Or in the words of Aaron Dembski-Bowden said once on the warseer forum's years ago. The writer who created Sahaal in the book left Black Library on bad terms and really didn't say if people could use Sahaal. So ABD created Sevatar since he couldn't get permission and didn't want to go behind another writer's back
Interesting to know! Thank you for sharing.
I don't see why permission would be required. Black Library should own Sahaal since the book was either a work for hire, which automatically grants copyright to BL, or was a work by an independent contractor and their contract would have said BL owns the copyright. All assuming that BL aren't total morons whose contracts don't say they own the copyright.
@@headlibrarian1996 It's more of giving proper respect to another author. ABD could of had used Sahaal. It isn't really a legal issue. Part of it not being able to ask how a character work and make sure it was a faithful representation.
I love that ADB gave the author the respect he did, but I'm happier still that through that action, we got Sevetar, the pinnacle of Astartes in the 30th millenium, had he been in any loyal legion, the Heresy would have died before it reached Terra.
If I remember correctly ADB tried to contact the author for the character and how to use him. He never got a response and Sahaal was reduced to a brief reference in the book when Talos went after M'shen
Lords of the Night was the first Warhammer novel I ever read. Zso Sahaal is my favourite Chaos aligned/renegade character. Thanks for doing a video on him.
KageMinowara you should read the 3 books about Talos
He became my favourite after reading them
First book too. Around 15 years ago at least that book came out.
It was my second Warhammer book, but my favorite Warhammer book. It even places about 4th or 5th in the total amount of books I've read. Which, not to brag, I have read a LOT of books
it was a great book. Loved reading about a Night Lord because that is the chaos marine chapter i play in 40K tabletop
Its possible that if Zso Sahaal becomes fused with the soul of Konrad Curze and he's reunified the Night Lords, he'll seek out the services of Fabius Bile to work on genetically enhancing his body so that his strength and abilities are an equivalent to that of a Primarch. I mean after all if your becoming the new Night Haunter you gotta look the part right?
bloodwolfkoji I strongly agree with this theory.
Curze wanted to die, theres absolutely no reason he'd want to come back or be 'fused' with someone else's soul.
FerreusVir It’s just a theory as stated in the video. Curze’s crown may have had a soul stone in it when he died, and his soul may have fused with it.
Also Curze’s point was already proven, so coming back to start a new reign of terror wouldn’t be out of character for the Night Haunter. The guy might even enjoy the prospect of adding further salt to his father’s wounded Imperium.
@@FerreusVir wasn’t curze just obsessed with his visions coming true and when he had one of his death at the hand of an assassin he didn’t even try to stop them? I don’t think Conrad’s soul would want to die.
A interesting theory but sadly too late as it is very clear in the third book of the night lords trilogy that Decimus is uniting the legion as we speak
If this guy is really as smart as all that, I don’t think he’d directly deal with his daemon prince rival himself, but would get someone else to do it for him. Say he gathered a small group of followers and disguised them to look like his rival’s warband, then they go off and attack the Imperium or something to get them attacking this other guy. Then while the Imperium are dealing with the daemon prince’s army Zahaal could stab him in the back or something and take command of the rival’s remaining forces before ordering a retreat. He takes out his rival, grows his own warband and gives the Imperium a bloody nose in the process. That seems like an efficient way to settle an old grudge and still make a figurative profit off of it.
Or just trade for a tesseract labyrinth from some klepto magpies. That is what the Grey Knights use for the nasty daemons.
But still what makes you think that the demon's warband does not compromise of astartes who hate zahaal and would rather die than serve him
Common sense - any marine who could take down a demon prince, no matter what circumstances he used to do it, definitely seems like someone you don’t want to have to fight against
I'm guessing Zho would become a Blackshield and go deep agent. Like what Light Yagami did.
Bob MiLaplace Was that a joke? Because last I checked, that’s the main character of Death Note, not 40k.
"Little more than psychopaths"
You mean *more* psychotic than the Night Lords were 10,000 years ago?
Before they were sadistic murderers, now they are madmen who can't admit they are loyal to the Chaos Gods.
Just a little more psychotic...
the 30k night lord's brutality was done deliberately in pursuit of a greater goal, the betterment of mankind. as opposed to their current actions which are largely done simply for personal amusement.
@@commie4164 Without Curze to philosophically guide them, now they just do it for the lulz.
even curze was just doing it for the lulz in the end. he built up this idea in his head that what he was doing was necessary, that it was the only way to achieve the ideal of the imperium. but then the other primarchs and the emperor began getting the same results, but without his methods. and like the rest of the primarchs and the emperor he was too much of a salty bitch to just admit that he was wrong.
Sounds like GW plans to use Zso Sahaal as a way to reunify the Nightlords. I consider this to be the most likely outcome since GW has already done this with The Thousand Sons and Death Guard.
Zeno Blues But what about Talos’ “son” the true prophet of the Night Lords? Last that was heard of him; he was gathering a warband to destroy an Eldar Craftworld responsible for so many failed Balck Crusades in one way or another.
I hope not. Us of the 8th legion don't get along well
@Indigo Rodent I don't think he was insane, but he was very obviously delusional. even when presented with the proof at the end of the book when he sees his corrupt brothers. ultimately I felt that this was symbolic of the legion and Curze as a whole. there's that tiny glimmer of focus and hope of what could have been.
I can totally see a night lords game where you play Zso Sahaal possessed by Konrad and all this plays out like how celebrimbor helps the ranger in Shadow of war, except you drop onto planets and use planning and infiltration to take on warbands, either the imperium or other night lords/choas. Unlock night lord skills as you progress

@@smokejaguar986 I know it's an idea many people have had before but I don't see why with 40k they can't give us a lore update and a game in one, get black library to collab with monolith or rocksteady
I think that the primarch of the Night Lords died a regretful loyalist.
A regretful traitor. He hated the emperor even more than he hated himself
I agree.
I don't think so... His throne room was carpeted in living flesh, crafted by dark powers. He was psychotic, but a regretful loyalist - I don't think so...

I can listen and learn about The Night Lords & Curz all day. One of the most interesting Peimarchs and Chapters.
“ I am a son of the sunless world, and Eighth Legion to my core. “
If Night Haunter's soul is indeed in the crown, would Curze truly wish harm upon his father, as he would be freed of his split personality which so dominated his actions throughout the Crusades and the Horus Heresy. Would it be possible for a resurrected Curze actually wish for the Emperor's forgiveness. He could then attempt to rebuild his legion, if such an action would be allowed. Thanks for sharing this video with us. Your channel is greatly appreciated.
I just got done reading this book a few days ago and enjoyed every minute of it. Good work on this video good sir!
I'm gonna say this outright, Zso Sahaal is by far my favorite Night Lord, hes awesome.
Lord of the Night got a lot of hate from losers who came along after the Horus Heresy books were out, but it's always had a special place in my heart as one of the first (& only) to truly explore the heresy astartes & their traitor primarchs.
So he's basically 40K Red Hood? (seeing as his primarch is fiction's most horrific version of Batman)
What could have happened? Well....TO THE NIGHT LORD MOBILE!
*Batman Transition*
Are the 68th Deltic Lions blessed by Isha? It could explain the regiments strong resistance to Nurgles Plagues, and if so why?
Have you done a video on the lifespan of an Astartes? If not could be a cool topic
I agree
We know that Space Marines can live at least a thousand years in the case of Blood Angels like Commander Dante, but I think its been implied that while space marines do age, no one really knows how long they can live for, since no Astartes has ever lived long enough to die of old age.
If they activate the sleepy gland, they can nap for 10k years. A grey night did it in one of the books
weldonwin Dante is like 1300 during the devastation of Baal story. He also, is written as feeling like 60 year + person as we would consider it. He feels old
So did a Dark Angel from the Horus Heresy in the novel Eye of Terror
Of course at this point we have zero canonical knowledge of Sevatar's actual death. The last time we see him is back in a cell on The Invincible Reason after the events of ADB's "The Long Night."
He was believed dead by the Eighth during the Scouring, but did he somehow rejoin the Night Lords and die in battle on Terra?
Nobody knows yet.
hmmm....but ive read the novel 'Emperor's gift' by ADB. Theres a scene where the main character, the grey knight Hyperion visited the tombs of fallen grey knight and there he visited the tomb of Grand Master Khyron, the first grand master of the 8th brotherhood. It is inscribed at the plinth and statue of the grand master that implies he is once a traitor (I cant remember the exact words) and that the statue was fashioned as if the grandmaster is leaning casually on his spear.
so we know that Jago Sevatar is :-
1. Last seen alive on his last appearances.
2. He is a psyker. Both he himself and curze is aware of this.
3.Really hates daemons and the possessed marines and everything warpy...
4. He uses a spear as a weapon.
I think sometimes during the heresy he becomes one of the grey knights, takes a new name and later becomes grand master khyron. But its just my speculation though
@@ebbios ADB gets really upset if you mention it too. Either he is mad his Easter Egg was so transparent, or he was serious when he says he really doesn't like Sevatar despite having invented him.
So Sevatar either A., went from a detention cell aboard the Reason to Titan in Imperial authority and died as a Grey Knight.
B. Escaped the Reason and fought and possibly died with the Eighth on Terra.
Or C. Before he died, Alan Bligh allegedly said Sevatar and some Loyalist Night Lords ended up in the XIX-based genetic stew that is the Carcharodons.
Since the Invincible Reason doesn't make it back to Terra until after the battle, I don't see B happening. C is too pat, though I believe it obvious after "Outer Dark" that there is XII and VIII blood in the Carcharodon mix.
Scooping up Sevatar sounds like something Malcador would do, which means it has to be before Malcador's death on the Throne at the climax of the Battle.
But only ADB can answer that question and he gets grumpy if you bring it up.
@@ebbios The new video talks about this now.
@@TyyTheFlyGuy yeah... I have watched it. Thanks
The Night Lords were a dysfunctional mess long before the Horus Heresy. How they haven't gone extinct yet is beyond me.
Huron and his Red Corsairs have the capability to graft a replacement arm. Not for free though.
Maybe he is hanging out with Decimus, the new Prophet of First Claw, or Decimus finds him
Ave Dominus Nox!! Thank you so much Inquisitor for this video! In my humble opinion I do not believe Sevetar is dead. I vaguely recall the possibility of him disappearing and going on to possibly found or have some influence on the Carcharodon chapter. I can't say for certain, but much like his successor he realized what the Night lords were becoming and didn't fit Konrads vision. The night lord book series was amazing and you sir have revitalized my interest in it!! Keep up the great work! Death to the false emperor!!!!!
GW loves loose ends, he seems like a string in need of a story.
Ave Dominus Nox
12:11-12:19 Also known as "But HEY! It's just a Theory! A 40K Theory!"
I never thought I'd see this, made my week :)
Fantastic film. Very well put together. Bravo.
I honestly think that the soul of The Night Haunter could still be in that Crown. My real question is WHY would those Eldar want his soul? Is it even possible...for the Crown of The Night Haunter to act as a Soulstone? Maybe those Eldar wanted to use it to construct a...Wraithlord of The Night?
I suspect it's similar in reasoning to when the Eldar tried to kill Angron. They could see the horrible actions he would commit in the future and try to prevent them by any means necessary.
But if he was already dead then what was the problem? IF they had the opportunity to turn a dangerous enemy into a weapon they could use against Chaos, which The Night Haunter himself HATED, they should take it. The crown already was a Soulstone.
They want it because it's (pprobably )a soulstone. Because that shit belongs to the eldar and they are possessive like that.
The Eldar would have to pretty stupid to resort to putting the soul of a psychotic *mass* *murderer* inside a giant weapons platform.
Said giant weapon could also have a remote detonated explosive on its body. That way the Eldar could destroy him if he tried to kill him and I bet the crown can't survive an explosion that could take down a Wraithlord. Once it was destroyed then The Night Haunter's soul would go to the Warp, where the Chaos Gods would fight over him.
Hold on.
A SWORD?
This needs to be fleshed out. Aside from his fists, the only weapons that Konrad uses are his master crafted power claws Mercy and Forgiveness, and a pile of grenades when he attacked Macragge. I'm pretty sure he's never even fired a gun in the lore.
Who is to say his claws don't have some kind of ammo to shoot out.
GW forgot about him like they forgot about every other character who wasn't an Ultramarine
Hunt well sons of the VIIIth Legion, and die as you lived- In Midnight Clad! AVE DOMINUS NOX!
If Sahaal thinks he can get anywhere near Terra without the Custodians catching wind of it, he's crazier than his Primarch. On the other hand, and speaking of that Primarch, Curze's presence in the Corona Nox might be just the contrived plot device we need to get the Night Haunter into 40K. Some crazy ceremony to turn Sahaal into Curze via the Corona? Boom, instant model sales!
Lord of the Night was the first WH40K book that I owned and read. You can imagine how confused I was.
I wish Simon Spurrier would write more 40k stories. I asked him at a signing once but unfortunately he doesn't have any plans; mostly just concentrating on his comics. Shame really as Fire Warrior and Lord of The Night are two of my favourite 40k books.
I think we need to acknowledge the fact that a kid fooled this guy and pulled a switch blade on him. I mean the balls that kid has or had I guess must have been pretty heavy.

@@40KTheories ahhh OK then, I was thinking of doing a Robocop in Necromunda fanfic with a navigatior named dave & all the other characters have trouble pronouncing his name lol
They are all easy to pronounce if you pronounce it "40k" style.

I wonder where the name zso comes from....
I don't know about you my friend but I sure do miss that game Warhammer chaos gate. It was my first introduction to the Space Marines. I would sure love to see it make a comeback. Could you just imagine, the graphics with our day technology?
Sevatar will never die.
Besides, the 8th legion hates itself as well as everyone else.
No Nightlord would ever follow Zso Sahaal. After the assassin M'Shen was killed by Talos, Zso Sahaal secured the crown but fled the fight. He abandoned the Atramentar at the hands of the enemy. It wasn't because he was Terran born. To prove that, Malek of the Atramentar (one of the most respected members of the Atramentar) was Terran born and not of Nostramo. It was because he couldn't live up to the reputation of Sevatar AND he abandoned the Legion for the crown and was considered a coward for abandoning the Legion for his own desires. Source: Nightlord omnibus. When Talos and Mercutian were talking with their navigator, Octavia about the first captain.
Since they messed up Magnus' chance of possibly redeeming himself recently they can at least give us konrad soul redeeming itself to the imperium.
Wait, didn't Zho Sahaal go to Abaddon with the Corona Nox in hand to lay claim to command of his Legion? Could have sworn that was mentioned in one of the novels. Abaddon laughed at him as he was one of several to do so with a artifact in hand.
Not from what I could find.
If you can find a source/passage etc then please feel free to share it.
Is in the Soul Hunter novel when Abaddon is talking to Talos. Its also shown at the bottom of his page on Lexicanum.
What the quote in Soul Hunter actually refers to is the following said by Talos, *NOT* Abaddon:
“Many claim to be the Night Haunter’s heir. The Talonmaster (Zso Sahaal) has vanished, but his claim was no stronger than any other, even with his possession of one of our symbolic relics. Too many other leaders have similar items once carried by our father. Captain Acerbus leads the largest coalition of companies, but again, his insistence reeks of desperation and need. No true claimant has come forth, as you did with your Legion. Our father’s throne sits empty.”
It is never stated in Soul Hunter that Sahaal went to Abaddon.
@@40KTheories It has been some time since I read the novel so I must have misremembered it then.
Can someone tell me what those two round things that are always attached to Space Marines backpack?
Exhaust ports
there is some debate on this but the two most likely answers are exhaust ports or stabalizing thrusters for low/zero gravity locations(defenetly not powerfull enough to act as jetpacks)
Kitten will defeat him with a single shot. With the screaming warpbolter.
I hope the Night Haunter may be reborn one day....
HE IS COMING FOR YOU ALL!!!! Sahaal 41020!! Make Night Lords Great Again!!
I *STILL* say he needs to get off his ass and put on the Corona Nox, preferably while the Gargoyles theme song plays.
Interesting characters in for a 40K no I knows what happened to them anyway nice Theory I like to learn more about
Could this be the rebirth of Conrad through possessing Sahaal and then we get a new demon prince Conrad miniature?
one of his brothers is rumored to be the sire of the "Carcharodons" any ways glad to know of this guy
It wasn't an execution it was a suicide. No mere human could possibly kill a primarch otherwise.
Now how does Krieg Acerbus' force stack up against the gathering of the Eighth Legion at which Decimus revealed himself as the Prophet of the Legion?
Zso Sahaal would seek Fabius Bile to repair his arm, however seeing Fabius tinkering with new Primaris gene seed, he would probably want to be augmented to with Primaris genes , acknowledging the advantages and benefits he and those that would follow him would gain, they would gain confidence in Zso Sahaal as the chosen by Conrad Curze , and exact vengeance on the daemon prince, and unite all other Nightlords to rally under his rule, and as new Primaris Nightlords develop a plan to destroy the false Emperor.
...what he revered once and the new senses
If Curz is taking over Sahaal i think he would do so subtly. That is if Curze is capable of something like that. Slowly and carefully manipulating him. Perhaps making Sahaal think that the actions he is taking is his own ideas, his own choices. Then again wouldn't Curz just tell Sahaal to go to Bily and get him out of the Cronus Nox.
What is your thoughts on the meaning of Soul Hunter
Which book did you get this info from?
All Night Lords hate all other Night Lords. lol. I am of the belief that Zso was groomed to be Konrad's new body though. Zso has fanatical devotion to his Legion Father and would happily lay down his life in service to the Night Haunter. So there is no way Kreig has killed him. Not if the Night Haunter's mind and soul have taken him over.
2:53 yes
I wanted to say he discovered the charcharodans and returned to the imperium but then you told us he wants to attack terra

Question: Where the frick can I find Lord of the Night?! I want to read that novel soooo bad.
You can purchase the Ebook version from Black Library's website
"Krieg Acerbus". A bit like "Bitter War". Interesting.
What novel is this from?
I don't understand why the Aeldari would want some symbolical crown belonging to an insane, sadistic Primarch? It's not like the crown was powerful psychic artifact or anything.
The gem in the crown is a soul stone possibly containing Kurze's soul itself.
Can you do a video on the Ashen Claws and/or Death Eagles.
I've already done one on the Death Eagles :)

Why did the eldar want the crown if it’s not a soul stone???

Is the Emperor of Mankind in fact an AI construct from The Dark Age of Technology???
Well according to the older lore thats defanateley not true is he is for sure a psychic reincarnation of all of old earths shamans, but i would take that with a grain of salt because its that very same old lore that states that nurgle awoke during the black plauge on earth.
We know thats CAN NOT be true in the new lore because nurgle is the oldest chaos god and has been around as long as sentient things have been scared of death. So if some parts of the older lore are (unofficially) redacted then i see no reason why big E cant have his orgins changed a bit.
True.
But I was presenting a Theory to Remliez.
In the Dark Age of Technology, Humanity began worshiping Science as God, the answer to any problem Humanity could encounter. That being the mindset what individual would be considered trust-worthy enough to lead the whole of Humanity? How *could* such a leader be chosen from Humanity, since as Human history has shown, humans are distrustful of each other when it comes to authority and leadership. On top of that how could any human fulfill, even attempt, to confirm Humanity's expectation of such a leader and yet *still* be human with human physical and psychological limitations?
As previously stated, the mindset that Science is/was Humanity's answer to *EVERY* problem, Humanity did what seemed natural, they went to Science to create the 'perfect' leader. One who would base all "it's" decisions on Science, Logic and Reason; which to an AI would be instinctual, instead of abstract, subjective emotions like a human. The leader would have an intact, uncorrupted STC computer for a brain, and a Nano-tech body which would have none of the human physical limitations; Nano-tech constructs were common place in the Dark Age of Tech, as stated in the book Hunt for Voldorius, where a squad of Raven Guard encountered what they assumed was a Daemon Prince and called it the *Bloodtide, when in fact it was a human Nano-tech construct that had been corrupted by Chaos since it's creation in the Dark Age of Tech.
*wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bloodtide
This theory, would explain why the Emperor based the Imperial Truth off of logic, reason and science. His peerless intellect, encyclopedic knowledge of human behavior and history, seemingly inscrutable character. It would also be why the Emperor in despite of all his psychic abilities is immune from the Warp's corrupting influence since the technology involved was created for a singular purpose and programmed to be instinctually resistant to such 'corrupting' effects. On top of these, it would also explain why the Emperor as the ability to "heal" mechanical construct's simply by touching them, as stated in the opening of the book *Mechanicum. And how the Emperor is "supposedly" able to shape-shift as he demonstrated in the story **The Last Church, a short story in the book Tales of Heresy
*wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Mechanicum_(Novel)
**wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Tales_of_Heresy_(Anthology)#The_Last_Church
In the book Vengeful Spirit, there is a character, *Alivia Sureka who was a Perpetual who knew the Emperor, *before* he was known as the Emperor. According to Sureka, the man who would be the Emperor is described as being just a man with no really warp-presence. It was after the Emperor had entered in and returned from a stable Warp-portal on the Knight-world of Molech, that he became the over-powering psychic being that we know him now to be.
*wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Alivia_Sureka
This interaction occurred when Horus had learned about the Emperor's visit to Molech, and invaded the planet. It was through the same portal on Molech that Horus became equal to the Emperor in power.
If the Emperor truly was a reincarnation of the Shamans of Old Earth's ancient times, why would he needed to go to a portal to get those powers, if he already had them before the Age of Strife *and* the Dark Age of Tech?
Theoretically, if the Emperor was an AI construct he certainly would physical and mental capabilities far in excess of any human, but though he did know about human behavior, he didn't (understand) human emotion having not been made to do so. Because of this lack of understanding he didn't have psychic abilities to combat the sudden, rapid emergence of Psykers, during the latter days of the Dark Age of Tech.
Kyber Cat there isn’t any other new lore source stating that Nurgle cane first, so Khorne is still the first Chaos god to awaken
You already know what I'm about to say.
@meaturama jokes on you. You're now a transvestite.
Is it just me that respects how stealthy yet psychopathic the Night Lords are but still thinks the other Traitor Legions are more interesting? Like the Word Bearers are the original traitors, the Black Legion is the biggest and most powerful Traitor Legion, the Iron Warriors are the opposite number of the Imperial Fists, the Alpha Legion are the proper stealth units of Chaos, they can stir up an uprising on a planet and no one will ever know they're behind it, the World Eaters have the best battle cry ever "blood for the blood god", the Emperor's Children have the ever thirsting hunger for perfection and are psychopaths too, the Thousand Sons are literally spirits in armour, the Death Guard just don't die like you can shoot them over and over and they'll just laugh it off, the Night Lords are kinda just the best parts of the Alpha Legion and World Eaters put together
My favorite legion!
Well he could be attempting to rebuild a new version of the Night Lords, using his own gene seed.
Dammit man not all night lords are Cersei!
Though in all seriousness, he has progenoid glands that haven't yet been corrupted by chaos. All he needs to do is kidnap a renegade apocathery, and a few initiates. Most Astarte only take 50 years before one of their progenoids can be harvested.
They were fairly desperate for the Corona, don’t know why considering it’s practically impossible not to get it nowadays
Zso Sahaal? Never heard of her.
What if the Night Lords didn't like Zho because he was liked by Curze.

Why do the Nightlords still decorate their armour with the bat wings and shit if they despise Chaos and hardly any of them fall to it ?
Because the bat wings have always been their symbol?Where did you get Bats=Chaos?
Raven Strategist All I’m saying is the number of bat wings, skulls, spikes and other deathly symbols adorning their armour has increased an awful lot since the heresy. Quite a lot for a legion which supposedly spurns the influence of chaos. But maybe they just got collectively really into modification since they gained independence 🤷♂️
