Thanks so much! Saved me about $50. Note: if you want a stiffer piece than the cardboard, use an old credit card/gift card and do the same thing. I cut a longer piece and just super glued around the outside of the whole where the left joystick goes. That way you don't have to work about a smaller piece moving out of place and having to start over. Works great! Thanks again! (:
12 Years later and this still works LMAO. Just recently bought an rgh that had no controller with it so I had to pull out one of my old modded controllers with the left bumper not pushing in. Thanks and this man is coming in clutch with the save of $300 for a new controller since they are no longer manufactured
Thanks dude. I just got a used wireless controller at gamestop today and I didn't realize anything was wrong with it until I started playing a game that relied heavily on the right bumper. Not only was I able to fix my problem, I also know exactly how to take apart my controller without breaking anything. Heads up for anyone who tries this, a torx screwdriver is not a necessity. You can use a very small flathead. It will fit in between some of the notches. I personally had no problems with stripping the screws even using the incorrect tool.
seriously this is exactly what i was looking for when i typed in how to fix your xbox controller, thank you so much i really appreciate it, but just one thing, this is the most stressful thing for me to do i hate working with little pieces like this. it literally took me about an hour an a half to do this, i was sweating and everything, but in the end it was worth it thankyou again.
What's funny is that the sick button is always the left bumber (LB). I've had like three controllers and all of them had the same problem. This one is the fourth one and I won't spend $$$ in another controller. Your video saved me!! Thanks dude....
I've messed around with different designs and shapes of cardboard cut outs. The best method I've found is to cut out small square, about 5mm in length. then attach the cardboard to some double sided foam tape, (this will provide the width you need). then peal the cardboard off the tape, (this should leave a thin layer of cardboard stuck to the tape. cut the tap to mach the square cardboard left on it. Now place the other adhesive side onto the end of the little plus shaped rods, with the cardboard end facing you. then just put it back together and it works like a charm. Some positives of this design is its easy to replace, the bumpers will never stick and the clicking sound when pressing the bumper can still be heard.
Thank you so much, worked wonders. Now the question just remains as to why a two foot drop can screw up a button, when a Gamecube controller can be run over by a truck and work fine.
thanks man now i know what the problem was and as i typing this, my controller now is already fix thanks to you. now i can finally block an attack from enemy, i'm playing dynasty warriors...
My new joystick (3 months old) is getting worse and worse. Thank you for this tutorial. I use mine with the farm sim and that left shoulder is needed for almost every piece of equipment in the game. Thank you for this fix. I am going to do it right now.
This is such a stupid design fault, mine fell from my couch and the bumper was broken. Fixed it with your tutorial, thank you! I used an actual playing card for best responsivness. The coating makes it more flexible.
Dude you are awesome, you save me a lot of money. I thought of breaking my joystick then watched this video. Now everything is fixed with a simple card board. OMG. Couldn't thank you enough. Keep helping. You are the best.
Thank you soo much! I thought my controller was a goner, but when I came across this video I was able to follow everything easily and fix my controller! All i can say is Thank you!
3 year old video.. WHO CARES! You sir, are a genius. You just saved one of my two favorite controllers; not mention 50 bucks. My main controller's thumbstick circuits were bugged, so I took the chipset from my 'Reach' controller (other internal plastic parts were not fixable, so I was going to toss it), which, funny enough, had the same LB problem as yours. I put the chipset into my main controller and then I came across this video. Works like new. I didn't have any tape and I'm impatient, so I went MacGyver status with a guitar pick and super glue. It clicks better than the RB now! Thank you!
One of the bumpers on mine broke last night. Going to order new parts, and use your video to guide me through fixing it. Thank you so much for this helpful video! I really didn't like the idea of buying a new controller, for money reasons as well as the fact that the controller aside from the broken bumper is fine. Felt like a waste to throw it away over one part. Now I don't have to.
THANKS SO MUCH!!! FIFA caused me to break my controller and thanks to this I got it fixed! You're a genius man and I improvised a bit and it turns out cutting up a small post it note works as well! Cheers!
Hi! I just fixed myself my bumper and automatically learnt how to open the control for exchanging the thumbsticks for new ones! Thank you very much! Greetings from Brazil =)
I've bought this new controller less than 6 months ago and have put fewer than 30 hours of game time on it. ALREADY it has a left button issue. Mine is clicking normally, but it's not responding in the game. This should work. Thanks!
my controller had been having bumper problems in both bumpers. I tried opening it up, putting it back together, etc, etc, but to no avail. This worked great! Thanks! So ghetto, but it works, haha
My controller is now perfect. Both LB and RB work after doing this. LB was happy with 1 layer of cardboard. But RB needed 2 layers to "click" normally. Thanks
Dude good looking out, I have 4 controllers and out of 4 2 had this very issue, used your tutorial on the first one so far and it was a way easy fix. Thanks alot, subbed, thumb up.
Thanks for the fix help. I used double-sided tape on the button and put a very small piece of tape and cardboard on the circular pad of the button instead.
got me an extra year out of mine, just died now however /= the swtichbox it's self isn't registering properly due to the button inside having slide out of place... and It makes a huge click like normal but usually doesn't respond... also I used mine ALOT and got tons of use out of it and this guy helped me out to opening and leaning the assembly by learning how to disassemble it... I also than began modding it (made D-Pad better/less "Floaty") Thanks... May my xbox360 controller RIP 2012-2014
Also upon opening the controller... when I went to close it on my journey to fixing it I snapped the cable to the big motor (1 year ago) so please be gentle and watch what you are doing when reassembling. (I was watching an assembly video at a short time before giving it a shot and had that happen)
I haven't tried yet! I just found the special screwdriver you need to open the controllers....I will order it during this week and try to fix it with your guide. :)
Hi. What tape are you actually using? I know its double sided, but i would like to know the exact one you are using. Reply ASAP. Thanks and keep up the good vids.
AWESOME! Thanks, All I had to do was spend seven bucks on the kit for the screw driver. Outside of that, I did opt to take out the security head on most of the screws. I used the only thing I could think of - My drill with my smallest bit, and with a small amount of pressure, they busted right out! Excited, now that I've done it I may custom Mod my controller (Nothing in games, just apperence ;) )
You don't have to mess around with double sided tape at all. Just gently bend the switch on the PCB back into position. The problem isn't really wear-related. It usually occurs after the controller has fallen down and hit the floor with the LB or RB button. Through the impact the LB/RB button is bending the switch (visibly). Normal use shouldn't bend the switch. I fixed half a dozen of these controllers i bought used that had exactly this problem. Not one of the switches has broken off so far. You can also buy a bunch of these switches on amazon and resolder them. But in my experience they are rarely really broken. The just have to be bent back into position.
@@ItsDextrin Fundamental problem was letting the controllers fall on the shoulder buttons. So as long as you don't throw your stuff around or press the buttons like a Hulk you should be fine. My 8 controllers were all bought used and most had that problem. I repaired them an had no issues ever after.
thanks, I was already doing this a slightly different way but couldn't quite get it to work. The piece I applied was slightly too thick which you explained nicely :)
Great tutorial! This is a great fix. Do you know if the issue is the because of the white button on the board or if it is caused by the external button casing?
I have a original white controller that i got in 09 with my console and that still works like new but last year i bought the fully black one and the thumbsticks are already loose and the LB has no click to it what so ever they just dont make them like they used to also i have that reach pad snap :) great video it helped me a lot

i found a easier way i just put some aluminum tape around the white peg then used some tweezers to shape the tape to the peg works perfect your video helped me come up with that idea i used 2 small pieces of the tape on each peg
definitely helped. & saved me from spending 60 bucks over a shite problem. gotta say tho you can pop out the motherboard more easily by pushing in the joysticks.
My journey to fix this issue on both RB and LB buttons took me 2 hours. I used carboard from filter paper, a screw driver not designed for the screws, duct tape and a pair of scissors. As you can tell with the equipment I used it took a lot of patience, I ended up spilling all the other buttons on the floor when trying to get it back together and having to replace the cardboard. I no longer have rumble as I ripped them of cos they got in the way. At least I have a controller. :S
Thanks for this vid I just repaired my sons. I could not find the right size driver but luckily had small flat that fitted. I have a glue gun so glued small piece of plastic packaging to spigot seems to work fine. Cheers.
I found it easier to superglue the cardboard to the button, but great tutorial nonetheless! I've destroyed my brains and a couple controllers trying to fix this. Suddenly I find this video, and it's back to the Battlefield for me!
