchor who sorted out the noise in Sherlock’s manic mind and offered a ‘real world’ alter ego who kept bringing Sherlock back from madness. REN is figuratively taking you into the mind of an ‘ill’ character, elementary school In Britain is similar to saying you’re starting elementary school, the Sherlock bar is also shot in an elevator presumably at the ground floor or basement level, but also another definition of elementary= it makes sense-to Ren to start you off at the beginning of his tale. That’s what I got from all that. Note he also emphasizes the word ‘I guess’ at the end and closes his eyes intentionally to shut you out of his mind, I’m guessing. Keep reacting, mate.
