Thule Backup 900 Storage Box On A Thule 973 Backpac Bike Rack On A Mazda Bongo

- Gordon the Mazda Bongo is a small campervan with not alot of storage inside especially if you like to use it as a day van as well as a camper so putting a bike rack on the back door and then a storage box onto the bike rack gives us the storage solution we desperately needed.
We have had this set up on the van for over 2 years now and has proven to be the best solution.

That's some tidy looking kit and a nice practical workaround for the space limitations faced with having a smaller camper. Looks the part when all attached too! 😊

You can get bag versions which are cheaper but not as secure, glad you enjoyed, the next video is showing how much stuff we can get in it

Just a quickie did the mot test centre mention anything about obstructing the rear reg plate due to anpr and speed cameras on motorways?
No because it doesn't obstruct the reg plate, the rack is fitted so the reg plate is always seen whether the rack is stowed or in use and so are all of the lights
Hi great video,I have just bought a second hand 973 bike rack all assembled not sure how to start to attach to bongo I have 03 aero with spoiler not got a clue where to start any help would be greatly appreciated

Great video! Do you know if the 973-18 kit are the right fittings for 1995 model bongo with a spoiler?
As far as I am aware the only thing that changed between the older model and the newer model is the front lights, grill and bumper hence why they call it a face-lift model so yes as far as I am aware the 973-18 kit should fit
This looks great and i want to do this exact setup for NC500 later in the year when possible! How would i go about fitting the Box to the 973-18, is there some fittings i need to purchase? I contacted Thule and they said it doesn't fit this bike rack and need the Towbar base but prefer the look of this setup. Any help much appreciated :)
All the brackets come with the box and it fits exactly the same way as it would on the tow bar bracket that they tried to sell you.
Its really easy to fit and is solid

That's great to hear they both fit as standard without any modifications...Baffling why they don't advertise this Thule as they said they don't fit and suggested the Towbar Easybase instead. Anyway, I will order the Thule 973 & the Backup 900 box!
With the reverse camera, i already have one fitted so wonder if that would be fine to use, and just judge the rear... lol

Hi just a quick question just but a rack and truck on the back of my bongo have you had any problems with the law ie been pulled over as don't want to get in to trouble and get a fine . Thanks 😊
Never been pulled and its been through 3 mots with the rack and box fitted

Hi good video, quick question. Does the rear door still open with the bike rack and empty box on?
We have a rear conversion and been looking at this or possibly getting a towbar bike bike rack and similar box to attach to that.
Yes it does, we use a telescopic shower curtain pole to hold the door open but yes the door opens no problem as long as the box is fairly empty
We are having out pop top replaced with a high top in the next few weeks so the back box will be up for sale complete with stickers 👍
