It is so helpful to see how you handle the common responses us "slightly lower rated" players face every day! Inspires me to jump in there and play more games! Thanks, John!! :-)
john, your play is so sound and fundementally secure, but it's still a nail biter watching that clock tick down while you're explaining stuff hahaha keep up the great work!
I've been playing the Caro since August & I can definitely confirm that you get a LOT of exchange variations around the 1300-1400 level. I've moved up into the 1600s in the last couple months and it's already much less common at that level -- a lot more classical & advance variations for me nowadays. Absolutely living for your upload schedule in 2023 -- highlight of the year for me!
thanks john! hearing the way you think about chess is such a help. the fact that youre over 1000 elo better than your opponent but still making it seem like its anybodys game is pretty epic
I love watching you play "my" openings :D I have a similar play style as you do (on a much lower level though) so I can really learn what to do in tight spots that confuse the hell out of me :) Keep it coming John, really enjoying your return to regular TH-cam videos
Wow! Big blunder by John, 21. a5... seeing the opportunity to en passant and STILL choosing another move... lol Thanks for all the great content recently JB!
Hey John! I started watching your videos pretty recently on recommendation from a friend. Started with chess fundamentals and now pretty religiously watch your climbing the rating ladder series. Just wanted to say thanks for the content, I played my first otb tournament this weekend and dropped a Nimzo-Indian after seeing it played in a few of your videos. Fun fun defense. Thank you again for the inspiration!!
So this happened recently, I was doing pretty bad in my bullet games. And then I stopped right there and watched a bullet stream of John. That boosted my energy and confidence so much, I was able to secure over 7 wins in a row! You are amazing John :)
I'm around 1300 like John's opponent here and so many of my black games go 1. e4 e6, 2. Nf3. I got so tired of playing 2... d5 exd5 that I started studying the Taimanov and play 2... c5 instead. Oh and I play the Panov as white against the Caro, so this video was super helpful!
I appreciate you doing these with your actual account for the reason stated. Even with the point refund it's a bit mean to do these with an account that looks legitimately low rated. The alternative, which I also approve of, is to do it like Simon Williams. He makes an account specific to the run but the name for it is always something along the lines of GingerGM-speedrun, so players know what they're up against and can abort if they don't want to participate.
Caro-Khan player (1400-1600) here, white taking the d pawn on move 3 happens the majority of the time, and of those I think the main line exchange is the least common.
Great video as always. There's one thing that I do like about playing under an anonymous account though - it gets rid of the opponent's ELO anxiety. I really do feel like your opponents are intimidated by your rating and it affects how they play.
I'm afraid lots of your lower rated opponents think that they are going to lose anyway, so they play the fastest they can. Bad strategy, of course, but I understand they don't want to suffer for 20 minutes. Anyways these videos are excellent, super instructive, I love to watch them.
I've got to 1500 rapid without any opening theory or remembering any lines. . Once the game starts after a few moves I'm out of book & I still make these bookworms smoke.
I was really struck by how effective that seemingly anti-developing Be6 move was, placing the bishop in front of the central pawn but for a good reason
John thanks to me Daniel and you I have reached 1850 rapid with no over the board games and never got coached thats good, it could have been more higher too but I send you challenges many time for 15 + rapid games to play in climbing the ladder but u dont play, I dont even choose collor to play u, I dont have any kind of weird prep, I just want to play u but dont respond 😥
If it's hard to find an opponent due to the rating differences, feel free to send me a challenge, I'd love to play you!! @tvagner I'm only 1500 (everyone is welcome btw, I know the crowd here is good)
I don't really need cardio anymore. All I need is a video of John explaining his thought process in detail as the clock goes red.
It is so helpful to see how you handle the common responses us "slightly lower rated" players face every day! Inspires me to jump in there and play more games! Thanks, John!! :-)
Love to see you jumping into those rapid/classical games! :)
john, your play is so sound and fundementally secure, but it's still a nail biter watching that clock tick down while you're explaining stuff hahaha keep up the great work!
I know, he always keeps us biting our nails when he lets the clock run down! Lol

Thanks for the interesting video Minnesota Fins. Your enthusiasm knows no bounds!
I don’t think I’ve ever played longer than 10 min online games… but watching your vids makes me want to
John you always handle your time with such finesse while explaining your thought process -- something I wouldn't be able to do! 😁
Wow!

Holy hell

Interesting game! Keep up the good work John, your content is much appreciated

I got jumpy seeing that Bishop sitting on E6 in front of that Pawn. I could hear the F8 Bishop gasping for breath.
I know. I personally started hyperventilating as my body slumped to the ground, consumed by a powerful panic attack
@@peterm8461 LMAO
I’m very new to chess and love this channel learning how to think about positions like a master is incredible
All these JB vids making me nostalgic. Thanks for the lessons!
My TH-cam watch time has increased exponentially since JB returning with the best quality chess instruction on the platform :)
As a 1xxx player games like these are really great, no huge blunders but positional advice. Can take a lot from this, thanks!

Love seeing some Caro Kann from Black's side. It's super underrated. People at 1500 aren't prepared for it 👍
Yes I am lol.

Good point!
Yeah and the players he faces should be stronger and they have more time
Great work John! You were missed ❤️
loool John calling out other youtubers/streamers for using alternate accounts was hilarious
I learn so much from your explanations and teaching videos. Thanks! Dave from Ohio
This recording schedule has me in heaven!

Everybody stay for the full analysis, you will be awarded with a queen sac and a shocked John!
2:00 what if white plays Ng5? looks like it would mess up black's pawn structure after dxe6
Hey John! enjoying your videos as always, any chance we could see you play a Calle Zukertort as white?
Thank you, Andrew! I'll add it to my list 📝
Wow saw new video posted 32 seconds ago. Just finished your last video!
LET'S GO ANOTHER UPLOAD
Wow, surprise queen sac in the analysis!
I think we play this way John because we’re afraid we aren’t good enough to get compensation if black plays dxe4😅

12:41 How long’s “a knight period”? Instinct tells me: probably ‘Sun-up til sundown’, but I’m reluctant to put words in ur mouth.
caro kann panov variation
steer well clear of critical lines or lose in a few moves the end
Thnx for the caro
i have the same cup as you
Need a ponziani

Dude he doesnt have time to respond to every challenge
Great seeing your thought
process but you take too long to make a move.
