Yes you do, other wise you will have different heights of paint. like the orange stripe area will have a layer of orange and a layer of black. while every where else has a layer of black. this will result in a bump on the striped area.
Hold the spray tin further away from the object you are spraying. The further away the better the finish. If you can get someone with a compressor to put the laquer on that way it will not just come of and it will look like a car paint job, nice and shinny!
I was new to taking stuff apart, but I really wanted to see what the inside of my old, non- working ps2 controller looked like, and I took it apart, and it's surprisingly easy to put back together, Xbox looks as easy, if not easier. Its really not that hard! Good luck if you decide to try it!
If you get a airbrush you don't have to worry about covering anything except for the thumb sticks if you want you can tear the rubber off but if not it will be sticky I got an airbrush for 30 dollars at hobby lobby worked great.
Okay i got some tips for you. Hang you models up when you spray paint it. Keep you can in a 45angel and hold it 50 cm away. Code it easy with spray over 2 times. Rest is up to people self with the design, but your controller would look more sharp if u painted with "Belton" with a fat cap 50 cm away in a air-tight room.
I sold a $50 Xbox 360 controller for $75 because of this. I made the background black with a dark red spider on the top. I also figured out how to customize the LED's . Thanks ;). Maybe I might sell more.
nice controller man and good choice of music at the end ffdp is frikken awesome but ive never painted anything in my life so i know nothing about it but how would i go about gettgin my controller to have a shiny finish on ti other than the matte finish
lol just think about it one more time :) how do you paint the orange parts without painting the whole controller orange and then tape it ? wanna use a little paintbrush?
I made it my self with a Brush and a Fan too Dry the paint i used the paint i use with my clay... And it made a better pattern the only part i like about the video is were you put the T on it on the next coat tomorrow ill put a J.
What does the T stand for,did u leave the controller outside to dry? I also do custom controllers, instead of leavin the controller outside to dry, iafter i paint it,i put it in a tupperware box with lid and leave it to dry for at least 2-3 days b4 i start puttin it back together.check out some of the controllers i did on my channel.
You do not paint or clear coat like that at all. You start spraying when you are off of the controller, do slow lines over and finish when you are back off of the controller.
Doesn't your hand go wet when long playing? I ask because apperance is nice, but is it practical?

What's wrong with giving yourself a little creative project? I have a broken controller (LB won't go down), so while I take it apart to fix it I'm considering giving it a new look, despite having a new controller.
um.. why not use a black controller and just paint the parts you want orange? Seems like a waste of paint and too many layers can make buttons sticky. Also why didn't you cover the ABXY button holes? Also the triggers are VERY easy to remove.
at 5:40 he fighting the urge to become werewolf.

Thank you so much for the information. I will be starting a controller painting business this summer.

My wife and I thought this tutorial was very helpful, interesting, and awesome.
I wouldn't take the risk of braking my controler

just cover the places you dont want to paint and just spraypaint it dont have to screw it open
***** why tho
i agree with entRA
NOOO I AM SO DEAD....
idk why did i make this comment T_T
sgtduckface paint = liquid like substance.... liquid substance on ellectronics = not good for the electronics.
Yeah just let the paint lea through the creases in the controller and get on the circuit board and totally destroy your controller
That was an awesome job; hard work really does pay off!!!
The most inportant part u skiped...how to put back on all of parts
Gabriel Gluhak skipped*

Sick and Tired of playing xbox with your tv screen off?
Yes you do, other wise you will have different heights of paint. like the orange stripe area will have a layer of orange and a layer of black. while every where else has a layer of black. this will result in a bump on the striped area.
that is cold but it takes waayyyy toooooo long, 10 hours is to many for me.
so uh rather pay 100 bucks for one then make ur own?
no I rather buy a new one for 20 dallars from game stop right aroun the corner, or use the ones I have now.
talking about a custom
wats the point of a custom when it does the same as all of the other controllers.
.... then why did you watch this?
Thank you for teaching me how to do this can't wait to try this 😌

Hi

i aint customizing my controller i dont wanna mess up mine

Still i aint doing it.
Stangle Then why did you look up this video?
CreeperCrusher Good point
CreeperCrusher he thought it would be easy
Hey that's great! I hope your controller turns out the way you want it to.
I was new to taking stuff apart, but I really wanted to see what the inside of my old, non- working ps2 controller looked like, and I took it apart, and it's surprisingly easy to put back together, Xbox looks as easy, if not easier. Its really not that hard! Good luck if you decide to try it!
The end product of this controller is awesome, I want my controller customized. I wonder if you can customize the controller that is already black.
If you get a airbrush you don't have to worry about covering anything except for the thumb sticks if you want you can tear the rubber off but if not it will be sticky I got an airbrush for 30 dollars at hobby lobby worked great.
No problem! I enjoyed making the video for you guys.
hey dude this was really clear and awesome thank you so much SUBsCIRIBED
i realise how much time and money this took so thank you
thank man this really helped me :)
I like to leave comments just to see people like you on here it makes my day lol
wow that is a realy good custom paint, but i am thinking of doing my own like this. so i wanted to ask if the buttons ever get stuck or sticky?
go VOLUNTEERS!!!!!!!!! Tennessee is my favorite team.
T8 or torx #8 with security hole its the screw driver or bit you need you can buy them at almost any store thats sells tools
like a 70's movie :D
Even though I wouldn't do this, it is still super cool !!!
Mee too also
I don't want to destroy my controller . I'm not expert in these kinds of works
Okay i got some tips for you.

Code it easy with spray over 2 times.
Rest is up to people self with the design, but your controller would look more sharp if u painted with "Belton" with a fat cap 50 cm away in a air-tight room.
Thanks a lot for that. I like the way you took your time and showed detail. Awesome.
this is the best video i have seen ever great job guys
Nice controller bro looking forward to seeing more of your Xbox and ps3 remote designs
ive seen that same brand of paint in a tractor supply store near me, im guessing you would recommend it since you are using it?
That is some clean taping
That controller looks sick
LOL I love Peter griffin and il proove it well every bodys heard about the bird i wanna bird bird bird bird is the word
Greatly Appreciated!!
I sold a $50 Xbox 360 controller for $75 because of this. I made the background black with a dark red spider on the top. I also figured out how to customize the LED's . Thanks ;). Maybe I might sell more.
Tip for removing the motherboard. Use an Electro-Static Discharge band. It helps to prevent shocking fragile components.
very epic song at the end my friend
That's what I thought as well!
What paint brand or kind do you use? And what kind of gloss finish? Need help thanks!
very nicely done I learned a lot about customization from you thank you.
that's cool and awesome song at the end
This is awesome!! I'm going to be doing this and selling them to people and do custom ones too!!
That came out quite nice
That's kinda easy, I learned this in an art class, just take a paint brush and kind of flick it, gives a splatter effect. Test it out on paper first.
nice controller man and good choice of music at the end ffdp is frikken awesome but ive never painted anything in my life so i know nothing about it but how would i go about gettgin my controller to have a shiny finish on ti other than the matte finish
I love this controller, what paint do you use @Tyler Filson
lol just think about it one more time :) how do you paint the orange parts without painting the whole controller orange and then tape it ? wanna use a little paintbrush?
That was sick. I think that I will be doing it.
just take aprt the controller and paint the shell and use bullet buttons (I use shot gun shells from my Mossberg 500)
Yes cause you peeled off the barcode, and before the base coat your supposed to sand it down to get rid off the they paint then you start
I made it my self with a Brush and a Fan too Dry the paint i used the paint i use with my clay...
And it made a better pattern the only part i like about the video is were you put the T on it on the next coat tomorrow ill put a J.
Five finger death punch at the end hell yeah
wet sand will make the paint last longer plus look better
WOW. That was helpful. I kinda want to do this to mine.
the song at the end is Hard to See by five finger death punch. I LOVE FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH!!
Cool stuff dude
do you need to prime before you paint? and what type of paint did you use?
Hey what type of paint did you use? I'm looking to customize my controller but I don't want the paint to screw it up. A responce would help thanks :)
8:40 like if you saw the face(guy with a mustach)
could you say uh just one more time you might hit one thousand before this video ends
What does the T stand for,did u leave the controller outside to dry? What kind of spray paint did you use? Does it matter?
i think you could use white as bottom colour and add other colors :)
I don't fanboy over her all day. Up until you said it I didn't even know her name.
that was awesome!!
im goin do that to mine right now!!
You do not paint or clear coat like that at all. You start spraying when you are off of the controller, do slow lines over and finish when you are back off of the controller.
it is possible but it would take longer if you wanted a light color on it
could you make a list of what you bought to make the custom controller
do you need to use painters tape or could you use masking tape
Doesn't your hand go wet when long playing? I ask because apperance is nice, but is it practical?
What's wrong with giving yourself a little creative project? I have a broken controller (LB won't go down), so while I take it apart to fix it I'm considering giving it a new look, despite having a new controller.
Makes sense, Looks like it was painted with one
Thanks mine came out sexy it's been 1 month and it still looks good
Requires a T9 security torx screwdriver. Easy to find and cheap at Home Depot
seems legit :P going on it right now
Yes, he did clear coat it. Please actually watch the whole video before you comment.
um.. why not use a black controller and just paint the parts you want orange? Seems like a waste of paint and too many layers can make buttons sticky. Also why didn't you cover the ABXY button holes? Also the triggers are VERY easy to remove.
If I sent you a picture of the joker could you paint him on there, or is that to much detail?
would never do it myself but very cool
i finished it in 5 hours and its perfect
Cameron
What kind of paint do I use if u did this by your self how long would this take???
My pleasure!
you should try the striker gaming grip for xbox one controllers
just a question when ur hands sweat did the paint become sticky at all
