By sjoelen we always had extra rules: 1. If you can reach the disc with your hand under the beam, you where alowed to use it again. 2. You could make stapels of 5 in the hokjes and you could count them as 10 points. 3. You could go a second time with everything that didn’t go into the hokjes.
classic King's Day games (maybe except for the balloon-game, but others are true classics)... with regards to playing Shuffleboard, my mother literally outlawed it to be played inside due to the amount of, well, aggression that went into playing it... my family is rather competitive and after breaking two large windows in a span of 2 weeks (same window, almost width of the house) my mother decreed we were only allowed to play it outside all the way in the back of the backyard...

Actually the game you play at 13:00 called sjoelen, If you have 1 wooden stone in each box its a set, its worth more points and counts as 20 points, When there are no sets left, you start counting individually.

Did you count the score of the sjoelen correct? If you get a disc in every gate you get 20 points, until you cant make full sets anymore you have to count the eyes. So if you have 1 of each 20, 2 of each 40 and so on. But if you have the rest only in the 2,3 and 4 you get 49 points
When you shuffle the sjoelen, then it's handy making a bit of a scratch with it in the wooden sjoelbak - it goes better. Like stretching the legs before and after running...
on family reunions or something like that and we play sjoelen there's always this one drunk uncle who makes these very annoying jokes, those cheating cousins, your aunt trying to keep your drunk uncle in control, your grandpa totally killing this game because this is the only thing he ever did when he was younger, your dad getting mad because he can't win and the rest of the family partly not giving a shit and partly dying of laughter
They have this new invention back here in Netherlands now, it's called 'videogames'. It is even better than sjoelen! Of course spijkerpoepen is still what everybody does every day but I am telling you, that 'videogames' thing will catch on. Maybe bring some to America next time you're here.
