Well, that one can actually be explained, since a number of Guardian Spears were given to the Death Watch, to be the weapon and symbol of office for the Watch Masters. A Blood Raven could have been seconded to the Death Watch and worked his way to the rank of Watch Master, then later dies on campaign. There is defiantly no need to look further, especially since many inquisitors get lost among the chapters gifts, which they also contribute with their own gifts before getting lost.

@@Psykomancer I personally believe it it was only applied to the Thousand Sons on Prospero. I stand by my thoughts that someone at GW (with an Ultramarine bias) tried to say "no fun allowed" like with how Ollinus Pius was retconned in to a space marine, then retconned into a custode. And entirely defeating the original point that even a normal weak human would stand up to the greatest terror in the galaxy and still go down fighting even if they knew they were going to lose :) All hail Saint Ollinus Pius
The Blood Ravens also have Forge Breaker, the very weapon that was forged by the Primarch of The Emperor's Children, Fulgrim. Take that with what you will. If they really are the sons of Magnus The Red then they must be able to collect Warp artifacts at a much safer way and not get tainted as much.
Legend has it that mentioning the Blood Ravens amongst a penal legion will evoke a sense of great anger and shame from the legionaries, as they cannot help but feel inadequate, knowing full well that they will never be able to steal as many items as the Blood Ravens, try as they might.
To reflect their collection, Blood Ravens should get a special rule in a future Index Astartes, similar to how the Crimson Fists have just gotten some special rules of their own. Something along the lines of: "Gifts" of "Loyalty" Strategem Blood Ravens are renowned for their collection of artifacts "gifted" to them from other organizations. 1 CP - A Blood Raven character may take a relic normally restricted to another Imperial faction. 2 CP - A Blood Raven character may take a relic normally restricted to a Xenos or Chaos faction. Use this strategem before the first battle round. May only be used once per battle.

Going by the theory that the Blood Ravens are descended from the Corvidae Cult, the Golden Armor of the Custodes could have been gifted to the Corvidae by order of the Emperor before his internment on the Golden Throne as a formal apology for his mistreatment of their Gene Sire. Also, assuming that the Blood Ravens are indeed descended from Magnus, they may have inherited their Primarch's love of knowledge and as such place an extremely high value on historical artifacts. As such, maybe the reason that they refuse to return recovered artifacts to their rightful owners is out of a belief that by losing the artifacts, the original owners have proven that they cannot be trusted with them.
Space marine of another chapter visiting a Blood Raven barge: By the Emperor, you are really devout. You even have an exact replica of the Golden Throne in your shrine! Blood Raven Librarian: Yeah, its really an impressive, uh... replica.
while I wouldnt put it past the Ravens to poking around other factions for info outright stealing from brother marines for no reason other then its a cool item seems a bit much(taking from a corpse on a battlefield and taking a item from a Chapters Base from under there nose is to different things), going with the theory of the Blood Ravens being in truth Thousand Sons Marines it could be said the Custodian Armor was recovered after the battle of Terra by Sons who weren't warped with there Primarch, and hoped that returning such a armor would show there loyalty in a time when everything was in question. However the purging of there records occurred and in all the chaos with the aftermath left in storage until its reason for being there in the first place forgotten and it becoming another item of awe in there armory. As for the other notable gear like the hammer it could be a number of reasons, my thought is that since its a hammer made by Dorn himself giving the Loyalist Sons the hammer as a means to show support from the Sons of Dorn which would be why over the long period of time the Sons of Dorn never went for the hammer, they knew Dorn gave it to them but much like the Ravens own history the reasons why were erased. I love the idea Blood Ravens are Thousand Sons and hope one day to see how that actually plays out with them and Magnus.
One possibility for the custodes armor could be to have recovered it from old battlefields from the heresy era. With their focus on knowledge, it's also possible that the initial reason for the Blood Ravens was essentially to have them recover such things off battlefields and actively seeking out such places to recover things of importance and bring them back.
Wouldn't Custodes armor be worth the lives of thousands of humans to the imperium? Let alone the functional value, it bears all the names of its owner, which the custodes value to an insane degree. I find it difficult to believe they just "found" it laying in the dirt.
@@xeonespydonum4995 Not necessarily the dirt, but there were a few that died in the hands of the traitor legions during the heresy and possibly in other locations. Finding them would be an adventure in and of their own. Possibly even recovered from some chaos warbands in battles over the centuries. Hell, some of the things they have might have been in exchange for even more valuable things recovered. Basically, rather than being wanna be Carmen Sandiegos, they're more of Indiana Jones
Just a few days ago I finished Chaos Rising for the first time and... actually this seems very likely all things considered. It is the only game I can think of where their creed of "Knowledge is Power" and the gene-seed of Magnus were quite visible. Especially when the "Judgement of Carrion" Space Hulk entered the sector and despite being in the middle of a Chaos Uprising, the Blood Ravens dropped everything to retrieve as many artifacts as possible. In all the other games they are acting like the most generic Space Marine chapter ever, but Chaos Rising somehow manages to highlight their oddities. Too bad DoWIII is such a failure... it would have been nice to see have the chapter's lore fleshed out some more. Heck, the adventures of the Force Commander and Thaddeus with their crusade of penitence could have been great. They have just the right kind of outside perspective to have a story created around them that confronts them with what they are.
"How could you lose your lasgun trooper! We are the lucky few to ever fight alongside a chapter of space marines, as esteemed as the Blood Ravens no less! Look out there at how the emperor's angels keep THEIR lasguns in clean and functioning condition!"
It's simple Remliez. Other chapters/Custodes "gift" their artefacts/relics to the chapter. They just provide these other "gifts" without knowing it. And who else wants to bet the Blood Raven 'gifted' themselves a couple pairs of sororitas underwear as a prank after receiving their master-crafted power-armor?
there's a picture of something similar going around: two Imperial Guardsmen taking the bra of an Imperial Guardswoman, then the bra of a Sister of Battle, and then the bra from a female Blood Raven Space Marine. the Guardsmen get beat up afterward every time, the next beating much worse than the last.
If they do steal artifacts, perhaps they left no survivors to write the reports. Additionally, it's possible that chaos forces had stolen the artifacts and the blood ravens stole them back, and then didn't return them to the original owner.
This video has an incredible unrivaled power. I have never gotten through more than it's first three minutes, during which I fall asleep... Every single time! The Blood Ravens were "gifted" Primaris Space Marine Geneseeds by Lord Guilliman Himself. This is the reason why Gabriel Angelos can do madshit at DOW3
they have a felinid idol. according to captain hairgel, she was gifted to them... now she sings taunime songs everyday to calm their souls after combat.
1. In the Werewolf RPG, there was a spirit gift called "Talons of the Magpie." If you had this power, and stole something, the owner would forget he owned it. Perhaps the high number of psykers in the Blood Ravens included a few with some similar ability, which explains why other factions have not gone on a roaring rampage. Hammer of Dorn?!? You bet the Fists would be knocking on their door if they knew... or remembered. 2. They are forgeries. Perhaps they were acquired through a silver-tongued Rogue Trader who could spin a tall tale. Perhaps their logistics arm were prone to creative embellishment. Perhaps the chapter master, by receiving "gifts" from other organizations, had tangible "proof" of auspicious deeds and prodigious events, which could inspire pride in the ranks.
Blood Raven: Hey! Check out our new relic! Ultramarine: Isn't that ours? See, it's got our insignia on it! Blood Raven: Ah yes, it may seem that way to the untrained eye; however if you look at it from really far away, upside down, and through a window, it looks kinda like a Raven. Ultramarine: So you're saying if I stand over here and... Wait... Where did he go? Where's my Boltgun? The Rhino's gone too...
I am not sure which is more impressive about this. That the Ultramarine was silly enough to actually go along with what the Blood Raven said, or that during the time it took the Ultramarine to do all that the the Blood Raven made off with his bolter which should have been magnetically locked to the Ultramarine's power armor, whatever "relic" he showed him, and the Rhino. A rhino for crying out loud!
I introduced Blood Ravens as allies in an RPG. First things the players did was lock their gear down. The Blood Ravens were grateful for the party's gifts later though.
Even the Custodes armour could be found and salvaged on some forgotten battlefield, or in aging derelict attached to spacehulk (and its history could be determined from its memorybank). By my understanding, the blod ravens do have quite long history of raiding spacehulks and (if possible) obtaining special or more powerfull wargeer. What puzzles me more than "how they came to HAVE their stuff", is why are they not using xeno wargeer too - especially, when there is no imperial counterpart, or if the xeno wargeer is more powerfull than standard imperial version. The spacewolfs (as some of their members, not as an organization) do use xeno wargear. Lucases the Tricsters pistol sight, and so one, to a degree, that in book Prospero Burns, the Vlka Fenryka attacks some advanced xeno species wich used adaptible shields, by hand to hand and melee, than by attacking them with weapons obtained from their fallen comrades (therefore the enemies adapted their shields against energy and particle weapons) and than attacked them with bolters en-mase. BTW, Blood ravens are almost certainly descendant chapter (or splinter of original chapter - its scout company actually) of thousand sons.
They do use xeno technology. They simply mask them as normal Imperium tech. For example Gabriel Angelos terminator armour and hammer contain powerful Eldar relics. That's how he is capable of doing backflips in it.
Well, yes an no. The Hammer was giwen by inquisitor and by my understanding it is enbeded with a shard from of defeated avatar of kaela mensha kaine. But you do not see their scouts sniping the other side of the map enemy tanks with rail rifles.@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870
BLOOD RAVENS: These artifacts are now under the possession of the Blood Ravens. MECHANICUS: But it is our you cannot take it from...... BLOOD RAVENS: Dibs MECHANICUS: Damn
Inquisition: Wait, how did You get all of those artifacts, Imperial, Xenos and Chaos alike? Blood Ravens: They fell out of a back of a Space Hulk, why? Trazyn: ...ANGELOS!
I deem it highly unlikely they are of Dorn's stock. Even amongst the chapters of Dorn that accept librarians into their ranks, there are only a few. Seeing as they have an unusual high amount of librarians I still suspect Magnus as their primarch. Sanguinius is out of the question as they do not suffer from the red thirst or black rage. And don't bring me that bullcrap that there are no successor loyalist chapters to traitor primarchs. Even half of the founding grey knights and inquisition were of traitor stock.. As for the custodes armor, they could have just found it you know. Back during the crusade these guys were everywhere. But then again, half the blood ravens turned traitor at some point, so maybe they stole it.
As you explained, the Blood Ravens likely recovered and maintained these pieces of wargear. Mindset likely going along the "better in use on the Emperors behalf, then fall into heretics grasp." An irony given the track record in Blood Raven areas. Another possibilities is going off their brief appearance in the Space Marine game, where Blood Ravens aid Ultra Marines. Indicating they earn wargear acting as a Quick-reaction force among their chapter brethren. The games text of items also says it isn't restricted to Marine Chapters, for Sisters of Battle, Inquisition and even Imperial Guard regiments likely know of the Blood Ravens.
If I remember correctly the Blood Ravens where revealed to have originated from the Thousand Sons, this is showned by their large amounts of Liberians.
I'm still wondering - is there a connection between BR and WB? Their main planets are Cyrene and Aurelia, Eliphas suggested that Blood Ravens and Word Bearers are related, and the obsession of BR, who their primate is. Who knows - I heard Knights Repenant are a chapter created by fans, so perhaps the Bloody Magpies are our loyal sons of Lorgar.
The reason why the blood ravens foundling is unknown, is because they stole it right after their ascension to space marines were complete. Before stealing the report of them stealing the founding, and stealing the report of that report being stolen, cont et infinitum.
I think I big part of the reason they wouldn't give anything back to their rightful owners is that they have to get by without forge world support, I don't remember which game it was in, but I know somewhere in DOW 1 or 2 they mention that they have to get by without a forge world to support them and as such just take whatever they can get
They're driven by an urge to acquire more than just knowledge. Terra still had oceans before they visited the place and look at it afterwards!! One of them was given an audience with the Emperor, before then he still had a face. There's no such thing as missing Primarchs, those guys are all just locked away in the Blood Raven's armory. The poor Squats had home worlds before these guys passed through that part of the galaxy.

The Blood Ravens were clearly gifted these weapons by graceful Imperial organizations Lord Remliez. Any accusations of "theft" is either just chaotic propaganda or an organization losing the records of these items being gifted. There is defiantly no need to look further, especially since many inquisitors get lost among the chapters gifts, which they also contribute with their own gifts before getting lost.

Legend has it that mentioning the Blood Ravens amongst a penal legion will evoke a sense of great anger and shame from the legionaries, as they cannot help but feel inadequate, knowing full well that they will never be able to steal as many items as the Blood Ravens, try as they might.
blood ravens relationship with the penal legion is that of the ultramarine and adeptus administratum.

Don’t bother, the bolts will also be “graciously gifted” to the chapter.
As such, maybe the reason that they refuse to return recovered artifacts to their rightful owners is out of a belief that by losing the artifacts, the original owners have proven that they cannot be trusted with them.
bravo bravo
Or they *acquired* them.

while I wouldnt put it past the Ravens to poking around other factions for info outright stealing from brother marines for no reason other then its a cool item seems a bit much(taking from a corpse on a battlefield and taking a item from a Chapters Base from under there nose is to different things), going with the theory of the Blood Ravens being in truth Thousand Sons Marines it could be said the Custodian Armor was recovered after the battle of Terra by Sons who weren't warped with there Primarch, and hoped that returning such a armor would show there loyalty in a time when everything was in question.
I love the idea Blood Ravens are Thousand Sons and hope one day to see how that actually plays out with them and Magnus.
what you talking about all the artifacts belong to the Blood Ravens they just haven't been retrieved from those who've they've been lent to
*artifacts of the blood ravens*
Wait lemme grab popcorn. This is a late Emperor's Day gift I don't wanna miss.
My idea is if they are thousand sons successors then maybe they found the armor in the ruins of prospero.

If they do steal artifacts, perhaps they left no survivors to write the reports. Additionally, it's possible that chaos forces had stolen the artifacts and the blood ravens stole them back, and then didn't return them to the original owner.

That was never officially confirmed by GW (who apparently have taken a stance in recent years to outright deny any connection between the two)
I'm still wondering - is there a connection between BR and WB? Their main planets are Cyrene and Aurelia, Eliphas suggested that Blood Ravens and Word Bearers are related, and the obsession of BR, who their primate is. Who knows - I heard Knights Repenant are a chapter created by fans, so perhaps the Bloody Magpies are our loyal sons of Lorgar.
The custodian armour could’ve been a trophy taken by heretics, reclaimed by the blood ravens?
Another good video! Thanks!
The reason why the blood ravens foundling is unknown, is because they stole it right after their ascension to space marines were complete. Before stealing the report of them stealing the founding, and stealing the report of that report being stolen, cont et infinitum.
its a lootrace between them, orks and Trazyn
