Love the game and definitely had a nerd out moment when unboxing my copy, something I have not had for a while. It has top notch components, I especially like the UV printing on the tiles which you usually only see on box cover art, and found that since it had such a deep story you want to keep playing to see what happens next.
@@HistoricalConflict yes but that game is from SFG. (They really dont make great game that capture or streamline the video game feeling as well as other board game that couldnt afford the IP)
The app you mentioned has actually been out for a while now. At least it is on ios. I've had it on my iPad for some time and it's pretty good. I am not huge on the anime style of the game but I've played it quite a bit and it doesn't really do anything poorly. The best thing is character customization. The minis aren't really very good though. Not very detailed at all.
Wife and I hated Gloomhaven. For some reason the rules felt overwhelming and we just could not get into it. That said, we LOVE Kingdom Death Monster and Too Many Bones. Both games with more rules and technically more complex/heavy. Loving the theme and bits of story provided made the rules overhead melt away with those, but could not conquer GH. We love everything about this game, but still worry about the rules being too much. Right now in for $1 while we decide, but we are hoping this might end up being our equivalent to a KDM dungeon crawl (since KDM is not a dungeon crawl) with more story.
Thanks for the review! The anime style and 'roll some dice' for combat are both major turn-offs for me. So even though the campaign stuff and the sheer amount of stuff you get in the box definately looks exciting this is quite a hard pass for me.
After watching many reviews lately, due the recent kickstarter, I've realised this game isn't for me. In fact, I'm now more inclined to pick up Gloomhaven.
@@christophe_o Combat and story. From what I've heard, the combat in Gloomhaven is a lot more tactical and thinky. If I'm going to jump into a long campaign game I want my outcomes to be based more on my skill rather than some dice rolls. The heavy narrative focus is also a turn off. I enjoy a good book, but to have to "play" the book doesn't sound fun for me. Last but not least is the cost of it all. High entry fee for Act 1 alone
I have to ask, since I hear so many people use the expression "as of late". Just what do you think it adds to a statement or conversation over "lately/recently" or for instance "as of now" vs. "so far". Usually I hear it from radio or television personalities and it's difficult to ask them this question. Please don't take it personally, I simply find it to be excess verbiage. I can't think of a single instance where as of actually increases clarity. It's a phrase representing a temporal element that is implicit in the primary word and hence unnecessary.
Looks like an amazing game, but! (and I thought I’d never say this) it’s just too much. To much for solo and friends won’t sit through more than 3 plays before they’d want to move on.
The KS just went live and is going nuts. Very excited for this game.

Damn, you got me at monster hunter. It's why I love kingdom death. It's basically monster hunter the board game.
