I just recently watched an episode of Jersey Shore the other day from 2010 and every cast member blatantly made fun of a transgender woman and it was supposed to be the joke of the episode. Thankfully today most people know better and are more educated on the topic and we are more open minded as a society but that wasn't always the case and this is just an example of that
As series progressed all the girls evolved except Carrie! Miranda became more confident and learn to trust men, Samantha gave a chance to a serious relationship and learn to respect other people's choice to get married and have children and Charlotte learn that it's not about having a "Mr perfect" but a more meaningful marriage. Carrie stayed self absorbed, stubborn and stupid. And for a writer she SO ignorant about art.

I love the ending of the show - Charlotte finally gets what she deserves after all the struggles she went through (I think Harry is perfect for her), Miranda understands the meaning of her family to her (the moment when she’s bathing Steve’s mom and Magda walks by is heartbreaking) and Samantha finds herself in a situation that she probably didn’t see coming, but made her so happy. And Carrie? Carrie gets together with Big. Is it six years ago again?
Agreed. Before you take money from other people, you bust your butt to see how you can help yourself. Carrie didn’t want to sacrifice and felt entitled to someone else’s money.
What really pushed it over the edge for me was when she invited Big to Aidan's country house. She cheated on Aidan with this man and then Aidan somehow sees something in her worth forgiving and takes her back! She not only continues to be friends with the man she cheated on her current boyfriend with but she invites that man to her boyfriend's home. That's sick.That's like emotional torture. I get that they're all adults and everything but I'm an adult and I would never do that to someone and if someone did that to me I would immediately break up with them. That should have been number one.
Being an adult doesn't mean we have to forgive people for blatantly cheating, claiming to be friends with the partner in cheating and then keeping on cheating.

Samantha was always pushing her views on other people even if she was not judgemental. And she overshaded a lot and was pretty smug. So she would be grating in a long term.
Samantha is definitely the best, but it is hinted many many times that she was the most insecure of them all. Also, Sam with a married man -that she wasn't even in love with, like Carrie was- and no one blamed her for it. All the girls are great, but Carrie gets so much hate just for being the realistic flawed human (anti-)heroine.
Plus, really??? Carrie was the most judgemental? Miranda was definitely judging anyone who disagreed with her. Samantha prude shamed everyone else and especially Charlotte, and Charlotte slut-shamed Sam so many times, while Carrie defended her.
Something I never understood was how the hell Carrie was a sex columnist, she had such a childish personality, it's hard to believe she actually knew anything about sex or relationships. Carrie was one of those people that never matured with age, she had no depth, there was no character development ... she just got older. People like that become irritating.

Her childish personality is very important to the script and her character arc. It was very intentional. Even her bizarre clothes reflect that. The opening credits with her in a tutu pretty much establishes this. I think she shows some sign of growth in the movies, but only some.

Other girls go through character development, Miranda has a kid and learns that family is important, Samantha starts a serious relationship and Charlotte commits to an ugly but amazing guy and converts to judaism for him :) meanwhile Carrie is just... the same! It’s not as if there aren’t plenty of “carries” out there who are homewreckers,selfish,narcissistic bitches who somehow are still convinced they are always the good guy or the “victim” in every situation...even when they most often then not are the perpetrator or the bad guy. Most tvshows emulate real life (to a degree, and some more than others of course) not to mention their were real writers, people, who felt Carries actions were justified...because if they didn’t they would have had her ask forgiveness after her bad actions, have her show remorse and show her growth as a character. But, no, carrrie stayed the same...they felt she didn’t need growth because they meant for her to be the “perfect” main character so carry was always shown in a good light...rarely ever in the wrong. So I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the shows writers were “carries” themselves!

Samantha is a much stronger person and doesn't like people crying or making a fuss (she even won't let Smith hold her hand). Big was different - he was the love of her life and he was having Heart Surgery, which is huge! Trust me.
Another one is when Carrie had that party to celebrate her book, she persuaded Samantha to go (even though she had a chemical peel and her skin was sore), and when Sam arrived and felt confident despite her skin, Carrie was so rude to her! Just thinking that Sam would affect her image and told her to leave! 😡😡😡
And when Miranda hurt her neck and asked Carrie for help, she sent HER MALE BOYFRIEND, AIDEN (who was a sweetheart but was completely inappropriate), he found her naked in the bathroom. I felt so bad for her.
With the chemical peel moment, Sam saw the adverse reaction she had gotten not only from herself but from others while leaving the establishment, but even called and told Carrie that she couldn't attend because it would detract from the celebration being held. But NOOO Carrie pressured Sam to show up and than shamed her for showing up as she did. Tsk Carrie is an adult child that plays at being accepting and mature when she's the least mature of the friend group.
I remember a scene where Carrie met a man who seemed too good to be true. She was left alone in his apartment for some reason so she hunts for clues to something wrong about him. When he comes back he finds Carrie on the bread using cutlery to try and break in to a wooden box she found in his closet like a woman possessed. She was sure that there was a dark secret inside the box. It turned out there wasn't and that he was just really was a nice, genuine guy.
Carrie really is a stalker, she stalked Big's first wife, then Big and his mother in Church, going through that guys stuff to prove he wasn't perfect, she stalked Natasha after she left Big and again when Big died and she stalked Aiden because she wanted him back. Her behaviour is so creepy and she has no boundaries whatsoever she should come with a warning label saying toxic

A lot of viewers thought this was the case. Carrie is self-absorbed and childish: Samantha could actually give out useful sex tips: she has has sex in a sling, had sex with with older and younger men, had a sex relationship with Sonia Braga, used a strap-on and multiple dildos.

The fact that she quit her job, and left her friends for a man with more issues than Big made no sense. You do not subvert yourself for a complete stranger. It bites you back in the butt. It unraveled pretty quickly.. and then suddenly Big who is also in Paris when she and the Russian broke up, he tells her she’s the one.. she was in Abu Dhabi and ran into Aidan and he kissed her.. well they were both married. If they had shared kisses on the cheeks it could be considered a good bye between two old friends, who have obviously moved on to their prospective lives. She made situations and men out to be more than they were. You can’t force someone to be The One. Either they are or they aren’t.
And Aidan was hot.. sweet and considerate. Not many boyfriends would buy your apartment building so that you aren’t left homeless. He was too good for her.

When Carrie told Miranda about how much all her shoes cost , Miranda says "your down payment is right there". In the end of the episode Charlotte gives Carrie her wedding ring for the down payment. Go figure.

I had a friend, now ex friend, that essentially did the same to me. I went to visit her in her home country after she encouraged me to do so. She took me out on the town and then abandoned and stranded me because she "needed to get laid." Being a young woman in an entirely unfamiliar country, late at night, being told..."Don't worry...the guys that work here are nice. Just ask one of them for a ride," just after I had endured a deeply traumatizing sexual assault attack and beating was awful! I felt unsafe. She often abandoned prior plans in favor of a guy too. Our friendship was short-lived.

The worst part was what they did in Aiden in that pathetic racist pile of crap of a movie. Aiden was not the kind of person to cheat considering what Carrie did to him and how good of a person he was. This was such a psychopathic behaviour on Carrie's behalf, almost stalking already.
Can we also talk about when she wanted Big to say "I love you" and he wasn't ready so she sleeps with someone else, then he calls the next day and says it. Then she has the gall to go "I decided that anything before I love you didn't count" we all know if Big did that to her she'd call it cheating and be RAGING. There's an episode where she shrieks when it starts raining too. Like, what? It's rain! She lives in New York where rain is a somewhat frequent occurrence. It's so ridiculous to see a grown woman get so dramatic over a little bit of rain.
They were all a bit pampered in that way, remember the train journey? Every time something is not super upper class and covered in jewels they go all 'eww' like teens.. But that's why I'm a Miranda-gal, she owned up to not being all that royal.. Well Samantha too but she's a self-made mature woman, she just is what she is, while Carrie is faking it and Charlotte has internalized her background to the point of being out of touch with reality

I used to love Carrie first time watching SATC, but after a few times of rewatching it and getting older, I realised how annoying she is. She is so whiny and needy when it comes to men and inconsiderate when it comes to her friends.
Agree. I've been rewatching them again and all during the first round of dating Big I don't really see much wrong with him, but a ton wrong with her. She keeps making assumptions about how he feels or what his actions mean and she's always wrong. But they never ever explore that or point it out.... They just make it wrong of him not explaining himself before she makes her wrong assumptions. It's really terrible actually.

Big was always pretty much a what you see is what you get type of guy. He was always upfront about who he was. I first noticed her selfishness when Big had paid for them both to go on a vacation and she wanted him to tell her that she was the 'one' for him. They were still so new. She then at the very last minute did not go. No consideration that he made all of the arrangements and paid for it all. She should have accepted things the way they were at that time and they could have had a fabulous trip. I really, REALLY did not like how she treated Aiden. He was the best!!! Any single woman would want an Aiden!!
I can't let go of the fact that when Aidan tried to forgive her for cheating, he only asked for her to never see Big again and she said NO because he was in her life... It was really dumb and hypocritical when carrie judged samantha for blowing the worldwide express guy, yet carrie cheated on aidan ,and slept with big when he was married to another woman.
Another one would be when she made Charlotte’s second engagement all about herself and her break up. Now for a top ten reasons why Samantha was the best And top ten reasons why we’re all team Miranda.
Aiden was nothing but wonderful to her. He took her back after she cheated on him, he put up with her still talking to Big after they got back together, he put a lot of time and effort into fixing up her apartment, he put up with all of her drama and bullshit, he was always so open and honest about his feelings (yet she couldn't even be honest regarding her feelings about marrying him)... I could go on and on. And he was just so sweet and hardworking. He was way too good for her.

That bullsh*t bagel incident, even after Miranda confronted her and Carrie apologized saying, “I’ll never send a boyfriend to…” she goes on to say, “if I still have a boyfriend,” and accomplishes what she came here to do: talk about Aiden. Awful, terrible, just horrendous!
The day Charlotte got Married to her first husband Trey, Carrie decides to tell Aiden she's been cheating on him. Of all the months you could of told him, you wait on your bestfriend's special day to do so? It's like it made her gag to not have a day dedicated to her.
Somewhere, maybe here in the internet but some guy told me he didn't want to know! Someone only tells the person they're in a relationship that they've cheated because THEY, the cheater wants to be absolved of their guilt. He said that the partner needs to figure out how to deal with their guilt!. I believe that. I think that 98% of men cheat so I'm not one of those women who runs around who's going to be shocked I'm being cheated on. Hell, where I am there are no men so I don't have this problem. I'm not going to have some blow up with the other woman. I also feel if woman A can't keep her man coming to her bed don't blame woman B!
Navarey J I think that she just couldn't bare to keep the secret inside any longer. Have you ever held on to a secret that is so painful it's actually eating you up inside and then all of a sudden there comes a moment where you feel like you have to spit it out or you'll implode? I think that's what Carrie was feeling at that moment. No it wasn't the right time but I don't think that she told Aidan out of selfishness.

Another thing I‘d like to add is the way she treats charlotte. Yes, Charlotte was a little short sighted sometimes but after all she truly wanted the best for her friends. She just wished a differend life style for herself than the others. Carrie treated her as if she had no idea about life. But in the end, it was always carrie to screw things up. She was the one to cheat on the sweetest guy she has dated, she was the one that could not afford her apartment, because she did not know how to deal with money. Charlotte knew exactly what she wanted: a husband and children. Carrie never new what she was actually looking for. Aiden was too much of ‚the nice guy‘, Big was too afraid of commitments blah blah blah. But what bothered me the most was when Charlotte was going through her divorce and was really feeling awful and still Carrie couldn‘t talk about anything else but herself. Or when Charlotte got engaged to Harry, all Carrie could care about was the post-it break up. As if Charlotte reaching her life goal was less important...
I loved Charlotte, too. Yes, she was a bit of a Pollyanna, but in the end she wanted the best for everyone. She always saw the positive traits in people. And when she and Harry got the picture of their "baby", I cried like one!!
Exactly! Charlotte might seem like she's an airhead with a lot of fantasies but she knows exactly what she wants. When things don't work out, she breaks it off right away with guys unlike Carrie who strings them along and then hurt their feelings later.
True story. I had a friend that was exactly like this. Totally self-centered, selfish and inconsiderate. One day she even compared all of us to the sex in the city girls and she herself proudly said she was so obviously Carrie. Back then Carrie's character was thought of as the best character but now that I look at this I totally agree with my EX-friend. Yes, you are most definitely Carrie Bradshaw. EXACTLY like her.
@MorganaEly I think we were all very much younger then and all we cared about was her style and behaviour that honestly reflects teenagers, so she was an idol back then. But now in my 30's I totally hate her because I can understand all parts of her personality and actions.
And to think she was marketed as some kind of role model for teenage girls. I would almost feel sorry for the ones that took her dating advice/life seriously to model their own. The producers knew what they were doing here.
I've always hated Carrie, she's frivolous, self-centered, and I'm sure Sarah Jessica Parker must be exactly the same for all the things that Kim Catrall has told over the years about the hell she lived through because of Sarah Jessica; Sarah envied her because even though Carrie was the main character, Samantha was the favorite of the public, and she made the other actresses to ostracise her, Kim always ate alone and cried from time to time in her dressing room ...
SJP ensured that Kim Cattrall had to do loads of topless scenes, while she herself never did any. I thought that Kim had always been OK with that, that it was her choice but apparently not.

About the only thing I like about Big is his laugh. Big's actor Chris Noth has a very hearty laugh; and I wouldn't mind him doing a guest appearance on "Divorce" and share a few scenes with Sarah Jessica Parker.

I think the worst thing about her (and the best as a character) is that she trully thinks she is a good person, with flaws but with a good heart but in reality she doesn’t even realize she is not. She is overall selfish, narcissistic, vain and empty but she doesn’t take care of that, even when she knows has screwed up or hurt someone. And it’s smart and brave from the writers to portrait a main character like this because many people is like that, is human after all.

The worst was when she copped an attitude, because Charlotte didn’t offer to bail her out financially. Carrie was damn selfish going to charlottes apartment and berating her for it. I would have thrown her out and ended the friendship. Not everyone can spend $40,000 a year on shoes.. I’d love to be able to do that.. but if I had I wouldn’t beg my friends for help if my building went co-op and then making them feel bad if they didn’t help me. Plus Aidan buys her building.. and she cheats on him and is ride when her computer crashed and when his dog chews on a pair of shoes. She didn’t wear all of those shoes in every episode, and valued shoes over her man’s dog?? Beach please!!!
How about the time she forced Big into having a big wedding, after he repeatedly told her he didn't want to get married like that? The scene of her hitting him with her flowers wasn't heartbreaking for me, it made me dislike her even more.
But she had never been married before so why should she give up the wedding she wants just because he was already married twice? That was about him being selfish, not her.

The number of guests was overkill and all because she was going to be wearing a designer dress? Come on Carrie! I can see why Big had a problem with it.
I agree that she made the wedding into a spectacle despite him asking her not to.. but leaving her standing alone at the altar? Come on, thats cold man - he could’ve threatened to break the wedding off before the actual day to make his point. There would be few things more humiliating and heartbreaking than being stood up in front of all those people on what’s supposed to be a really exciting and happy day. Charlotte’s reaction was my favourite part about that scene because it reiterated how devastating that moment was for everybody; not just Carrie.
Completely agree! She wanted the grand wedding out of vanity and narcissism, despite big's plead to keep it real. To be fair they both should have communicated MUCH better and compromised on something both are happy with, but she basically slowly trapped big in this huge wedding, without considering him at all. She definitely should have talked to him after the wedding, that was also very childish. To end a whole relationship and shared life because he felt unable for a while to go through with a big wedding? Unless there is violence or fraud involved, life partners should always be able to talk things through, even if it ends in a break up.
I'll never understand people who think it's going to end well when they do not listen to their partner's needs and don't want to meet them halfway. Just as you should never propose to someone if there was a chance they'd say no, which would mean you don't know them well enough to marry them.
I will start by saying I’ve always been a huge fan of the show. It’s very hard to argue with this list because it’s all totally accurate. But I will say that the other three girls always called Carrie out when she was being a brat. I think that’s actually part of the underlying theme of the show: to have good friends who are honest with you. Samantha tells Carrie that’s she’s being judgmental about the WW Express guy; Miranda tells Carrie that she brought bull shit bagels; Charlotte tells Carrie that “it’s not my job to fix your finances.” So even though Carrie was being selfish/entitled, at least the girls were being honest with her about it.
I completely agree. If her friends had just let themselves be bullied by her constantly, then the show would've been unbearable. But instead, the show chooses to show healthy fights, where friends justly push back against friends when they're out of line, yet still unconditionally love eachother, in an authentic way because they know eachother's faults. Carrie's selfishness makes the show more loveable, in my opinion, because it gives us an imperfect heroine, and and realistic pettiness.
They didn’t call her out anywhere NEAR as much as they should’ve. Miranda should’ve slapped the taste out of Carrie’s mouth when Carrie mocked Miranda going to therapy (when Carrie herself most definitely needed therapeutic intervention for her perpetual adolescent attitudes/actions), and Carrie blabbing to Aidan about Miranda’s intention to terminate her pregnancy. She was ALWAYS judging Sam’s sexuality and sexual choices, through childish insults and puns whenever they were at the diner...meanwhile Carrie herself spent the whole shown making questionable sexual choices that Samantha NEVER judged
When she had a go at Charlotte about not offering to lend her money was one of Carries most cringeworthy moments. She really was a self absorbed, self entitled, pain in the ass 😤
Carrie is one of the most annoying and most selfish character in TV history. She really irritated me when she expected Charlotte to give her money even though she spends thousands of dollars on expensive shoes. I always rolled my eyes on how she treated Adian especially when she expected him to take her back after she had cheated on him. In one scene, she made Miranda leave so she could be alone with Adian to get back with him.
Don't forget about when she searched through that cute guys whole apartment searching for something weird about him and then getting caught because he wanted to spend time with her
Cheetah Panther I think Sarah Jessica Parker anticipated Kim to become so popular on the show. When she signed on, she was the bigger name, and Kim was known for her roles in the 80s.
The #1 should be the part with Charlotte. Carrie was the WORST here. She spent each and every dollar she earned on extremely expensive shoes, and then expects Charlotte to take responsibility for her choices. It was extremely nice of Samantha and Miranda to offer to help her, but no friend should be expected to give such an amount to a friend. Carrie behaved as if Charlotte HAD to help her. And her sentence about Charlotte not needing to work - that's none of Carrie's business.
RIGHT. I was so pissed when she attacked Charlotte when Charlotte didn't offer to help. Charlotte earned that ring ( and apartment if we really want to tell the truth) and for Carrie to expect her to offer help was mind-blowing. What truly had me wanting to slap ts out Carrie is when she told Charlotte that she didn't even have to work and Charlotte had to tell her that no one would hire her so she was volunteering. A real friend would have asked why she was volunteering in the first place if she truly knew her personality or would have already had known that.

It always bothered me when the writers had Carrie asked Charlotte, "Did you give your ring back to Trey?" A ring in contemplation of marriage, without the marriage, is to be returned to the fiance who gave it. Once a couple is married, the engagement ring belongs to the wife, no matter how long the marriage lasts. It's just such an obvious error, and cringe-worthy to hear every time!
What about when she stalked Big after she found out he takes his mom to church on Sundays? The man wasn't perfect, but he just wanted to space. Why follow him?
I never never never liked Carrie. I always found her irritating and selfish, and on reflection she is the only two-dimensional character. I mean, what major storyline does she have? Miranda struggles being a single parent (at first) and to balance her workload whilst looking after Brady, Charlotte has a miscarriage and struggles to conceive naturally for a long time and Samantha has breast cancer and is a lesbian for a bit. The so-called main character that is Carrie does not change at all throughout the 6 series and 2 films, and is the least likeable and could not be any less well rounded if she tried.
I'm not saying you have to like Carrie, but you'd be wrong to say she's the only two-dimensional character. You list life experiences that the other girls go through as though these things make them "real" characters. If you watch Mad Men, so much about what makes the characters who they are are the experiences or choices that seem mundane on paper, but actually signify a great deal. Saying that Charlotte being a single mom or Samantha being a lesbian gives them characterization is essentially saying that people have to go through big life events like plot devices on TV shows in order to be a complex person. Also, I believe the term you're looking for is "one-dimensional". "Two dimensional" means a character has depth, so I assume you were trying to say the opposite.
Hayley Sullivan I was torn between one and two dimensional. Damn you google. And I've never watched Mad Men so I can't comment. But I stand by what I said about the other three characters, the stuff they go through are stuff real people can relate to and stuff that gives them an extra layer as a character. I'm sure people can relate to Carrie with being a single woman having all these hopes and dreams, but they can't relate to writing a column or having loads of designer shoes. Miranda, in particular, changes over the series because of what she goes through which most would argue is a good thing. Carrie doesn't change, which is good and bad. But it's mostly bad because she remains the same selfish and shallow person she was in the pilot.
That’s exactly why I never liked Carrie. Didn’t like her when the series originally aired, and like her even less (if that’s possible) upon re-watchings. She has no depth to her character and no growth. You can also tell the time in the series that SJP became an Exec Producer, as Carrie became almost intolerable (Seasons 3-4)
Also when Natasha found out she said “ I thought I would be the hurt one here” WHY WOULD YOU BE HURT? You’re cheating on a great great guy aiden, cheating with a married man who you know his wife is going to get hurt. Why would you be the one hurt? You know exactly what you’re doing. That made me so mad

I never caught that line before, but it's probably because she thought she loved Big more than Natasha did. :/ She even outright said on more than one occasion what a bullshit relationship they had lol As if she'd know. I guess we could chalk it up to the writers trying to convey indirectly that she was obviously hurt by Big getting married, but: yeah. Made her come across as presumptuous and petty.

Carrie, was terrible. She wasn't a loyal friend. She was judgmental. She cheated on her love interests, she slept with Big when he was married, she lied, and she was such a victim/narcissist. Great series, highly entertaining but I wouldn't hang out with those Women.. Just saying..
Also she has terrible taste in men ... especially when she got mad at the guy who was in AA and was like “why won’t he date/kiss me” ... umm cause he’s in a program trying to better and change his life
I’m watching for the first time and saw that episode the other night. I really hated how she even thought it was ok to be friends with big after Aiden forgave her for cheating.
You obviously forgot how the episode ended with BIG and Aidan chatting away like they were old friends. Every episode has a dramatic issue, and by the end of it, the right decision/outcome/issue is always resolved with someone making the right choice and/or doing the right thing. That was basically the whole moral of the show. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how great Aidan is or if he was the better guy-he wasn't BIG. And I'm sure there are plenty of people that have similar circumstances where there's that one guy that you know is bad for you, but nobody compares to him/her.
In real life, SJP, who was worth millions, habitually would visit designers and try to get them to give her clothing for free, saying she'd provide them with exposure. I heard this from one vintage store owner.

I watched this series in my late teens/20’s. I recently watched the whole thing again, plus the movies. Totally different perspective as a 41 year-old woman. Carrie is that selfish, neurotic friend who never grew up. She was 35 when the series started, and I can’t imagine thinking/acting like her when I was that age. I viewed her as neurotic when I was young, but now I find her completely un-relatable and cringe-worthy.
She was indeed the worst. I'll never forget when Samantha announces she has cancer and a minute later Carrie turns the conversation around to talk about her relationship with whomever she was dating at the time. She was one of those "me, me, me" women treating everyone else like crap. So annoying and entitled. I loved Miranda and Samantha though. Charlotte was too much of a racist prude.
Idk about racist, but in the earlier seasons she was more class-ist. Most notably when she and the girls where getting a pedicure in the episode where Samantha dates the guy who has a "servant" I think she got better in the later seasons. Thank the writers!

And when Samantha was dating the black record producer she kind of warned her about the societal views regarding interracial dating, but I don’t think she was racist. Hell, none of them had any friends of color, though! 🤔
Just watched the whole series again. 2 things really annoyed me 1 how she treated Aidan 2 how self centred she was talking constantly about her problems, demanding attention while her friends had bigger issues e. g Miranda struggles when the baby was born and Carrie just talked about her review. Only when friends told her off, told her to stop, she finally focused on them a bit
When 6 month old Brady wouldn’t eat and Miranda was really concerned and Carrie quipped ‘maybe he’s anorexic’ did me in, if I were SJP I would have refused that line
Samantha was 100% the best character. She was kind, confident, open minded and knew exactly who she was and what she wanted
She did make a trans phobic and classist comments in the episode about trans women working outside her apartment.

Joolban Obviously that's so wrong, but that was deemed "okay" at the time. I just recently watched an episode of Jersey Shore the other day from 2010 and every cast member blatantly made fun of a transgender woman and it was supposed to be the joke of the episode. Thankfully today most people know better and are more educated on the topic and we are more open minded as a society but that wasn't always the case and this is just an example of that

As series progressed all the girls evolved except Carrie! Miranda became more confident and learn to trust men, Samantha gave a chance to a serious relationship and learn to respect other people's choice to get married and have children and Charlotte learn that it's not about having a "Mr perfect" but a more meaningful marriage. Carrie stayed self absorbed, stubborn and stupid. And for a writer she SO ignorant about art.
Exactly! I love the ending of the show - Charlotte finally gets what she deserves after all the struggles she went through (I think Harry is perfect for her), Miranda understands the meaning of her family to her (the moment when she’s bathing Steve’s mom and Magda walks by is heartbreaking) and Samantha finds herself in a situation that she probably didn’t see coming, but made her so happy.
And Carrie? Carrie gets together with Big. Is it six years ago again?

What really pushed it over the edge for me was when she invited Big to Aidan's country house. She cheated on Aidan with this man and then Aidan somehow sees something in her worth forgiving and takes her back! She not only continues to be friends with the man she cheated on her current boyfriend with but she invites that man to her boyfriend's home. That's sick.That's like emotional torture. I get that they're all adults and everything but I'm an adult and I would never do that to someone and if someone did that to me I would immediately break up with them. That should have been number one.

Her childish personality is very important to the script and her character arc. It was very intentional. Even her bizarre clothes reflect that. The opening credits with her in a tutu pretty much establishes this. I think she shows some sign of growth in the movies, but only some.

Other girls go through character development, Miranda has a kid and learns that family is important, Samantha starts a serious relationship and Charlotte commits to an ugly but amazing guy and converts to judaism for him :) meanwhile Carrie is just... the same! It’s not as if there aren’t plenty of “carries” out there who are homewreckers,selfish,narcissistic bitches who somehow are still convinced they are always the good guy or the “victim” in every situation...even when they most often then not are the perpetrator or the bad guy.
Most tvshows emulate real life (to a degree, and some more than others of course) not to mention their were real writers, people, who felt Carries actions were justified...because if they didn’t they would have had her ask forgiveness after her bad actions, have her show remorse and show her growth as a character. But, no, carrrie stayed the same...they felt she didn’t need growth because they meant for her to be the “perfect” main character so carry was always shown in a good light...rarely ever in the wrong. So I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the shows writers were “carries” themselves!
Her reaction to big when he had a minor procedure was literally ugly crying, and on hearing about Sam's cancer news she is kinda unfazed. Phony . Samantha was way more important than Big.

With the chemical peel moment, Sam saw the adverse reaction she had gotten not only from herself but from others while leaving the establishment, but even called and told Carrie that she couldn't attend because it would detract from the celebration being held. But NOOO Carrie pressured Sam to show up and than shamed her for showing up as she did. Tsk Carrie is an adult child that plays at being accepting and mature when she's the least mature of the friend group.
I remember a scene where Carrie met a man who seemed too good to be true. She was left alone in his apartment for some reason so she hunts for clues to something wrong about him. When he comes back he finds Carrie on the bread using cutlery to try and break in to a wooden box she found in his closet like a woman possessed. She was sure that there was a dark secret inside the box. It turned out there wasn't and that he was just really was a nice, genuine guy.
Carrie really is a stalker, she stalked Big's first wife, then Big and his mother in Church, going through that guys stuff to prove he wasn't perfect, she stalked Natasha after she left Big and again when Big died and she stalked Aiden because she wanted him back. Her behaviour is so creepy and she has no boundaries whatsoever she should come with a warning label saying toxic
In her twisted mind she was super sure the guy was a freak with no reason at all, and desperately looked into his things breaking his intimacy when he was kind enough to trust her by letting her stay in his room.

I hate how they made Samantha to be a “fake friend” in the new show. Samantha literally gave a Miranda a spa day and babysat her kid, never judge Carrie for cheating and she often drops everything she’s got going to attend to her friends’ needs. Samatha was always there for the 3 of them even though they were judgemental of her lifestyle.
Carrie was the selfish/self-absorbed friend who doesn’t sends her bf to help a friend in times of emergency, and expects everyone to attend to her needs and understand her side the whole time.

She took me out on the town and then abandoned and stranded me because she "needed to get laid." Being a young woman in an entirely unfamiliar country, late at night, being told..."Don't worry...the guys that work here are nice. Just ask one of them for a ride," just after I had endured a deeply traumatizing sexual assault attack and beating was awful! I felt unsafe. She often abandoned prior plans in favor of a guy too. Our friendship was short-lived.

The worst part was what they did in Aiden in that pathetic racist pile of crap of a movie. What would have been better is she sould have gone in for the kiss and he would have been like WTF. No instead the writers pulled Aiden down to her level.

Agree. I've been rewatching them again and all during the first round of dating Big I don't really see much wrong with him, but a ton wrong with her. She keeps making assumptions about how he feels or what his actions mean and she's always wrong. But they never ever explore that or point it out.... They just make it wrong of him not explaining himself before she makes her wrong assumptions. It's really terrible actually.

Big was always pretty much a what you see is what you get type of guy. He was always upfront about who he was. He never pretended to be something other than what he was, she just didn't want to accept it and wanted to try and change him. And the series reveals imo that she really doesn't truly know what she wants bc when she finally gets a man that gives her all of what she always wanted in Big, she sabotages the relationship by pushing him away and actually questioning why he was so nice to her lol smh and then cheats on him smh.

She then at the very last minute did not go. No consideration that he made all of the arrangements and paid for it all. Another thing I‘d like to add is the way she treats charlotte. Yes, Charlotte was a little short sighted sometimes but after all she truly wanted the best for her friends. She just wished a differend life style for herself than the others. Carrie treated her as if she had no idea about life. But in the end, it was always carrie to screw things up. She was the one to cheat on the sweetest guy she has dated, she was the one that could not afford her apartment, because she did not know how to deal with money. Charlotte knew exactly what she wanted: a husband and children. Carrie never new what she was actually looking for. Aiden was too much of ‚the nice guy‘, Big was too afraid of commitments blah blah blah.
But what bothered me the most was when Charlotte was going through her divorce and was really feeling awful and still Carrie couldn‘t talk about anything else but herself. Or when Charlotte got engaged to Harry, all Carrie could care about was the post-it break up. As if Charlotte reaching her life goal was less important...

I think the worst thing about her (and the best as a character) is that she trully thinks she is a good person, with flaws but with a good heart but in reality she doesn’t even realize she is not. Charlotte’s reaction was my favourite part about that scene because it reiterated how devastating that moment was for everybody; not just Carrie.
Completely agree! She wanted the grand wedding out of vanity and narcissism, despite big's plead to keep it real. To be fair they both should have communicated MUCH better and compromised on something both are happy with, but she basically slowly trapped big in this huge wedding, without considering him at all. She definitely should have talked to him after the wedding, that was also very childish. To end a whole relationship and shared life because he felt unable for a while to go through with a big wedding? Unless there is violence or fraud involved, life partners should always be able to talk things through, even if it ends in a break up.
I'll never understand people who think it's going to end well when they do not listen to their partner's needs and don't want to meet them halfway. Just as you should never propose to someone if there was a chance they'd say no, which would mean you don't know them well enough to marry them.

I will start by saying I’ve always been a huge fan of the show. It’s very hard to argue with this list because it’s all totally accurate. But I will say that the other three girls always called Carrie out when she was being a brat. I think that’s actually part of the underlying theme of the show: to have good friends who are honest with you. Samantha tells Carrie that’s she’s being judgmental about the WW Express guy; Miranda tells Carrie that she brought bull shit bagels; Charlotte tells Carrie that “it’s not my job to fix your finances.” So even though Carrie was being selfish/entitled, at least the girls were being honest with her about it.
I completely agree. If her friends had just let themselves be bullied by her constantly, then the show would've been unbearable. But instead, the show chooses to show healthy fights, where friends justly push back against friends when they're out of line, yet still unconditionally love eachother, in an authentic way because they know eachother's faults. Carrie's selfishness makes the show more loveable, in my opinion, because it gives us an imperfect heroine, and and realistic pettiness.

Miranda should’ve slapped the taste out of Carrie’s mouth when Carrie mocked Miranda going to therapy (when Carrie herself most definitely needed therapeutic intervention for her perpetual adolescent attitudes/actions), and Carrie blabbing to Aidan about Miranda’s intention to terminate her pregnancy. She was ALWAYS judging Sam’s sexuality and sexual choices, through childish insults and puns whenever they were at the diner...meanwhile Carrie herself spent the whole shown making questionable sexual choices that Samantha NEVER judged

Cheetah Panther I think Sarah Jessica Parker anticipated Kim to become so popular on the show. When she signed on, she was the bigger name, and Kim was known for her roles in the 80s.
The #1 should be the part with Charlotte. Carrie was the WORST here. She spent each and every dollar she earned on extremely expensive shoes, and then expects Charlotte to take responsibility for her choices. It was extremely nice of Samantha and Miranda to offer to help her, but no friend should be expected to give such an amount to a friend. Carrie behaved as if Charlotte HAD to help her. And her sentence about Charlotte not needing to work - that's none of Carrie's business.

A real friend would have asked why she was volunteering in the first place if she truly knew her personality or would have already had known that.

A ring in contemplation of marriage, without the marriage, is to be returned to the fiance who gave it. I never never never liked Carrie. I always found her irritating and selfish, and on reflection she is the only two-dimensional character. I mean, what major storyline does she have? Miranda struggles being a single parent (at first) and to balance her workload whilst looking after Brady, Charlotte has a miscarriage and struggles to conceive naturally for a long time and Samantha has breast cancer and is a lesbian for a bit. The so-called main character that is Carrie does not change at all throughout the 6 series and 2 films, and is the least likeable and could not be any less well rounded if she tried.
I'm not saying you have to like Carrie, but you'd be wrong to say she's the only two-dimensional character. You list life experiences that the other girls go through as though these things make them "real" characters. If you watch Mad Men, so much about what makes the characters who they are are the experiences or choices that seem mundane on paper, but actually signify a great deal. Saying that Charlotte being a single mom or Samantha being a lesbian gives them characterization is essentially saying that people have to go through big life events like plot devices on TV shows in order to be a complex person.
Also, I believe the term you're looking for is "one-dimensional". "Two dimensional" means a character has depth, so I assume you were trying to say the opposite.
Hayley Sullivan I was torn between one and two dimensional. Damn you google. And I've never watched Mad Men so I can't comment. But I stand by what I said about the other three characters, the stuff they go through are stuff real people can relate to and stuff that gives them an extra layer as a character. I'm sure people can relate to Carrie with being a single woman having all these hopes and dreams, but they can't relate to writing a column or having loads of designer shoes. Miranda, in particular, changes over the series because of what she goes through which most would argue is a good thing. Carrie doesn't change, which is good and bad. But it's mostly bad because she remains the same selfish and shallow person she was in the pilot.

That’s exactly why I never liked Carrie. Didn’t like her when the series originally aired, and like her even less (if that’s possible) upon re-watchings. She has no depth to her character and no growth. You can also tell the time in the series that SJP became an Exec Producer, as Carrie became almost intolerable (Seasons 3-4)

I never caught that line before, but it's probably because she thought she loved Big more than Natasha did. :/ She even outright said on more than one occasion what a bullshit relationship they had lol As if she'd know. I guess we could chalk it up to the writers trying to convey indirectly that she was obviously hurt by Big getting married, but: yeah. Made her come across as presumptuous and petty.
I think this is why she and Big are perfect for each other, they really deserve each other.
Carrie was such a hypocrite. She gives Samantha a lot of crap over being gullible after Richard cheats, but what about when she cheated on Aidan? She’s the only one deserving of a 2nd chance? Plus she’s upset Sam doesn’t read her column. What a narcissistic. How much does she care about the other girls’ jobs??? Ugh Then she tells Burger her & Aidan didn’t hurt each other enough ‘the first time’. WHAT?

Carrie, was terrible. She wasn't a loyal friend. She was judgmental. She cheated on her love interests, she slept with Big when he was married, she lied, and she was such a victim/narcissist.
Great series, highly entertaining but I wouldn't hang out with those Women..

I always thought this was one of the worst things Carrie ever did. In some ways it's even more humiliating than cheating.
You obviously forgot how the episode ended with BIG and Aidan chatting away like they were old friends. Every episode has a dramatic issue, and by the end of it, the right decision/outcome/issue is always resolved with someone making the right choice and/or doing the right thing. That was basically the whole moral of the show. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how great Aidan is or if he was the better guy-he wasn't BIG. And I'm sure there are plenty of people that have similar circumstances where there's that one guy that you know is bad for you, but nobody compares to him/her.
THANK YOU. Carrie was absolutely the worst. She was insufferable back then, but as time has gone by, she has become even more unbearable.
In real life, SJP, who was worth millions, habitually would visit designers and try to get them to give her clothing for free, saying she'd provide them with exposure. I heard this from one vintage store owner.

I think that’s life. Women are so blind most of the time. They don’t realize how good men they have and push them away. I think creators made it that way so that a lot of women can relate

I watched this series in my late teens/20’s. I recently watched the whole thing again, plus the movies. Totally different perspective as a 41 year-old woman. Carrie is that selfish, neurotic friend who never grew up. She was 35 when the series started, and I can’t imagine thinking/acting like her when I was that age. I viewed her as neurotic when I was young, but now I find her completely un-relatable and cringe-worthy.

She was indeed the worst. I'll never forget when Samantha announces she has cancer and a minute later Carrie turns the conversation around to talk about her relationship with whomever she was dating at the time. She was one of those "me, me, me" women treating everyone else like crap. So annoying and entitled. I loved Miranda and Samantha though. Charlotte was too much of a racist prude.

Idk about racist, but in the earlier seasons she was more class-ist. Most notably when she and the girls where getting a pedicure in the episode where Samantha dates the guy who has a "servant"

RavenDM Yes I don’t think she was racist she was a prude, yes and really uppity. She did adopt a Chinese baby. And when Samantha was dating the black record producer she kind of warned her about the societal views regarding interracial dating, but I don’t think she was racist. Hell, none of them had any friends of color, though! 🤔

Just watched the whole series again. 2 things really annoyed me
1 how she treated Aidan
2 how self centred she was talking constantly about her problems, demanding attention while her friends had bigger issues e. g Miranda struggles when the baby was born and Carrie just talked about her review. Only when friends told her off, told her to stop, she finally focused on them a bit
When 6 month old Brady wouldn’t eat and Miranda was really concerned and Carrie quipped ‘maybe he’s anorexic’ did me in, if I were SJP I would have refused that line
