People are talking shit about the new VR stuff on the channel but I don't care if it's a review, video essay, VR stuff, whatever, so long as George is making good content I'm happy, and this is both an interesting and informative video, so I'm happy.
Yeah, it's gonna be years before I can afford to get a VR headset and good enough pc, but George makes anything interesting. Some of my favourite videos of his are ones about games I've never played and know little about.
It's probably because VR is on the way out again and he's talking like a shill. Just because you believe something is the future of gaming doesn't make it so. VR is a niche product that will always be a niche product mistakenly marketed toward a mainstream audience.
mariokarter13 psvr just had 7 new games released this week: the door, blind , honor and duty d-day (made by one dude dev team), transference (ubisoft and spectravision collab), downward spiral, trickster vr, and unearth mars 2. Its got more on the way (tripwire stealth game, beat saber psvr, tetris effect, ace combats vr mode, and many more). Psvr has 300+ games strong and vive and occlus has around 300+ as well on the steam store. It is niche, it is small. But its growing slowly and progressively each day. i dont see vr dying out. Because its already on its 4th attempt (virtual boy, late 90’s vr tech with 3d glasses for movies, 2009 stereoscopic vr with early superhyper cube, and early occulus gitters). what i do see happening is the tech getting better and thus the older models price going down and allowing for this to get more mainstream.
@@mariokarter13 if you truly think VR is on the way out for good you are being foolish. Know what else was a VERY niche product for many years? Video games themselves and now they are the highest grossing entertainment product on the planet.
Just a heads up to the guys that haven't used a PSVR yet and complaining... If you look at Bunnyhop's video and think it looks crappy, the thing is Flat screen (TV/monitor) cannot replicate the VR environment very well, in VR this crappy looking video suddenly become one the best thing that ever happen in gaming. The barrier to entry is kinda steep I know, like 299USD for PSVR, but if you ever have the opportunity to try this new gaming tech please try it, and enter a NEW Frontier.
I played it for 3 hours and think it sucks. Seriously it's the most overhyped thing ever, if they make a genuine groundbreaking experience I'll care but a stock standard fps game isn't blowing any minds.
GreedAndSelfishness A lot folk here don't seem to feel the same way. I don't mind the content, I'm not too big into VR but unsubscribing because he made two videos in a row about VR seems a bit much. (Update to an old comment: btw since I've tried VR for myself and you know what I totally get why George was so interested in this. It's one of those things you need to try to truly understand)
So George makes 2 VR focused videos this month and people act like this is all his channel has been for a long time. It's only been a month since he did the Monster Hunter World video people. Maybe you guys should open your minds a bit and not instantly dismiss any video about VR because it's VR, I don't have a VR headset and currently don't really want to get one but that doesn't mean this video wasn't interesting.
Dude, you should get one, on sale they're only $200, if you have either PS4, and if you're an avid gamer, it's a must buy in my opinion, if you want to wait and get one for $150 it can't be too far off, and then you will have tons of content for that bargain price. Just please, stay open to it, you won't be dissapointed, it's the future.
This video does an excellent job of explaining how while it may not seem like a big change to simply put an FPS in VR, in reality, it opens up a LOT of gameplay options that are just impossible in a traditional FPS (short of creating specific animations). One moment that comes in my mind is when I was playing Fallout 4 VR. In the traditional version of the game, you can only throw grenades from the same direction and always with the same force. If say, you were standing on a ledge directly above a group of enemies that you wanted to blow up, your best option would be aim the grenade at a wall and hope it bounces back to land close to the enemies, as simply aiming down would either result in you falling off the ledge or throwing the grenade into the floor and blowing yourself up. In VR? You stand near the ledge, extend your arm out over the ledge, then let go of the grenade.
Things like that are really great about VR, especially when combined with motion controls. Now you can have true dual wielding, pointing your two guns in two different entry points simultaneously when you hear enemies outside (although there's no dual wielding in Firewall, just to be clear); glancing over your shoulder to monior where your allies are moving while covering the rear of your squad; being able to naturally control the direction of your blind-fire... I could go on all day about it. It's the greatest innovation in gaming since the invention of 3D graphics, it's only just gotten started and I'm already completely hooked.
Aw man, the moment I jumped into Serious Sam VR for the first time and realized I could shoot in two different directions while looking in a different direction? It was like starring in an Equilibrium sequel!
im very much looking forward to the future of this game. Or if not this game the next game that wants to continue the tactical team based shooter in VR.
I have played this game since day 1 and followed the devs closely, the future looks bright and it seems they are gonna support this game for a long time to keep the playerbase active. This game right here is PSVR system seller nr 1 right now
I feel like instead of being a new way of playing games VR is going to be a parallel thing, while traditional videogames will keep being made. Tv didn't kill radio, it just evolved to being mostly music or podcasts. While vr seems fun, I still feel like people simply love sitting in a comfortable position and enjoy a game. Hell, people build arcade sticks because they like to play like it was the 90s.
ErrigoG Yeah, it's a new medium that sits aside. That being said, I can see a lot of people in the future playing both VR games and then non-VR games with a VR headset through virtual screens.
VR is by far my preferred way to play in general, but it adds more to some kinds of games than others. VR is basically the new 3D graphics. Likely to become dominant over time, but not suited to every type of game there is. I couldn't see something like, say, Sunless Sea being improved by VR.
You have to meet VR half way initially. After a bit of solid play you’ll soon be smooth/fast turning/locomoting for hours on end in fallout 4 VR with no negative effects. When you get to that place then you can really appreciate what a massive leap VR is in every respect to flat gaming.
I guess we should cancel all motor sports then as some people might feel left out because they get car sick. That's their problem if they get motion sick & need to get over it themselves instead of bitching that other people are enjoying something.
Rigs, Catch and Release, Ultrawing, Firewall, Farpoint, and Thumper are must haves. I don’t recommend any horror game. Not until they stop putting jump scares in.
TH-cam got me into following VR, and i finally bought it last year. Specifically what sold me was watching the H3VR devlogs. Seeing the interaction possible in that game, mixed with the charisma and quick work by the dev every week got me to seriously consider buying one. Ended up getting the rift, and havn't regretted it. What got me into knowing VR was being worked on was Tested. PSVR is a great vr platform for people without gaming PCs. Glad it exists. A much better first VR experience than mobile VR.
I've had PSVR for a year now and I can't get enough. Best advice I can give if you get it is to check out dedicated PSVR channels like PSVR Without Parole, Polish Paul VR and The VR Grid to help you find the awesome games and avoid the shovelware.
I kind of love this game but I wish it had more modes, like Deathmatch and not being able to shoot through glass or break vases and stuff really lowers the immersion experience. I would still recommend it though. At least it's not another wave shooter.
VR will prove that the smg is the most versatile primary for close quarters combat. I learned this from playing airsoft with my friends. I do love the wiggly arm models that one can only get in a VR game.
Fantastic review. Didn't hold back and gave the Bad points as well as the good. I hope the Devs support this game and iron out the problems because the gameplay is very satisfying. I find myself thinking about playing even when I'm not playing, I am completely hooked for now.
Solid review, very in depth! Sucks your getting some hate from people who haven't played VR and hate what they don't understand. I'm pretty ignorant to other tubers, but I like the cut of your jib! Subbed!
I dont think he is the biggest. Its just all still new to him so he is still in the honeymoon phase of it. He has a large audience though so if by biggest you meant that then its possible.
I find it fascinating just how angry a lot of anti-VR posters are. It's one thing not to like VR, it's not for everybody, but it's another to be so deliberately and totally writing it off as another gimmick on par with the Wii's wagglan. It really is a worthwhile experience, if currently a rather expensive one.
Yeah it's been this way for a while and I find it so interesting. They're so invested in this new gameplay opportunity not working out for what seems like no logical reason.
You said the same shit about 3DTV and look how far that got you. The "3DTV is a gimmick" people were right, and the "VR is a gimmick" people are right.
But 3D TV is a gimmick that's been going around since the 50's and not many people seriously thought it was going anywhere. If you don't understand how fundamentally different an HMD with spatially tracked controllers is as a way to see and interact with games there's no helping you. 3DTV or even stuff like 3D monitors for games are just an inconvenient way to watch or play normal content. VR is a completely different format for it, it's not just 'normal games on your face' or 'a shooter but with waggling'.
I can't really see me getting a VR set, but its still pretty fun listening to you talking about it. Also love the System Shock music in the background.
The problem of communicating reactions of the VR world to the player (for example that something is in the way of you hands / gun as described by George) is something I think VR needs to solve before that many genres and gameplay modes can be fully accepted by the masses. I know there are solutions in development that adds forces to your hands but I am talking a bit cheaper, easier and maybe larger scale than that. But I do not find it impossible to do. In fact, while writing this I actually got an idea of how you maybe could solve it (though I am not sure it is a good idea). If anything I am quite happy that we are starting to enter an era of experimentation for both VR and AR. Lets solve this.
Just got my FWZH bundle yesterday, finally, after a long exhausting day I jumped on for bot matches "to just try it for five minutes since its 1am and I'm tired." 2hrs 40mins later and I had to force myself to stop. It literally woke me up and it was awesome. Some of the best graphics on psvr and the gameplay is very addicting, not to mention the sense of immersion with the map details. Get it, I should have when it first came out.
System Shock 1 music fits so well with this tactical shooter talk : after all, even though SS1 was an FPS/RPG/ImmersiveSim it also featured a "lean" system and required to carefully peek corners !
Remember a few years back when the news was saying GTA or whatever was teaching kids to be soldiers. I feel like games like this will make that sentiment a reality.
Picked this up over xmas and am having a blast. Even though most connections are to players overseas, given the slow pace you can still get the drop on enemies and the lag appears minimal. Looking forward to the future of VR shooters if this is anything to go by. Highly recommended.
Matt check out Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Beat Saber, and Sprint Vector. They’re some of the most fun vr games (Astro Bot and Beat Saber aren’t out yet on PSVR but I’ve tried them)
I got a PSVR about a month ago and I can only seem to play for about 30 minutes until my head hurts from the headset. It's comfortable in the beginning but after a while it just feels tight and painful no matter what. It sucks because I want to experience all of RE7 in VR but playing in 30 minute chunks isn't really feasible in that game.
George, I really love how you're slowly being consumed by the world of VR. Same thing gradually happened to me as well Also, please try playing on the Oculus or Vive sometime. If you love PSVR, you will absolutely love the Oculus or Vive even more. I started on the PSVR and moved to the Oculus, and it was so worth it.
I've had my PSVR for a year and I'm still hooked. And George is right, Firewall is great. Playing a flatscreen FPS, while it still can be fun, feels like being in a full (upper) body cast now by comparison, unable to move your head away from where your gun is pointing. VR, in conjunction with the much-maligned motion controls, also enables far more possibilities- like in Killing Floor Incursion where you can have true dual wielding, pointing a gun in each (opposite) direction simultaneously while waiting for surrounding enemies to come at you through opposite doors. Or Skyrim where you can can mimic exact combat movements such as holding your shield up with one hand and stabbing at your opponent with the other. Or in Firewall or Farpoint, where you peek around corners and aim down sights not by pressing a button, but by naturally performing those actions. People that say such game-changing possibilities are a gimmick are often the same people who are desperate to get hold of increasingly minor graphical upgrades for the same kinds of games they've been playing for years, as if that is some kind of substantial change. I can understand people not liking VR if they get motion sickness, but I think a lot of people are just stuck in their ways.
Just FYI, the tactics you mentioned about going around corners has been in every tactical shooter in existence well before it was in VR. People hugging corners have always died easily in most shooters.
Really enjoy all the VR content in this channel, George really seem passionate about it, and I'd rather hear him talk about something he loves rather than something he finds eeh
First time viewer, watched all your Witcher videos and stumbled across this video. Firewall is one of my favorite games of this generation and it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Awesome videos man.
As someone who hasn't enjoyed shooters since cod4 modern warfare on the 360, this actually looks really fun and like a cool experience, is consider getting a VR to play this if I had enough space for it. Thanks George!
I just bought my first VR headset (Oculus Rift...got a pretty much open box but unused one for $300 on ebay). The appeal only lasted 2 days. I don't really have enough space for the full room experiences and the resolution is too low for any serious gaming like skyrim. I can say I have triple monitors, 3D vision, VR, and a 3D projector in my bedroom but basically never use any of these devices when I play my games. It's fun to try all the things and fun to show people but they don't get a lot of use.
Accuracy158 2 days? Did you play Lone Echo / Echo VR, Moss, Sprint Vector, Beat Saber, Pavlov, Robo Recall, Brass Tactics etc? I find it hard to believe you've tried much content in only two days. And Lone Echo / Echo VR is literally a must.
Typically people buy triple monitors for racing/flying games, where a person can spend hundreds of hours on just one game, and where they are way better than just one screen. Do you not play them at all? In that case why buy them in the first place?
I've been waiting for a reliable review on this from someone I can trust. It looks like a game I could really get into, but multiplayer populations die on console on regular games, let alone VR games, so I've been wary about it.
Thank you for showing us what it looks like to play with the toy gun and set up. I wanted see what it looks like when the person is playing. What is better to play the controller or gun thing.
Anytime I see a Delta Force reference the video automatically gets a thumbs up. DF was my first online game, and I played that competitively for a solid 5 years!
Really interesting and informative video. I enjoyed this one George, especially since right now most of the internet seems to be talking about Spider-man PS4.
I have honestly really enjoyed the VR videos you've been putting out. I just find it interesting because it's out of my price range and my living situation doesn't really support it
This review is so fucking amazing. I realise you might've been paid for it but yeah, you got me on all three of the PSVR + Aim controller + Firewall purchases. I still get too much of motion sickness playing it though after roughly 10 hours of using VR but it's getting better. Skyrim with move controllers is a nice stepping stone to faster VR first person games for anyone in the same situation as me. Once again great review, thanks!
I’ve borrowed a VR headset and even though it’s initially fun, I personally found it hard to use for any extended length of time. Most of the games are a bit yuk with the exception of some of the higher line titles. Plus they’re are not that many titles to go at in the VR library on PS4. The whole thing is a great concept, but at the same time still needs work on most games. However, I’m still left wondering if this is just more of a fad like 3D TV & 360 cameras which sales seemed to have declined in. Rather than a full time playable option. Personally, I’m still waiting for the hollow room in Star Trek to arrive, but since I’m now 51, I don’t think I’ll ever see that. Great video and I enjoyed watching it, even at my old age.
I'm glad George is making alot of videos on VR. It's hard to find a good channel that talks in-depth about this sort of stuff without screaming HELLO HOWS IT GOING EVERYBODY at you at the beginning of every video, then inserting embarrassing jokes and video roleplay.
Gotta respect Sony for giving the VR attention it deserves. George too. One gotta be insane to not be into VR.

I dont think he is the biggest. Its just all still new to him so he is still in the honeymoon phase of it. He has a large audience though so if by biggest you meant that then its possible.
Have you not tried VR? It's fucking amazing.
I don’t think he’s the biggest, per sé... but he’s the one I’ve the most respect for. I love VR, and to me, George also loving it just validated that.
VNN also does plenty of VR stuff, though that's almost contingent from reporting about Valve.
You need to get a VR headset and play it, all of you, be in PSVR or Oculus. Don't miss out on the future.
This isn't Superbutterbuns!
She dropped a big 50 min video last week, but like George, has periods of too long silence.
you know , when you think about it we really are in a MGS2 future .
"vr training indistinguishable from the real thing"
Bryan Gutierrez we’ll hydraulic feedback to simulate actual recoil though. On anything higher caliber than 5.56
This is very distinguishable from real life.
It's definitely getting there. VR is certainly a massive step forward, and Firewall is a great tactical shooter.
Stingos because they’re children/un-employed. That or they can’t budget their money for 6 months and buy it on sale.
You said the same shit about 3DTV and look how far that got you. The "3DTV is a gimmick" people were right, and the "VR is a gimmick" people are right.
Big ole straw man
But 3D TV is a gimmick that's been going around since the 50's and not many people seriously thought it was going anywhere.
This is officially the only shooter in existence that interests me
I can't really see me getting a VR set, but its still pretty fun listening to you talking about it.
It makes me so happy that one of my favorite youtubers enjoys one of my favorite console peripherals
I haven't seen a single one of your videos in my notification box for the last few months, despite having clicked the bell. Nice.
Very cool of you to highlight the really great parts of VR, I love it. Totally agree with most (if not everything) you've said here.
I'm so glad you're taking the time to review these VR games, very ahead of the game George.
This is one of the best Reviews of a VR games I’ve ever seen. Excellent work
80 people are still butthurt about VR
I really would rather have Firewall allow you to use the motion controllers or the gun becuase I'd more enjoy reloading the gun on my own
This is the one game that would make me purchase a VR setup. Looks really awesome and fun.
Good job covering firewall and VR, you got a new subscriber!!!
this is the first time VR looks really fun to me.
Matt check out Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Beat Saber, and Sprint Vector. They’re some of the most fun vr games (Astro Bot and Beat Saber aren’t out yet on PSVR but I’ve tried them)
A bit childish, but very charming, Rec Room is awesome.
Keep pulling through. Eventually you will grow more resistant to it in my experience.
Not a VR guy myself but I'm glad it's getting better than tech-demos
George, I really love how you're slowly being consumed by the world of VR. Same thing gradually happened to me as well
Also, please try playing on the Oculus or Vive sometime. If you love PSVR, you will absolutely love the Oculus or Vive even more. I started on the PSVR and moved to the Oculus, and it was so worth it.
From what I hear it may *ruin* PSVR for him lol
I heard the blade runner theme, instant 1000 points George
1:16 Look at the left, thats an amazing detail for an old game.
Just FYI, the tactics you mentioned about going around corners has been in every tactical shooter in existence well before it was in VR.
People hugging corners have always died easily in most shooters.
VR really is an amazing experience. You can't blame him. Since I've been playing VR it has consumed the majority of all my gaming time.
This looks better than ONWARD.
Wait, is that... System Shock music?!
Great review for a super awesome game, right on point with pretty much everything 👍 Subbed
Saw you on the Totalbiscuit podcast! Love VR got a subscriber to watch some new VR stuff!
As someone who hasn't enjoyed shooters since cod4 modern warfare on the 360, this actually looks really fun and like a cool experience, is consider getting a VR to play this if I had enough space for it. Thanks George!
Loving the use of Vangelis' end credit music for Blade Runner.
This is one of the best reviews I've seen, on any subject.
Until the day comes I get to try Firewall, Onward will still be my sole VR love in life (next to Beat Saber of course).
Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers, Albert Wesker... BIOHAZARD.
George seems to really like the Systemshock soundtrack. Find it hard to disagree.
I can't wait to get a new PC that can actually let me use a VR headset.
Accuracy158 you’re talking out of your ass. Vr is here to stay and it’s ready despite what your 8k 100inch monitor 500fps havin ass says
@@Accuracy158 There is no way you even tried the gems of VR in two days. Thats your problem. You actually have to play fun games.
I've been waiting for a reliable review on this from someone I can trust. It looks like a game I could really get into, but multiplayer populations die on console on regular games, let alone VR games, so I've been wary about it.
I appreciate the use of System Shock's OST.
love the blade runner music you've got going on in the background
Just picked this game up and it's highly addictive. Worth every penny
Dreams PS4 will have a beta this year! It has PSVR support too! Please try it out!
Thank you for showing us what it looks like to play with the toy gun and set up. I wanted see what it looks like when the person is playing. What is better to play the controller or gun thing.
System Shock and Biohazard music... Wow, what a selection :3
That shotgun montage tho, damn that is a sexy sounding gun.
Hey... Makes me want to go back on ONWARD. I've been playing quite alot of BF1 recently, but it's true that I VRFPS is just on another level
Great review you hit on all the highs and lows i feel Firewall will have cult status
Strong Phantasy Star IV vibes with the intro music
I'm glad George is making alot of videos on VR. It's hard to find a good channel that talks in-depth about this sort of stuff without screaming HELLO HOWS IT GOING EVERYBODY at you at the beginning of every video, then inserting embarrassing jokes and video roleplay.
