After viewing Walt’s videos for several months, I come to believe he is a true yachting visionary after seeing his SRDs and HPS presentations.

I have Shannon 38 Hull #7 (Sarah Belle), and the design features that make her seaworthy also make her a beautiful home for me. I'm fit and strong, but although it's not obvious to most people, I'm also physically disabled according to the state of Minnesota. The beautifully-designed companionway, cockpit, galley, and handholds in the cabin make her a most pleasant home for me. So far I've only sailed her on Lake Superior, but Lake Superior is no joke. I've had Sarah Belle on her rails and have sailed her through 15-foot seas, and I have always felt safe on her deck (with my harness clipped to the jackline and lifelines, of course!)

I 0nce thought length and displacement were the answer but after listening to you, you make sense.

I know the fatigue you are talking about; it happens while building all day; a certain point comes where it's better to just pack it in then have to deal later with all the mistakes made trying to finish up a bit of work.

Walter, Sir, I know that you are a busy man and I have seen your guest appearances on Randys channel in the recent year.. if you could find a few minutes here or there to record videos sharing your knowledge and experiences it would be greatly appreciated.. the videos don't need to be a highly polished and big production. Just hit record on your cell phone and talk about whatever you want to share.. have yourself and your family a merry Christmas and a happy new year..God bless you and yours

Thanks for the talk, I'm going to the boat show in Chicago this week and will certainly remember your tips. Just one point, and that is a boat being tied to a dock is not safe. Look up the SS Eastland disaster, July 24, 1915. A total of 844 died while the ship was docked in the Chicago river.

    Walter,
Perfect summation of the subject. My nearly 30 years of sailing and boating totally aligns with what you said and the bruisers, muscle cramps etc. of the past are a reminder. That is why my new boat that is being built is a cruising semi performance catamaran that I can use as a live-aboard. I am approaching 50 now and not as fit / agile as I use to be.
It begs to ask the question, what type of catamaran would you build if you ever did? What innovation would you come up with based on your history of doing things differentially and the innovation?
BTW if I was purchasing a mono-hull your HPS 53/59 would be the choice. The concept etc for an extended cruising live-aboard is brilliant. I am totally surprised it has not been copied by the major yacht builders.
Keep up the great work and hope you save your best for last...

Dear Walter, given what you have just explained, could you comment on 2 or 3 very comfortable boats vs 2 or 3 to completely avoid due to these ergonomic issues?
