I have this helmet and I fully agree with you. After 300+ miles on a naked bike it has become the best helmet I have ever had: quiet, very comfortable, light and excellent vision.
I’m the same, I’ve got the bullitt and I’m not happy with it, considering buying the Glamster, just hope it is a lot better than the bullitt to be worth it.
I've had a Bullitt since I first started riding for my CBT and Direct Access in January, and in all fairness, it was ok on my Mutt 125cc, however; since passing my test and getting my new bike, the helmet is showing its flaws. Primarily, it's ridiculously loud (I wear plugs and it's still distractingly loud at 60mph) and the amount of drag on the Motorway at 70mph is rather frustrating. It's not a bad helmet, but with 2021 hopefully being a less crap year, I want to get some longer rides in and the Bullitt just isn't going to cut it, so I've ordered myself a Glamster as an early Christmas/Birthday present and it should be arriving this week. This review and those from Urban Rider (where I've bought the helmet from) and others on TH-cam have definitely influenced my decision. I'll still be using the Bullitt, and may just whip the visor off and wear it with sunglasses when hotter days arrive.
Thanks for this detailed review! I live in Taiwan, and it’s super hot and humid here most of the time. I ride every day on a naked bike to work and sometimes ride faster like up to 140 kmh on an express way. I used to wear a Shark Vancore, and as much as I love its look, it’s just not a decent helmet to wear every day, it’s super noisy when going fast and it vents perfectly well only because it just doesn’t seal well... The goggle doesn’t stop the wind from slapping my face and the rain would just leak in whenever I lift the goggle a lil bit. I have a set of Bluetooth earphones (BKS2, which is manufactured by a Taiwanese brand, but the speaker pad is basically like those on other brands of Bluetooth earphones including Sena). I’m now choosing between Arai Rapide Neo and Shoei Glamster for daily use and also weekend use (will get a Shark Race Pro R for weekend use next year) and I’m wondering if you could tell me which one you’d get if you were me. 😭
Get Shoei’s ‘Whisper Strip’ (skirt) that wasn’t designed ~at least not originally~ for this helmet…it fits perfectly and will work in combination with the Glamster’s (included) mesh chin curtain too, for a dramatic reduction in wind-noise.

Hi, do you think you can give a short comparison between the Glamster and the Rapide Neo as someone who has tried both? Like which helmet would you prefer for daily use and how they compare in terms of venting / heat dissipation, also does the 300gram difference in weight really make that much of a difference. Few months back I was leaning more towards the Glamster, but the more I look at the Rapide Neo, the more I am attracted to it instead. Decisions decisions..
Its all about fit. I think the Arai vents better and is quieter (for me anyway) I didnt noticed the weight difference, both helmets are very well balanced.

Thanks for the review. Would you pick the Glamster over the RYD? I have an Ex zero but am now looking for a helmet to use in the colder weather. Cheers
Personally no, particularly if you already own the EX Zero. The RYD will be a better helmet in cold weather and I also think it has much better ventilation which will help in damp conditions. I can honestly say that I think the RYD is my favourite helmet, particularly with the transitions visor.

Hi a cpl of weeks ago I asked your opinion on this helmet against the Bycity retro helmet which you gave a good review on. I may have missed your reply 😉 I appreciate the price difference. What would you say with regard to a comparison
Hi, I thought I had replied? But in a nutshell it’s going to all be about the fit. The Shoei is a better quality helmet, but the ByCity isn’t far behind it. The lightness of the ByCity is a plus, but things like the lack of a pinlock is a minus
I’ve read that the pin lock causes reflection and glare issues, and that it’s offered with the helmet because the helmet is very stuffy and you can’t do without the pin lock. Thoughts?
I'm not entirely sure but a thing to consider is that the Rapide is rated high enough to be track-ready, meanwhile I don't remember hearing anything in that regard for the Glamster. That to me makes a massive difference
Depends what I’m riding and where I’m going. The Ex-Zero is good for warm days with sunglasses or goggles. The RYD has been a staple, and I’ve just bought a Hornet ADV so it’ll be interesting to see what that’s like
I'm still waiting for my blue Glamster in XXL to be available. I ordered like eight weeks ago... In February I was able to test wear one at a bike fair. I already own an EX--ZERO which fits pretty good to my oval head. Shoei NXR and RYD won't fit so from my view the Glamster does NOT fit same head shape as I don't see "the Shoei standard size" to be applied to every model. My two cents. :) Still waiting for mine... :(
I think the Laguna blue has yet to be released. I've worn the EX-Zero, RYD, Neotec II, GT-Air II, j.o and this and they all fit exactly the same. Thats where my comment came from
Yes I reckon there is room. The Ear cups are shallower than some helmets, but still plenty of space. I didn't want to use comms on this helmet, but I might test fit my Sena 30K. Should be an easy fit
@@mancavemoto I have installed one. It fits but I have pressure points on my ears after a few hours. I need to play around and see if I can fix it. Maybe my ears are just too big haha
I added a sena unit to mine and it made the helmet extremely loud with the wind noise. Must have really messed with the aerodynamics with the sena sticking off the side. I'll be taking it off and using a different helmet if I need comms.
Hi, great video. Would you say this is a good helmet for daily/commuting use? I really like it & only want to have one helmet. Just wish it had a intergrated sun visor but I guess that is the problem with wanting retro. Thanks :)
@@mancavemoto Thanks for the reply. I have a few more questions if thats alright? First being do you know of any motorcycle gloves which are all weather, contain armour & are of a short length. Second Q is, are there any motorcycle jackets which are all weather & have armour that you know of? Lastly if you have videos on my questions or anything that could help that would be great. Thank you, Gee :)
Thanks Gee, yes there are quite a few that I could suggest and I have reviewed quite a few in the past. A lot depends on the style that you want. The Halvarssons advance gloves have been great, are waterproof and not bulky. I’m testing a pair of Klim Vanguard Goretex S gloves. They are a short waterproof but breathable glove with armour
@@mancavemoto Thanks again for replying, I'll be sure to watch your other review videos on motorcycle kit. I'm into the cafe racer/ vintage/retro look (if that makes sense).
I just found these gloves; Alpinestars Corozal DryStar Waterproof Gloves. They look good, not sure if they are though. Reviews are positive. Have you ever had any Alpinestars products? If so are they worth it. (Sorry for all the questions)
Greetings from the states! I’m currently wearing the gringo s ece helmet but it is kind of noisy, in your opinion is this the best retro helmet? I think I’m going to imported and buy the transitions. Thanks
Hello! Best retro helmet is a difficult question to answer. I like the Glamster, it’s not as quiet as I’d hoped and the ventilation struggles on really hot days (admittedly they don’t happen that often here) but it’s typical Shoei quality. The Arai Rapide is a good choice also, but it maybe more 80’s styled
Hi! Im planning to buy a shoei glamster or arai rapide neo. My head measurement is 56cm and it says that im small on those helmets..would you recommend to get the exact small size or should i tale the next size which is medium. Please enlighten me. In noob
I am still hoping it's not a RYD replacement...Also a question: have you ever tried on NXR helmet, I found a completely different fit (size small), was so uncomfortable comparing to my beloved RYD. When people say it's either Arai or Shoei head, it doesn't make much sense..
@@mancavemoto Oh crap, why Shoei, why? I was really hoping they'll keep it for European market, very universal piece of kit at affordable price...Thanks Tony! Glamster is just too much hipster for my liking. Hope in 3 years they'll come up with something different when I'll need a replacement ;)
which is better, shoei glamster or the new shoei rf 1400? I have the shoei glamster now and thinking of selling it and buying the new rf 1400 because I feel like my glamster lacks premium feeling. (matte black) , and I would like to insert the helmet a JBL cardo packtalk black , the glamster doesn't have built it pockets for the speakers so, would you think replacing the glamster with rf 1400 is worth it?
There is room to fit comms in the Glamster th-cam.com/video/WjG4ry0n6Jg/w-d-xo.html The RF1400 hasn’t landed here in the UK yet so I can compare, but having worn the RYD and GT-Air II I can imagine the rf1400 will be a more premium feeling helmet. The Glamster stacks up well against its ‘retro’ competition, but as a helmet I have to say it is my least favourite Shoei
@@mancavemoto yes, I already searched it in your channel and watched it. I really feel like my glamster lacks that "premium feeling" , but it just suits well with my xsr 155 motorcycle , but when I saw this rf 1400, I really liked the features and some designs and print of it. so thank you for answering my question. subscribed also, I will wait for your review with the shoei rf-1400
They are roughly the same price, so i guess that all comes down to what you want from the helmet. If you want the full visor option then it has to be the glamster. If you want an MX look and the open eyeport then obviously thr EX Zero is the choice. They are quite different helmets so its impossible to draw a value for money conclusion for them on that alone.
I just got the Glamster and it whistles really loudly with the visor open. I'm super disappointed as I ride in the city and with pillions so I like to have the visor open for general awareness and talking. Is there anything that can be done about this? I feel I may have to return it as it basically makes day to day riding through the city unenjoyable
Hi there. Did you get any response from this question? What was the outcome? Was it really bad? I’ve heard others say this and like you I ride through the city with my visor up.
i dont know why, but the ventilation on my helmet is very bad. i already bought a new visor and pinlock. and its always moist on the bottom or the top. even after tweaking the pin lock... :( and overall I wouldnt be that sad about it, because you think you just open the visor and the ventilation will dry the moist, but it just doesnt. when it the pin lock is getting moist you have to rubb it dry with a cloth...
@@mancavemoto and the Vision through the pinlock isn't that great . I'm not happy with it overall. Can you recommend an other full face Retro looking helmet?
@@mancavemoto Bought one this morning, love it! I think it's pretty much a do it all helmet that looks retro! Fine on the motorway too. Concerned my Sena wont fit though...
@@mancavemoto I have the SMH5, got it fitted but the speakers are super tight... there's not really a recess for them, I need to play with them to find the sweet spot but it's going to be super tight in there, I think if I had bigger ears I'd struggle.
The easy answer is "don't ride it with earplugs out" but i woulfnt be that churlish. At lot of the contributing factors are going to be how it fits you and what bike you ride. On an adventure bike with a screen I found it to be noisy and the ventilation wasnt good. On a naked bike it was acceptably quiet and ventilation was fine.
I have Shoei head but for me the Glamster is noisier than the X-14. I feel the AGV X3000 (Ago model) is a better helmet. Light, quiet and the visor opens to multiple positions (and stays there). Plus you get to look like a Legoman.
Yep of all the Shoei’s I’ve owned or tried, this is the noisiest. It seems to perform pretty well against most competitors, although to be fair I’ve not tried the X3000.
Tony, that was a nice and detailed review, thank you very much! It helped me deciding. I recently bought a Glamster and so far I can confirm most parts of your review. The only thing that I don't like about my Glamster is the noise level while riding with the visor fully opened. Of course I'm aware that there's always a sound coming from the visor being exposed to the airstream, but the Glamster appears to be especially loud. Starting at approx. 20 mph it gets louder during acceleration until it feels like sitting next to a tea pot. When I remove the pinlock visor it's completely gone. My educated guess is that it's connected to the pinlock visor. Has anyone else experienced this strong whistle coming from the open visor? I tried adjusting the pinlock visor by turning the hooks but no effect at all.. Maybe I'm just too stupid to install a the visor and a simple hint from you guys can help me :-)
Thanks Bjoern, that’s interesting, perhaps the pinlock is causing some kind of resonance? It’s not something I’ve noticed, but to be fair it’s also not something I’ve been looking out for.
@@floriane1447 I'm afraid no. At some point I thought this might be something you have to live with. I could have lived with that, but another annoying ticking/crackling noise added and caused me to get in contact with Shoei. After I had written to Shoei they asked me to send in the helmet. Did so and they provided a new helmet instead of investigating. I sold the bike and the helmet shortly afterwards so I could not test the replaced helmet. Are you experiencing the same issue? Ben
@@mancavemoto Yeah I have a request to one of them to check. Just waiting on a reply. These helmets aren't D0T approved, that's why I was told they couldn't be shipped to the U.S.
Yep good point. We have a similar situation here where Dot helmets are not legal. I know people that where them, but as you say if they were injured in a crash the insurance could not pay up.

With the chinbar close to your face, is there room for a microphone that you would have on a Sena or a Cardo?
Yep, plenty of room. As i mention in the video the chin bar isnt that close
Hi great vid. I’ve currently got the Bell Bullitt and I do find it’s quite loud. Is this helmet a lot quieter? As hoping to do a trip to Europe next year if we’re allowed. Thanks.
I found this helmet to me a lot quieter than the Bullit, and more comfortable, and less drafty as well as less prone to fogging...
Views from the Man Cave thank you for getting back to me. That great. It’s my birthday in July so it’ll be on the list but I’ll prob have to buy it myself haha.
@@mancavemoto ok great, thanks for your help! I was leaning towards the RYD but that confirms it.
What shirt are you wearing? The Jean colored one.
This one th-cam.com/video/2-u32PucBhc/w-d-xo.html
Hey… I just picked up one of these and… am having trouble with getting a seal on the pinlock… any advice? Nice video and couldn’t agree me, very pleased with the helmet… other than this pin;okc issue… ;)
Thanking ye kindly… :)
outside of using the adjustment on the pins (which I assume you've tried) I can't think of any other options. Might be worth dropping Shoei an e-mail?
@@mancavemoto thanking ye kindly forthe reply. Much appreciated... i shall drop them a line indeed, and see what they say.
Thanks again, and thanks for he channel... as a new rider, your content has been invaluable :)
Hi a cpl of weeks ago I asked your opinion on this helmet against the Bycity retro helmet which you gave a good review on. I may have missed your reply 😉
I appreciate the price difference.
Thanks you had replied on your other VLOG I must have been on the Brown ale when looking 🤣
I’ve read that the pin lock causes reflection and glare issues, and that it’s offered with the helmet because the helmet is very stuffy and you can’t do without the pin lock. Thoughts?
I did notice some reflection on bright days, and yes the ventilation isnt that great. I'm planning a follow up 'long term' review soon.
So this or Arai Rapide Neo?
Two quite similar yet different helmets tbh. A tough call...
@@mancavemoto I'm still flipping the coin...
I'm not entirely sure but a thing to consider is that the Rapide is rated high enough to be track-ready, meanwhile I don't remember hearing anything in that regard for the Glamster. That to me makes a massive difference
Hi , Tony , what’s your go to summer use helmet ? Looking for something just for warm days. Cheers
Depends what I’m riding and where I’m going. The Ex-Zero is good for warm days with sunglasses or goggles. The RYD has been a staple, and I’ve just bought a Hornet ADV so it’ll be interesting to see what that’s like
Views from the Man Cave thanks tony .. I ride a tiger 800
Thats where my comment came from
I see. Shoei chose strange colors and designs here. Arai's look much better. But the Glamster really hugged my big head. :)
From what I understand that this helmet isn’t coming to the US. Something about it not passing DOT tests?
At the moment it seems that way. It’s not that it hasn’t passed the DOT tests it that is hasn’t been submitted for testing as far as I’m aware
I'm wearing Size M on Bell Bullitt. Will Shoei Glamster M suits me?
It should do, but the Bell has a rounder headshape than the Shoei
@@mancavemoto Got it. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for the review! What do you think about Sena or Cardo headset unit inside? Enough room? Easy like other Shoei helmets?
@@ThrottleDownunder I used slim speakers and it allowed for all day use.
@@nate.adv282 ahh I didn'y know they were available, I need to look into it
Hi, great video. Would you say this is a good helmet for daily/commuting use? I really like it & only want to have one helmet. Just wish it had a intergrated sun visor but I guess that is the problem with wanting retro.
Thanks :)
Yes I think it would be fine, it’s just a straight forward helmet that seems to work well
@@mancavemoto Thanks for the reply.
Thank you,
Gee :)
Hey do you think this helmet look good on a modern naked bike?
Sure, its a good looking helmet full stop. I've been wearing it on my Tiger 800.
What is the shell size of that particular helmet you’ve tested?
Size Large
@@mancavemoto Thank you!
Arai Rapid or the Shoie Glamster? I'm stuck trying to decide. Which would you grab first?
Tough call, depends on the ride. Probably the Arai as it was quoted for me
Why is it that my shoei glamster's wind noise is so loud? I read a lot of comments here saying that it's quiet.
Could be down to the fit
thanks
Hi! Im planning to buy a shoei glamster or arai rapide neo. My head measurement is 56cm and it says that im small on those helmets..would you recommend to get the exact small size or should i tale the next size which is medium. Please enlighten me. In noob
If you've measured your head correctly, go with those sizes - th-cam.com/video/Exjt5q9l1yU/w-d-xo.html
How does the Shoei J.O, Ex-Zero & Glamster fit compared to the Bell Eliminator? Also, do you know if the logo peels off?
The Eliminator is a rounder fit than the shoei helmets
And yes the Shoei logo can be removed
@@mancavemoto Great! Thank you very much!
I am still hoping it's not a RYD replacement...Also a question: have you ever tried on NXR helmet, I found a completely different fit (size small), was so uncomfortable comparing to my beloved RYD. When people say it's either Arai or Shoei head, it doesn't make much sense..
I have and it seemed pretty much the same to me? I might try one again then!
Oh and the RYD is discontinued for the 2020 range
@@mancavemoto Oh crap, why Shoei, why? I was really hoping they'll keep it for European market, very universal piece of kit at affordable price...Thanks Tony! Glamster is just too much hipster for my liking. Hope in 3 years they'll come up with something different when I'll need a replacement ;)
Yes I’m a big fan of the RYD too, a shame it’s going, maybe sales were not that good?
@@mancavemoto That's what I was thinking too: poor sales
which is better, shoei glamster or the new shoei rf 1400? I have the shoei glamster now and thinking of selling it and buying the new rf 1400 because I feel like my glamster lacks premium feeling. (matte black) , and I would like to insert the helmet a JBL cardo packtalk black , the glamster doesn't have built it pockets for the speakers so, would you think replacing the glamster with rf 1400 is worth it?
There is room to fit comms in the Glamster th-cam.com/video/WjG4ry0n6Jg/w-d-xo.html
The RF1400 hasn’t landed here in the UK yet so I can compare, but having worn the RYD and GT-Air II I can imagine the rf1400 will be a more premium feeling helmet.
👍
Shoei ex zero or glamster? In terms of value for money
and overall I wouldnt be that sad about it, because you think you just open the visor and the ventilation will dry the moist, but it just doesnt. when it the pin lock is getting moist you have to rubb it dry with a cloth...
yes, I found that i was getting condensation on the pinlock, but not between it and the visor, if that makes sense.
@@mancavemoto and the Vision through the pinlock isn't that great . I'm not happy with it overall. Can you recommend an other full face Retro looking helmet?
Hi, how does the helmet perform at (high) speed in terms of stability on a naked bike? aerodynamics etc...
Yep it’s pretty good, I wore it a couple of days ago on a 1290 superduke and it was fine. A bit noisy, but nothing terrible
@@mancavemoto Bought one this morning, love it! I think it's pretty much a do it all helmet that looks retro! Fine on the motorway too. Concerned my Sena wont fit though...
stuart moore Update on fitting speakers/comm unit would be much appreciated.
Which sena do you have, looks like there will be no problem fitting one
@@mancavemoto I have the SMH5, got it fitted but the speakers are super tight... there's not really a recess for them, I need to play with them to find the sweet spot but it's going to be super tight in there, I think if I had bigger ears I'd struggle.
Different purpose but, I find the Glamster claustrophobic compared to my Arai Profile-V.
It does seem to be a slimmer fit.
Good rev matey
Cheers
Very strange. With earplugs out, the Glamster is very loud for me. I’m riding a Street Scrambler. Wish it was less noisy as I might sell it.
Its still your favourite???
My favourite Shoei, no that would still be my RYD
Views from the Man Cave ok but where’s the review?
@@mancavemoto I think so, perhaps I could not install it correctly. Since you haven't experienced this, I might give the screwdriver another try!
Hey there, did you find a solution ?
@@floriane1447 I'm afraid no. At some point I thought this might be something you have to live with. I could have lived with that, but another annoying ticking/crackling noise added and caused me to get in contact with Shoei. After I had written to Shoei they asked me to send in the helmet. Did so and they provided a new helmet instead of investigating. I sold the bike and the helmet shortly afterwards so I could not test the replaced helmet. Are you experiencing the same issue? Ben
@@schellpower I just purchased this helmet and have the same issue. How can a £400 helmet not be designed around aerodynamic noise? It's mental
What's it like compared to the Arai neo rapide ?
Quite different really, this is more compact and lighter. I would say the Arai has better ventilation
Beautiful helmet, too bad it is not available in US.
Maybe one day!

If I could only get someone to buy one and send to me here in the U.S.
You can buy from the retailers in the links I included and they ship to the US

I need to import one and put a fake DOT sticker on it, even though my state doesn't require a helmet.
Its weird that you don't have to wear a helmet, but if you do it needs to be DOT certified! :)
Yep good point. We have a similar situation here where Dot helmets are not legal. I know people that where them, but as you say if they were injured in a crash the insurance could not pay up.
Just a shame about the name...
Yep, but at least its not plastered all over it. It is only a name anyway
That is an ugly helmet! Thanks for the video.
