11 Volleyball Terms You Need To Know For Tryouts!

- It's that time of year, and you need to know these terms before trying out! It occurred to me that I use a ton of volleyball language, and I have yet to define it! This video will give some information on some of the terms you may hear throughout volleyball and volleyball tryouts. I am sure you will need to know this, and I am all about you getting informed as soon as possible. Can you think of any other terms that you will need to know? My first volleyball season just finished for 7th grade! It was super fun, and I'm so glad I made the team. I knew nothing about volleyball before tryouts and your videos really helped me. Thank you so much

@@miriamramirez8867 it's been a rollercoaster tbh, tomorrow they will announce who made which team and I'm nervous, but I believe in me even if I don't make the team. We did hitting drills today and my first two were amazing imo but the other two were not bc I have to work on timing. I was rlly embarrassed and still am but it's ok bc no one's gonna remember. And other girls feel the same. Y'all got this! Even if you don't make the team! Will update you tomorrow

@@ellawoodcock7095 y'all I was just gonna delete my comment bc this probably isn't the answer you wanna hear and I didnt wanna tell anyone. But I did not make the team, and that's ok! I can get better and make it next year. At my school, they value serving the most so my advice would be to get a solid serve down
tysm! I have tryouts tomorrow through Friday and I've never tried out for a sport before, so these are really helpful! Probably not going to make the team because I'm not very well "conditioned" at all, but hopefully it gives me fuel to make the team next year!
UPDATE: I didn't make the team, but the coach appreciated that I was committed and willing to learn so he offered me a position as manager. He says that if I work hard and get more time in, I'm almost sure to make the team next year!

This was a very helpful video, thank you so much for posting it! Will definitely check out some of your other ones since I decided to try out for volleyball on a whim and have lots to learn. I’m a tennis player and haven’t done a team sport in 3 years, so I’m a bit nervous for trying something completely new and outside my comfort zone... but hopefully with more practice and useful videos like this I can become more confident!

Y’all I tried out for my club team on a whim as a liberal, but since they were short on setters they said I could join as one. I panicked and said yes and now I have to play as a setter when I never have before and I’m literally dying 😭 🤚

I had my tryouts today and sadly I didn’t make it. I did find out from my friend that did make it that the coaches picked their favorites (which did include people who couldn’t pass, set, hit, or serve) instead of the people who really tried their best and could do it.
Hi Koko! My freshman tryouts start tomorrow and end on the 13th, I've never played volleyball before but I did summer camps in a club and then at Harper College, so I think I'll do well! Thank you so much for your tips!
Okay so this is the second day of tryouts, i lost the first one because my doctor didn’t put that I was able to do sports, so yeah, but today so far has been good and I think my skills are pretty much average compared to what I thought, and that kinda makes me feel insecure about if I’m gonna make it or not- but ill try to not feel that way. Tomorrow is the last day and the coaches are emailing on Monday night to let us know if we got in one of the two freshman teams. I’ve been thinking about this moment since summer started so i really hope I make it :)
Today was the last day, morning practice, and I think this has been my best day so far. I was loud on the court and out of it, played well and communicated; still have some practice to do but I think I did a really good job. The emails are out on Monday 5:30/6:00 pm, so I'll update then!

I have tryouts later today and tomorrow and im really really nervous!!! But i've been watching these videos and they really help! I played rec in 8th but (currently 10th grader) I hope that I can make the team. My highschool is pretty good at volleyball so I hope I can make the team!

thank you!! i’m in 6th grade and my school starts vollyball in 7th and i am in love w volleyball so i’m preparing myself and studying so i can maybe make a team!
I didn’t make tryouts but they made me manager where I keep score and basically help the coaches. The girls aren’t very fond of me or the idea of a new girl.
Thanks for this amazing video! I have tryouts on November 7th and I’m very nervous. I basically have no experience and I don’t know any of the terms except for “serve” and “spike” 😭 I’m going to watch this every until then!
Edit: So turns out tryouts are 2 days. I’m in 8th grade so for 8th graders, it’s on the 7th and the 10th.

i'm a rising 9th grader and i have tryouts for jv tmrw! I'll let u guys know how it goes :)
alr so i tried out last year and didn’t make the team. i think the main reason for that is i had basically no experience playing in a game, so i was forgetting to call for the ball, didn’t know when to set the ball or just over it, and so because of that a lot of the times the ball ended up just dropping in the court.
i have tryouts in 2 weeks and want to be able to go into the scrimmages we do with confidence, but i have 0 way to play in a game. my friends can’t play with me, and most of my family can’t play because of whatever they have going on at the moment (health issues, work etc.)
basically the point i’m trying to make here is that there is practically no way for me to play in a ‘real’ game. i’’ve been practicing setting, passing, and serving for 2 years now so i want to move on to improving my game sense. is there *anything* i can do? there’s no clubs or recreational volleyball near me either 💀🤞

EDIT: I found out earlier than expected, and I made the team! I'm on the highest skill level team (if that makes any sense) but because of that, I'm only with one of my friends. It's okay though because I get to play setter which is super fun!

I'm pretty nervous, my high school provided a camp a week or 2 before school started. So I got a extra look at who i'm trying out against. The girls are pretty good, I feel horrible when I mess up, I try not to get in my head but it's hard. There's always that little voice telling me I am the worst player (Which I know is not true) but it's still there. I feel I did pretty good, so hopefully I get on!

Okay so, first day there was around 40 people only 18 didn't get cut and were said to come back monday. 3 Will get cut on monday. Hopefully I don't wish me luck!
Extra people ended up coming Monday who couldn't make Friday. Around 46 ish people tried out he said on 14-15 will get on. I got on!!! I'm so happy!

It’s alright yes you can still hit the ball when your middle blocker, If the ball goes of the setter and right in the middle of u and her u hit the ball!
