I like your report very much....I spent maybe 30 years in broadcasting, am and FM radio here in California and vicinity it is falling on hard time, for instance I spent 4 years at KVEN, we had a staff of maybe 40 people, sales, engineering...anyway 2 years ago. the station went off the air, too expensive to run. Most big stations are full automated now and use almost no staff, worked on making my voice the best it could be, not too important these days...This week in California the minimum wage went up to $20.00 per hour...a real job killer
Thank you for sharing your experience, it's inspiring to hear from someone with such a rich background in broadcasting. It's unfortunate to see the changes in the industry, but your dedication to making your voice the best it can be is admirable and timeless.
Some expansion before compression helps with this. Basically a noise gate that only adds a few dB of attenuation rather than closing. Set the gate just above the volume of your breaths and reduce by like 3-9dB and it'll de-emphasize your breaths pretty well even after compression. You'll still need good technique & be mindful of your breathing cuz if you are loud enough to punch through the expansion then it'll get scooped up by the compressor and be heard loudly, but practice good technique and your breaths will fade pretty deep into the background.
Experiment with different levels and remember to keep it balanced and clear for your listeners. Check some of the other videos about this on my channel.
Not that this electronic setup doesn’t still apply, but since you’re now a full supporter of RCP2 (and it’s overall cheaper than purchasing all those other items), you might want to make some adjustment to this video and add a suggestion to your new RCP2 setup.
Hey, question regarding microphone placement. Would you recommend having the microphone sitting a little higher than your head? I find I can put a more confident, assertive and deeper voice when my throat is extended by looking slightly up, and I find the opposite when it's lower than my head. Is there any line of thinking around this? Cheers.
I'm not a vocal coach but I can say it's best to record with the throat fully open and having the microphone before mouth level with constirct the throat as you move your neck down so that's best avoided.
Thank you for the update to Audacity presets. I think the problem is that people were having with the presets was that they already had a Gate on original voice, before using any of the presets? But thinking about it the presets normalize original anyway. I have had no problem at all.
@@AudioInsider_YT I think you could consider donating the mikes to someone who needs them and then take your anger out on something else! But I get you - different strokes for different folks!
@@MikeRussell Would you say the sound quality of your set up is much better than the Rodecaster? I am not being nosey, just trying to learn and understand.
Love from Bangladesh. Sir, im in problem... when im recording mouth clicking sound appearing in my audio.... what can i do????? Please sir give me some solution or link about this problem where i can got idea to solve this problem..... i got idea how to remove it bt i want not to appear in my audio while im recrding....
WOW, I find the James Mulvany videos very hard to watch, once you get past all the things he invented, founded, sponsored, backed of getting into other peoples clips and telling me what I should be doing, I do not like his style, or the eye contact into camera, and settled on you for tutorials, but low and behold here he is as well. so I will have to miss this one out.
LOL - You start with a Mic that cost about 1.000 pounds. And then all the analog high end gear. It should be around 10.000 pounds all together. Clear and crisp - not in my headset =) But thanks for the tips.

Thank you. I am a volunteer presenter on community radio in Australia. This was very helpful.
I'm so glad you found the video helpful for your community radio work in Australia! Keep up the fantastic volunteer presenting!
🥳🥳🥳
Best of luck with your radio voices everyone!
I'd be curious to know everyone's broadcasting setup - drop me a reply and let me know! 👇
Just sent the tascam mixcast 4 back to the shop because it was faulty. Thinking about the rodecaster pro 2 instead.
You've got to be kidding, I'm literally editing my radio demo as this uploaded😲
👌
Radioking?
Great video. Proven formula. How do you sound incredible on air? Just watch this, listen and learn.

Stellar x2 vintage condenser is amazing for radio.
👍
Your voice is Amazing
Thank you
Good advice! Compressing the dynamic range makes breaths sound very excessive. I prefer enveloping.
In order to do this you need to have good mic technique to be able to control your breaths

So nice also when I Hear Your Voice So can you explain to us about how we can talk mix with music in radio

Do you happen to have a personal preference between Audacity and Adobe Audition?
My DAW of choice is Adobe Audition 👍

What settings would you recommend for Adobe Audition?
The principals shown here would extend across DAWs

Brilliant! So much more useful than watching microphones being destroyed! :-)
🤣
But destroying microphones can be fun. Especially if you've had a bad week!

Will these tips work with DaVinci Resolve 18 in Fairlight? Also is there any tips for removing breathing sounds? Great advice.
You can possibly use a noise gate to remove breathing sounds but that depends on how harsh they are.
Sir, if i use declicker to reduce mouth click then is there any chance to reduce audio quality?????
No, using a declicker to reduce mouth clicks should not significantly affect audio quality if applied properly.
Your pop filter needs to be slightly away from the mic for it to work as you can still hear plosives on this video.
Thank you for the feedback! I'll adjust the placement of the pop filter for better sound quality in my future videos.
What are the advantages of your setup over a Rodemaster Pro?
It’s a matter of personal preference. The Rodecaster Pro 2 steps things up significantly from the Rodecaster Pro as well.
@@MikeRussell Would you say the sound quality of your set up is much better than the Rodecaster? I am not being nosey, just trying to learn and understand.
I am happy with my setup but I would also be happy to use a Rodecaster Pro away from my studio.
Just to also add, this is something I am going to talk about in one of the up coming videos. Rodecaster Pro 2 is a game changer for sure!
@@MikeRussell which in your opinion is te better mixer of podcasting, livestreaming, etc: the Tascam Model 12 or the soundtrack signature
A lot of time I see Normalization after these steps. You don't recommend that?
A lot of pro radio software will normalise the audio on import

To reduce mouth clicks, stay hydrated, practice tongue placement, and use a noise gate or de-clicker in post.
