I really enjoyed the analysis that you performed after this game. I found the opening analysis particularly beneficial, as you highlighted the nuance of those variations. You showed us how to analyze openings like a true master! Thank you.
Very instructive game/analysis... especially to someone like me who is planning to add the Kalashnikov to my repertoire. (although after watching this carnage, I'm having second thoughts)
18:35 Tony Rotella's Killer Sicilian book recommends 7. ... Be7 for black. white is usually happy to see 7. ... Nf6 allowing the sveshnikov transposition, so 7. ... Be7 confuses amateur white players. amateur white players usually play 8. Nd5 (which scores well for black) instead of the critical Nc4. john talks about it more in his review of the book for anyone interested at 15:34 th-cam.com/video/E7vOQ_lowFw/w-d-xo.html
I play this as white and this really helped me understand the nuances better, such as when you explained why to play Nc4 to take advantage of a delayed b5.
I really liked how you moved in to pressure the king side, not necessarily having a winning combo, but squeezing black's options into a complete loss of counterplay. And of course, "be careful to watch out for opponent's counterplay"!! Lol. Thanks!
Hey John! You mentioned that you really liked how your knights supported each other on e3 and d5. Are there any guidelines on knowing when such knights are superfluous and when their support of each other is useful? Thanks for another great, instructive game and analysis!!
i think they're useful when they're controlling critical squares or exerting a lot of influence on weaknesses in an opponent's position, so that if one gets traded off you can replace it and maintain your positional control. If a knight has no prospects and one of its rerouting squares is occupied by the other knight then that's generally a sign of poor coordination
I've played the Kalashnikov for a while now. The point of ...Be7 before Nf6 is to deny white Bg5. Black will then later activate the bishop via d8-b6 or trade it off by playing Bg5 themselves. It does allow white to play Nc4, but after ...b5 the Knight moves to e3 and black claims that so many moves with one piece in the opening is detrimental to white's game. Especially since it is actually black that has the lead in development at that point.
Hi John, I'm an E4 player and score the worst against the sicillian out of all of Black's responses, so it's really instructive to see you navigate these positions. I would be interested to see a Grand Prix attack at some point from the White side if that interests you, as it seems like a promising way to get Black a bit out of book.
I doubt the 2100 opponent felt like he played well. The “accuracy” thing actually gets inflated when one player gets completely blown off the board out of the opening like this compared to sharp back and forth games
This a dry interview this why hikaru my favorite dude boring af even tho chess is kinda boring in the grand scheme of things but shout out to Levy he brings all the excitement to Magnus and his games
Hi John. Are you actually giving away prize gifts? I got a message on your channel that I won and to DM you. It has your name on my comment to your vide My first chess opponant about six years ago. I DM'ed back and I was asked how long have I been a subscriber.

Big thunderstorm, heavy rain, perfect night to watch John amaze me.
Found your videos awhile back after you crushed me in some random lichess tournament. Enjoyed your videos ever since.
Thanks for looking me up and watching!
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Most instructive chess content on TH-cam. Thanks John!
I just love to watch all of your instructional videos (Standard, climbing the rating ladder and clock as a weapon)! Thank you so much, John!

As always, extremely instructive and easy to digest content. Thank you once again for doing this, John.
Great video John! Knight mobility in this game is beautiful. Loving the content and appreciate you streaming today. Top tier content. Cheers

Play ..b5 earlier, and youll be fine
Always so instructive and clear. Thanks!

Holy archive batman! I wasn't even born when John posted this video!!

A good teacher you are John. Keep it up!
Love it: so many videos!!! 🤩🤩
Great vid. I like the part about knights gaining value as time gets low,. I'd never considered that idea.
Love these Sicilians. Always a fun game
"Do not sweat a drop in the evaluation of 2 to 3 points"
I assume this doesn't apply to me being -3 on move 8
Very instructive.
Thanks!
Nice good knight vs. bad bishop game

+1 for Grand Prix Attack.
@@liontx +1 from me as well.
Great game, keep it up.
using the queen trade as a weapon.... yes
Hell yeah more John in my life!
That was clinical :)
This looked so easy but then black played 85 acc i guess he is 2100 for a reason xD
At 28:19 is Rd3 to swing rook to h file a good idea?
Thanks teach
Any time!
Black not playing b5 earlier was the reason white was able to get in knife f5, fascinating
I guess you might say, black played their Kalashnikov a bit too... Automatically 😏
John - oh great one - what temperature do you have your thermostat set to?!
70F most all the time 🤟
You're an out of control maniac John. But seriously though, loving your current output, keep up the good work.
you reference your game against Shabalov....was that also the game where you obtained your GM norm?
I dont know if youve already explained this before, but why is your username "Fins"?
It's from the Jimmy Buffett song "Fins" :)
Analysis gang!
Hey John can you play the Magnus carlsen app aged 7 pls
As a 1300 rapid player I don’t think I would have castled short as black. Just set the king on an open file….looks uncomfortable to me!
Hey John, this is guys!
The guy who invented the AK-47 !?!?
I’ve known this as the Lowenthal. And I’ve had good results with Morphy’s move on move 5 as white, Nxc6. Your thoughts, John?
Imagine playing I.M. John, thinking you played pretty well, only to see the title of this video when you login to TH-cam LOL
Tbf, a 2100 knows they run the risk when playing a more fringe opening. The element of surprise would be my best resort in playing the mighty Fins
I doubt the 2100 opponent felt like he played well. The “accuracy” thing actually gets inflated when one player gets completely blown off the board out of the opening like this compared to sharp back and forth games
This game is why I stay away from the Sicilian as black. One wrong move in theory and you can be losing on move 8...
Let’s go
This a dry interview this why hikaru my favorite dude boring af even tho chess is kinda boring in the grand scheme of things but shout out to Levy he brings all the excitement to Magnus and his games
