    I've just been watching a lot of these vids, and I have to point out that s someone brand new to voice-over with zero experience, I like when you say some of the stuff that is obvious to you and other voice-overs, but to me I've never heard of. It helps the information stick with me instead of only hearing it once.

    SO important to treat the space you're in! I spent years back in the day obsessing over tech, ignoring the fact the room I was in was just terrible!

    Peter, you are a legend. This was a very comprehensive and informative video. You are always budget conscious without compromising quality. I used you before when you were doing voiceovers on fiverr (not sure if you are still there) but you know your stuff and I'm glad this video popped up in my feed.

    I have a small walk in closet. Slowly treating it. ;) I bought a used windows box for $300, I've been building my studio for 2 years, but the voice over thing just started this year so I just bought that little windows laptop, a new Macky Mic (I first bought a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 mic, but I like the Macky better. I'm going to buy a Neumen this year), I've got a quarter of the closet treated and I bought a little table from someone on FB Marketplace. I have about $1200 invested now. I'll be investing $500 more in the first quarter of 2021.
    I don't have clothes in my recording room. I've been buying treatment material for 6 months. I have almost $500 in just treatment.

    Thank you. I moved my studio and was stuck when I could not locate a good spot in my apartment to record. Will implement the closet tip and look into the travel booth. I have used Audacity in the past, shifted to Garage Band with H4N. I use a pop filter. Thanks to your tip, I will add the floor mounted set up . Thanks again. I will say also that I used my cell phone recorder for a long time before investing in my H4N. Though very fun and exciting, this can be pricey, but your suggestions make that point very well: purchase preowned.

    I took two of Peter's courses on Udemy. He's giving you amazing insights and, of course, he's someone you can listen to for hours. It's a shame that we don't have many people like him in Germany. Somehow it seems like we Germans are not really willing to share our knowledge. Even though we have a huge speaker community, especially for the dubbing industry. So I'm even more glad I've heard about Peter's masterclasses :) Keep it up and thanks!

    I would be careful about describing this as an "often quite easy" profession. After years of professional experience, of course you'll be quite good at it and the things come easy at times. But a sustainable and profitable VO career is a ton of work not only in the audio department but in terms of business planning, marketing, vocal performance, acting and many other things. The gear doesn't have to be expensive but the intro significantly downplays the challenges in this line of work. Just want to say that I love the content on this channel, but if you hope to get into VO for quick bucks and easy living I think you're gonna be disappointed. Just ask any pro VO and they'll agree to what I wrote (unless they're selling something).

    • @Voiceovermasterclass
      @Voiceovermasterclass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Point taken, and we'd hate to think we are giving the impression that this is a quick and easy way of making money. My passion behind creating these videos and the courses on www.Voiceovermasterclass.com is that over the years, I have seen so many really creative and talented voice artists not progress as much as they should simply through doing "the wrong things" in either the auditions stage, the recording or editing stage or dealing with clients. There really are far, far more opportunities to get voice work these days than when I started in the 70's, and once you find a group of regular clients who like your voice and like working with you, you won't look back. Some say it's all a matter of luck, but I remember the old adage "The harder I work, the luckier I get"! Thanks again for your contribution and opinion. Peter

      You are absolutely right. I was forced into this full time in June. It’s been hard, but I’m finally making enough money to cover my bills, but damn it’s been work to get consistent income coming in. And I’m by no means gifted with a great voice, but patience, insistency, and dedication has started to pay off. Most of those who sell classes are the ones who are making a killing off of people coming into this thinking it’s easy money. Heck, I fell for that myself in the first month, but honestly I didn’t learn shit other than the lesson always lead to paying for another tutorial outside of the lesson 🤦🏽‍♂️

    What do you mean by "artifacts"?

    • @ChrisDevon
      @ChrisDevon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Artifacts are usually unwanted sounds/noises in the recording - background noise, a knock at the door from the Amazon guy, the neighbour's lawnmower, or accidentally hitting your desk while recording. (All of these happened to me this week haha)

    • @edwardevjen4741
      @edwardevjen4741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's not what an artifact is. An artifact is a mistake computer automation makes. When you apply a noise reduction, it will--at times--mistake your voice for noise and mangle it a bit.
