I couldn’t help but giggle at Savathun’s “No more than yours.” line to Mara. She just sounds so calm and playful, because she knows she’s got a trick under her sleeve. Debra Wilson is the real MVP, can’t wait for her to go off in Witch Queen.
That's the brilliance of her performance as Savathun. Her sheer ordinariness. Nothing in her voice, tone or demeanor gives you ANY clue to the depth of her evil or her boundless ability to use people and discard them without a shred of remorse. The perfect psychopath. A true silver-tongued devil.
From the way Mara spoke in the epilogue, I'm genuinely afraid her desperation is going to get the better of her and she's going to do something with the worm other than analyze its power and then kill it.

it explains missing the short cutscene but it is not the reason the quest doesn't progress. I don't know why people keep thinking this. Quest step completing seems to be complete RNG. I've run it 7 times and not one time has the cutscene been skipped
Yeah I managed to watch it through the first time, but played through again just because the mission was fantastic, and someone skipped the cutscene immediately.
I wonder if the reason Savathun did let osiris live was because at the moment of the exorcism she was no longer bound by her worm so she actually had the ability to not deceive, and keep her word for the first time.
That's interesting. She's still a liar at heart, but I wonder if that little truth among the lies was an act of... rebellion, I suppose? She seems to have a lot of fun telling the truth - hinting at her game, while still concealing the bigger trick. She did fulfil every part of the bargain - Osiris freed for a worm removed - she just still outsmarted Mara in how it would play out (seriously, how did Mara not expect that though.) Such an interesting antagonist, I really wonder where she'll end up after WQ - I kinda hope she doesn't just die, she's a great character. Not a hero by any means, and I don't think she'll ever be trustworthy, but not exactly just a villain either - a separate player with separate goals. Like a mirror of Caiatl - both technically on "our side" against the darkness, albeit with their own separate goals and desires, but they go about it differently - one is very direct, the other schemes.
Not quite, she still deceived us even tho she was able to keep her word. Her word was that if we took her work out she would return Osiris, it was never stated that she would remain in the vicinity immediately after the removal which is want mara wanted, so she could kill savathin while she is wormless ad weak. However savathin returned Osiris by switch places with him because she knew Mara wanted to kill her afterwords, so the deception is housed in the way she returned Osiris. Also, this implicates that savathin knows what capabilities maras powers have, seeing as how she knew Mara was able to freeze her in a "cocoon" or what ever you want to call it, and had in fact placed the rune she used to switch places with Osiris all the way before the beginning of season of the hunt.
But at the same time, it's exactly what she does anyway. When someone who does nothing but lie finally tells the truth, are they not still lying to us in a way? About what they really are and how that matches what they say?
I'm both excited and terrified to know how Xivu Arath fits into all of this. She's the most mysterious of the siblings at the moment, and she's clearly gaining more and more power while we're forced to deal with Savathun. I sort of wonder if the sisters have an under the table arrangement, if you will, that will show up later.
Like in Metal Gear Solid 5 where Big Boss, Ocelot, Zero and Miller all had an agreement to let Venom Snake(you, the player) believe they were the real big boss.
I've been saying for the longest that I believe her to be the most dangerous of all the sisters. She's brutal, efficient, and won't back down from a fight with anything or anyone. And she's in direct contact with the darkness now? Her raid is going to be something, I also have an idea where I believe Savathun won't ever be a direct enemy to actually kill.
@@_VXI she is i believe she destroyed caitl's homeworld and has conquered galaxies. Just think cabal's military forces being weak against something, they have the highest military prowess out there and them falling to xivu is a big one.
I am also very interested in the fact that Xivu Arath has been amassing an army because while there wasn’t necessarily an overwhelming number of threats in the final room of the mission it was a very high density for the size of it. And with kelgorath, the scorn and the taken ogre returning repeatedly to annoy us it sounds like they are just slowly amassing an army without losing anyone at all due to whatever form of resurrection they are using. I know it said kill kelgorath one final time but honestly I don’t think that’s the last we saw of him rather with it meaning to kill him so we can finally end savathun (which we didnt) If Xivu Arath gets too many forces this way it won’t matter how good we are, we won’t be able to defend the city from an endless army and help the people, thus losing the war really.
@@atsukana1704 I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Kelgorath either. The lore about him says he’s been resurrected many times, and we already killed him prior to this ourselves, so I’d bet we’ll see him again soon.
There's a problem. Savathun said "this construct protects me from those who wish me harm, from my worm's hunger" and even Petra said that savathun kept her promise to the letter. What if everything savathun said while she was in the crystal was actually the truth because her worm wasn't able to feed while she was encased.
The thing with that is old habbits die hard. Just because she kept to her word once doesn't mean much. Especially when it was a means to an end. She knows that everyone in the system wants her dead and her cunning is her best resource to keep her alive. She's good at it. Probably better than anyone else. Not to mention the worms chose deception and cunning for her because it was *already* her nature before they bound her to it. It's unlikely she's going to turn over a new leaf just because she can when she knows it won't help her.
I agree to take the queen of lies at her word for one instance isnt amazing, but it kind of is because her whole thing is deception. But since that's the case, wouldn't her telling the truth kind of be impossible for her to do? She wanted to show Crow the truth so he could come to terms with his old self, and he did. She said she would return Osiris alive for the exorcising of her worm. That's two ways she easily could have decieved us, but she kept her word and essentially gave us the best outcome. Crow could have resented everything but he seems to have adjusted well to his truth, and Osiris is alive. Not saying it's for sure, but it definitely raises some questions to me
@@erouse91 she is still our enemy, the truth in this instance was a calculated gambit for survival to put us off of our game so she could prepare her disappearing act she studied us as much as we studied her and with her last actions sows doubt in the hearts and minds of her enemies. An alliance of convenience and nothing more. The situation with Lahksmi-2 might have been solved peacefully if not for her whispering into that maniacs ear. Cayde’s death can ultimately be laid at her feet as well. And we see in all of these new bits of lore that she has something massive that will be a threat to everyone who isn’t her up her sleeve no she will not be our ally she is our greatest prey yet and this hunt will be glorious and it will be our most difficult yet as well. So steel yourself little light and remember the only truth you should keep close to your heart is that we defy our fate and break the chains of destiny.
Na man something is wrong with this. Caiatl is the leader of the cabal and is now our ally. Misraaks leads House Light and again was once our enemy. Now Savathun says that she wants to further fight the darkness once excised of her worm. While I'm not saying I trust her, something doesn't line up. Our enemies have become our allies before. All I'm saying is it seems to me like Bungie is setting up a rug pull moment.
My theories: 1) She doesn’t steal the light. It’s given to her. Savathun’s needed to die which is why she said thank you after the exorcism. That enabled her to be brought back with light. 2) The dreaming city curse and cycle from her Riven wish which allowed her to have an Ascendant Realm not tied directly to a Worm. 3) This allows Savathun to be brought back to life with the Traveler’s Light but her Darkness powers are still active due to the curse/wish that’s been growing in power for years.
1 is definitely the case. they've been pushing the whole argument of the battle not being between light and dark but between good and evil. the traveler is gonna have some explaining to do

Savathûn gains power from deceiving and misleading others. At this point everyone expected her to renege on her word and either kill or keep Osiris. Her returning him was the most unexpected outcome, and so by keeping her promise, she mislead us with truth. I also love Mara saying that because she has Savathûn’s worm, Savathûn “did not escape unscathed.” As though that wasn’t obviously to her benefit, as well.
it's interesting savathun swapped using Osiris, and not any kind of random hive. She might have more plans regarding this, or limitations maybe? Or she could have done it out of those sentimental feelings she was getting after posing as osiris.
My guess is that it is a delaying tactic. A brilliant one at that. Once she escaped, the Darkness would stop their pursuit and refocus. This would mean that, for at least a little bit, the entire vanguard would have their sight on her fair and square, and many reasons to go after her immediately, perhaps before she can inact the next part of her plan. So she left us something we could not ignore. With Osiris being alive, but unconscious, saint would tie himself up with his recovery. Mara would be too busy investigating the worm to really care. Essentially, she took the road and left a landmine in the way. She very much know that leaving Osiris alive means that he could be an asset against her (if he isn't mind controlled or something) but she is aiming for a far grander goal. Also, she loves to play in relativism. She leaves conflicting information all over the place to make sure the truth is as hard to figure as possible. As her trickster self, her single best contingency is to try and get our guardian to view her as both an enemy and an asset, therby paralyzing the very back and white judgement guardians ususally employ..
I think she truly wasn’t lying to us when she said she would give us back osiris in exchange for exorcising her worm. I think when she was in the amethyst, she was temporarily free or protected from her pact with the worm, finally able to tell the truth
Id like to think its her bring her trickster self plus her first step into change she desired so badly. She wanted to be free of her worm and its condition of always telling lies, but deep down shes always a liar at heart. What does one do when a god who lies now can tell the truth
I honestly thought that she was never even there and this whole thing was just to keep our focus away from her stealing the Light and Osiris was in the crystal the ENTIRE time.
So hyped for Dynasty, I always really enjoy your big projects, can tell a lot of love and effort goes into them. If the fact about Savathun holding Osiris in her throne world is true, it immediately brings up the reveal trailer to me. The point where she says "Welcome back o' honored guest". Just thought worth mentioning.

I... Just love how Saint-14 came to the Dreaming City, how he used his Ward of Dawn to protect Mara, all of us, so we can fight and bring his Osiris back. He really puts himself outthere, and it's heartwarming. It's been wonderfull year, Beyond Light was a mastepeace. All whats left is to give Savathûn payback for Cayde, Dreaming City, Tower and everything else. She can shoot at me her Nova Bomb, but mine will be stronger.
Well, I agree completely with you but I’d say the seasons that followed Beyond Light are masterpieces, Beyond Light itself was just okay, it’s no Forsaken or Taken King, still enjoyed it though
The overall year was one of the best. Beyond Light was one of the weaker expansions, but three out of the four seasons were phenomenal. That’s a win for me.

I always thought it was weird to hear Byf pronounce Xivu as “She-voo” instead of just “Zee-voo” like most people do, but the contrast of hearing the NPCs pronounce it the latter way alongside Byf’s way within the same video is pretty funny to me

Watching all these lore videos and hearing towards the end the question "What happens with the worm" and here I am a year later laughing at that question because of how great the outcome is for the worm.
I really wish they would have kept the fact that sav. Lives thru this season making this a much more enjoyable twist in the story instead of us knowing that shes gets away from the beginning

With her worm removed savathun no longer needs to be cunning and lying to everyone to sustain it lest it consume her. I believe this is why she kept her word with returning osiris and though she may still have ulterior motives I feel the raid on the pyramid ship in witch queen is her helping us to prepare to fight the darkness, from which she would also benefit as its probably not too keen on the removal of her worm through which she was tied to it. /spinfoil hat

No. Savathun is responsible for the annihilation of countless species and endangering Humanity dozens of times. The Hive aren't to be worked with, they are to be purged.

Man you really are what spurred my love for Destiny. Played D1 and D2 up through Forsaken and never understood the lore and therefore never felt truly connected to the world. Thanks to all your videos done m back and loving everything in it. Really appreciate your time into all of this and connecting us to Destiny’s world.
There's one thing that bothered me as soon as I've done the mission on reset. Check Mara's expression at 16:05, when she talks about the worm. She looks downright diabolical, like her first(or whichever one) step of some grand plan has just succeeded. Was that just animation slip-up? I don't really think so. TBF, as this season went on and on, I started trusting Savathun more than I trust Mara. Is it far fetched to think that her intention was to get the Worm all along and she made us think she was going to kill Savathun? Perhaps she wanted to, but reinforced this as a prime motive to get us on board. Even the now memed scene where she pulls a knife out after shattering the crystal that seems stupid, could be just theathrics. Now, I know we see the Worm in the trailer, on Zavala's desk, but that's it. Maybe the Witch "Queen" is Mara after all, not our friendly neighborhood Savathun.(OK, this is just a joke).
Yeah her facial expression did make me blink a few times to make sure I was seeing it right. I wonder if she does have ulterior motives. Or maybe she's just on a high from having that power, seems to be reflected in her badass voice line about the worm gods being powerless against her retribution or something along those lines
I had the same thought. I think that Mara understood that Savathûn would most likely escape, but she did so anyways because she would at least get Savathûn's Worm. Which should know a lot about her schemes, such as how the Curse on the Dreaming City can be broken. If she could kill Savathûn, that would've been a bonus, but the Worm was the end goal all along.
I'm so glad we have Loremasters keeping track of this stuff; it never fails, every time there's a Destiny event with a very limited timer, I NEVER have free time to complete it. X(
the only thing my brain could focus on is the fact that saint wanted his face to be the first Osiris sees and the fact in the text, he calls Osiris his beloved. makes me happy to see they are still doing a good job to represent those two :)
A few things I had in mind: A. The Vex definitely have a few hundred years or so to think about when it comes to Saint's devotion to friends, as well. B. what better way for Savathun to trick us than the Queen of Lies do nothing but tell the truth entirely? When she does nothing but lie, doing nothing but keep her word is, in a way, a huge lie as well. C. Until I heard the recording and spoke with Mara (due to the bugs and what-not), I believed that she was never actually in the crystal itself and it was solely Osiris in there, and the entire season and our efforts in it was solely to distract us from her stealing the Light and perfecting her warping of it to her own forces. And with the worms, it's clear they can't survive without a host, and typical of Ghosts and their Guardians, one has to be dead to become a Guardian and wield the Light. So what better way to make all of her plans work than to die, wait until her worm dies without her, and then come back with her Ghost, solving both of her problems at once? Honestly, considering the B point, I wouldn't have minded either outcome being a thing because they both work considering Savathun and what she does.
Although he didn't have much real impact, it was pretty cool to see/fight Kelgorath one last time. Plus, his backstory and lore were really neat. Love having recurring villains within a seasonal narrative. Ah, I miss Siviks

Weird idea but what if Kelgaroth does come back but as that large Lucent Brood knight we saw in the reveal trailer recently, possibly he crawled back to Savathun and was given another chance to work under her as one of her hive guardians.
And with how Ghosts and Guardians go, it's entirely possible he gets resurrected and has no knowledge of serving Xivu-Arath anymore and once again serves Savathun since it's all he now knows.

How much you wanna bet that Savathûn used the very same Ley Lines for this ritual as a means of escape. She’s had a lot of time in the Ritual Chamber to observe how the Techeuns and Mara used them. That way she could use the Leylines to escape back to her Throne World in the Ascendant Plane. Remember, she not a stranger to using others powers to achieve her own ends.
It's probably how we get to the Throne World as well, keeping in mind some of Ikora and Mara's conversations about moving troops using them, and it being very clear it's not Ikora worried about the Darkness using them, but using them for Light forces.
Then the Eliksni would've been worthy of it fighting back the Vex in the City. Which honestly should've been the ending where Misraaks sacrifices himself for Saint then gets resurrected as a Guardian.
k! After playing the exorcism I had a blast. I guess i will go ahead and order witch queen. I play d2 very seldom these days but I am sure the pve part will be 🔥 so i am all in. I am sure pvp will suck like it has the last 2 years plus. So I have made peace with that part of the game. Great video by the way!!
I love that Savathun addressed Saint-14 first. She wasn't talking to Mara when she said "my love". Of course, Mara responded because everything is about Mara. I 500% support the theory that Savathun caught feelings for Saint-14 during her time as "Osiris".
I’m surprised nobody else is really focusing on the fact that she kept her word. Like she may have been the bad guy but she was under control of forces beyond her control. She wants to fight the same darkness we wish to fight. She is obviously worthy in the eyes of the light if she gains it. I believe all the negative stigma stems from the ego of the guardians, the ego of those who once held the mantle of the light. We want an enemy, we will get one. I hope our perception gets messed with in this dlc.
It is most interesting that although Mara has asked us to join the ritual of exorcism, she is only talking to Saint 14. She knows what it is like to lose a loved one and in her own twisted ways. She feels Saint 14 pain.
I find it pretty disappointing as how she outsmarted Mara We thought that Mara would kill her and Savathun's 4D chess move would be to have a plan and be revived by the traveler, as a guardian, but no, she simply used a trap card and teleported away :/ What a bummer

I wonder how Mara is keeping the worm alive and where it was sent to during the exorcism? Wouldn't be surprised if the worm plays a role in witch queen. Maybe provides intel or we use it to make the new exotic.
Now that Savathun has lost her worm, what is left to give her power? Why are we afraid of her? Or is it just because we know that she is now going to wield the light?
The only reason why she kept Osiris alive is so Saint wouldn’t mutilate and then eviscerate her, I feel like if that wasn’t the case then he would’ve been long dead by now, but this just shows her cunning, manipulation, and advanced planning skills, she’s not just a mindless slaughterer, she’s earned her title for a reason after all.
I'm thinking that sav is going to help us in the end. She's not going to be the raid boss in the coming days. And we'll find out why she's done what she's done.
All this not quite being pure enemies with Savathun makes me hopeful that it’ll be revealed that she was given the Light willingly, and that once we realize this, she will become a VERY tentative ally.
When you think about that then it kinda makes sense why she didn't need to trick us again with the Osiris... because she don't have a worm anymore thus she don't have the "urge" to trick to feed the worm. Yes, sure, she'll still be doing that but now I see it more like force of habbit that "the urge"
For a woman who was really looking forward to killing Savathun for her part in Uldren's death through Riven, Mara was surprisingly chill about being denied her vengeance. By the way, Byf, are you gonna cover the last entry in the Ripples lorebook? I'm a little confused about it, but I'm half-convinced that Mara's gone through some character development. I say half because, well, this is Mara we're talking about.
Decided to jump back into Destiny a few days before the new mission dropped, and it felt sooo organic to get the quest when I did. It was a great mission with a cool cutscene, and I can’t wait for the Witch Queen. I can’t believe I’ve been a part of this since launch day of D1. Now.. Let’s go kill another hive god. For Saint. For Cayde…For everyone. ✊🏼
Man I put 100 hours into destiny this last month and it’s awesome: I’m just sad to have missed out on so much context though. So many cool quests I’m glad I managed to avenge Cayde and get a Hawkmoon before this, but dang I want more legacy stuff.

Well, without the Worm, Savathûn looses her God like strength. A knife would've killed her but a gun would've been better.

Yeah, I remember thinking "damn, Xol wasn't close to that size when we fought it", but then remembered Xol was also the smallest of the worm gods.
I'm both excited and terrified to know how Xivu Arath fits into all of this. She's the most mysterious of the siblings at the moment, and she's clearly gaining more and more power while we're forced to deal with Savathun. I sort of wonder if the sisters have an under the table arrangement, if you will, that will show up later.
Like in Metal Gear Solid 5 where Big Boss, Ocelot, Zero and Miller all had an agreement to let Venom Snake(you, the player) believe they were the real big boss.
I've been saying for the longest that I believe her to be the most dangerous of all the sisters. She's brutal, efficient, and won't back down from a fight with anything or anyone. And she's in direct contact with the darkness now? Her raid is going to be something, I also have an idea where I believe Savathun won't ever be a direct enemy to actually kill.
@@_VXI she is i believe she destroyed caitl's homeworld and has conquered galaxies. Just think cabal's military forces being weak against something, they have the highest military prowess out there and them falling to xivu is a big one.
I am also very interested in the fact that Xivu Arath has been amassing an army because while there wasn’t necessarily an overwhelming number of threats in the final room of the mission it was a very high density for the size of it. And with kelgorath, the scorn and the taken ogre returning repeatedly to annoy us it sounds like they are just slowly amassing an army without losing anyone at all due to whatever form of resurrection they are using.
I know it said kill kelgorath one final time but honestly I don’t think that’s the last we saw of him rather with it meaning to kill him so we can finally end savathun (which we didnt)
If Xivu Arath gets too many forces this way it won’t matter how good we are, we won’t be able to defend the city from an endless army and help the people, thus losing the war really.

There's a problem. Savathun said "this construct protects me from those who wish me harm, from my worm's hunger" and even Petra said that savathun kept her promise to the letter. What if everything savathun said while she was in the crystal was actually the truth because her worm wasn't able to feed while she was encased.
The thing with that is old habbits die hard. Just because she kept to her word once doesn't mean much. Especially when it was a means to an end. She knows that everyone in the system wants her dead and her cunning is her best resource to keep her alive. She's good at it. Probably better than anyone else. Not to mention the worms chose deception and cunning for her because it was *already* her nature before they bound her to it. It's unlikely she's going to turn over a new leaf just because she can when she knows it won't help her.

I agree to take the queen of lies at her word for one instance isnt amazing, but it kind of is because her whole thing is deception. But since that's the case, wouldn't her telling the truth kind of be impossible for her to do? She wanted to show Crow the truth so he could come to terms with his old self, and he did. She said she would return Osiris alive for the exorcising of her worm. That's two ways she easily could have decieved us, but she kept her word and essentially gave us the best outcome. Crow could have resented everything but he seems to have adjusted well to his truth, and Osiris is alive. Not saying it's for sure, but it definitely raises some questions to me
@@erouse91 she is still our enemy, the truth in this instance was a calculated gambit for survival to put us off of our game so she could prepare her disappearing act she studied us as much as we studied her and with her last actions sows doubt in the hearts and minds of her enemies. An alliance of convenience and nothing more. The situation with Lahksmi-2 might have been solved peacefully if not for her whispering into that maniacs ear. Cayde’s death can ultimately be laid at her feet as well. And we see in all of these new bits of lore that she has something massive that will be a threat to everyone who isn’t her up her sleeve no she will not be our ally she is our greatest prey yet and this hunt will be glorious and it will be our most difficult yet as well. So steel yourself little light and remember the only truth you should keep close to your heart is that we defy our fate and break the chains of destiny.
Na man something is wrong with this. Caiatl is the leader of the cabal and is now our ally. Misraaks leads House Light and again was once our enemy. Now Savathun says that she wants to further fight the darkness once excised of her worm. While I'm not saying I trust her, something doesn't line up. Our enemies have become our allies before. All I'm saying is it seems to me like Bungie is setting up a rug pull moment.

Calling it now, witch queens twist will be that Savathun didn’t steal the light as Ikora believes but she was given it
My theories:
1) She doesn’t steal the light. It’s given to her. Savathun’s needed to die which is why she said thank you after the exorcism. That enabled her to be brought back with light.
2) The dreaming city curse and cycle from her Riven wish which allowed her to have an Ascendant Realm not tied directly to a Worm.
3) This allows Savathun to be brought back to life with the Traveler’s Light but her Darkness powers are still active due to the curse/wish that’s been growing in power for years.
1 is definitely the case. they've been pushing the whole argument of the battle not being between light and dark but between good and evil. the traveler is gonna have some explaining to do

Mara still can't accept that she's hugely responsible for what happened to her brother, I see. Honestly, I can't wait to see how this backfires on her.
Looking forward to Crow coming back after he’s come to terms with his past, then giving her hell for it.
Savathûn gains power from deceiving and misleading others. At this point everyone expected her to renege on her word and either kill or keep Osiris. Her returning him was the most unexpected outcome, and so by keeping her promise, she mislead us with truth.
I also love Mara saying that because she has Savathûn’s worm, Savathûn “did not escape unscathed.” As though that wasn’t obviously to her benefit, as well.
Savathùn will definitely use the fact that she upheld her end of the bargain as a gaslighting tool in our discussions with her in Witch Queen
it's interesting savathun swapped using Osiris, and not any kind of random hive. She might have more plans regarding this, or limitations maybe? Or she could have done it out of those sentimental feelings she was getting after posing as osiris.
My guess is that it is a delaying tactic. A brilliant one at that. Once she escaped, the Darkness would stop their pursuit and refocus. This would mean that, for at least a little bit, the entire vanguard would have their sight on her fair and square, and many reasons to go after her immediately, perhaps before she can inact the next part of her plan.
So she left us something we could not ignore. With Osiris being alive, but unconscious, saint would tie himself up with his recovery. Mara would be too busy investigating the worm to really care. Essentially, she took the road and left a landmine in the way. She very much know that leaving Osiris alive means that he could be an asset against her (if he isn't mind controlled or something) but she is aiming for a far grander goal.
Also, she loves to play in relativism. She leaves conflicting information all over the place to make sure the truth is as hard to figure as possible. As her trickster self, her single best contingency is to try and get our guardian to view her as both an enemy and an asset, therby paralyzing the very back and white judgement guardians ususally employ..
I think she truly wasn’t lying to us when she said she would give us back osiris in exchange for exorcising her worm. I think when she was in the amethyst, she was temporarily free or protected from her pact with the worm, finally able to tell the truth
Id like to think its her bring her trickster self plus her first step into change she desired so badly. She wanted to be free of her worm and its condition of always telling lies, but deep down shes always a liar at heart. What does one do when a god who lies now can tell the truth
I honestly thought that she was never even there and this whole thing was just to keep our focus away from her stealing the Light and Osiris was in the crystal the ENTIRE time.

I... Just love how Saint-14 came to the Dreaming City, how he used his Ward of Dawn to protect Mara, all of us, so we can fight and bring his Osiris back. He really puts himself outthere, and it's heartwarming.
It's been wonderfull year, Beyond Light was a mastepeace. All whats left is to give Savathûn payback for Cayde, Dreaming City, Tower and everything else. She can shoot at me her Nova Bomb, but mine will be stronger.
Well, I agree completely with you but I’d say the seasons that followed Beyond Light are masterpieces, Beyond Light itself was just okay, it’s no Forsaken or Taken King, still enjoyed it though
The overall year was one of the best. Beyond Light was one of the weaker expansions, but three out of the four seasons were phenomenal. That’s a win for me.

I always thought it was weird to hear Byf pronounce Xivu as “She-voo” instead of just “Zee-voo” like most people do, but the contrast of hearing the NPCs pronounce it the latter way alongside Byf’s way within the same video is pretty funny to me
There's still some pesky unanswered questions. What about that ahamkara egg in Mara Sov's care? Did anything fruitful come from Saint 14 and Misthax's quest aside from a few dead vex?
Watching all these lore videos and hearing towards the end the question "What happens with the worm" and here I am a year later laughing at that question because of how great the outcome is for the worm.
I really wish they would have kept the fact that sav. Lives thru this season making this a much more enjoyable twist in the story instead of us knowing that shes gets away from the beginning

With her worm removed savathun no longer needs to be cunning and lying to everyone to sustain it lest it consume her. I believe this is why she kept her word with returning osiris and though she may still have ulterior motives I feel the raid on the pyramid ship in witch queen is her helping us to prepare to fight the darkness, from which she would also benefit as its probably not too keen on the removal of her worm through which she was tied to it.

Man you really are what spurred my love for Destiny. Played D1 and D2 up through Forsaken and never understood the lore and therefore never felt truly connected to the world. Thanks to all your videos done m back and loving everything in it. Really appreciate your time into all of this and connecting us to Destiny’s world.
There's one thing that bothered me as soon as I've done the mission on reset.
Check Mara's expression at 16:05, when she talks about the worm. She looks downright diabolical, like her first(or whichever one) step of some grand plan has just succeeded. Was that just animation slip-up? I don't really think so.
TBF, as this season went on and on, I started trusting Savathun more than I trust Mara.
Is it far fetched to think that her intention was to get the Worm all along and she made us think she was going to kill Savathun?
Perhaps she wanted to, but reinforced this as a prime motive to get us on board. Even the now memed scene where she pulls a knife out after shattering the crystal that seems stupid, could be just theathrics.
Now, I know we see the Worm in the trailer, on Zavala's desk, but that's it.
Maybe the Witch "Queen" is Mara after all, not our friendly neighborhood Savathun.(OK, this is just a joke).
Yeah her facial expression did make me blink a few times to make sure I was seeing it right. I wonder if she does have ulterior motives. Or maybe she's just on a high from having that power, seems to be reflected in her badass voice line about the worm gods being powerless against her retribution or something along those lines
I had the same thought. I think that Mara understood that Savathûn would most likely escape, but she did so anyways because she would at least get Savathûn's Worm. Which should know a lot about her schemes, such as how the Curse on the Dreaming City can be broken. If she could kill Savathûn, that would've been a bonus, but the Worm was the end goal all along.
I'm so glad we have Loremasters keeping track of this stuff; it never fails, every time there's a Destiny event with a very limited timer, I NEVER have free time to complete it. X(

the only thing my brain could focus on is the fact that saint wanted his face to be the first Osiris sees and the fact in the text, he calls Osiris his beloved. makes me happy to see they are still doing a good job to represent those two :)
It’s kind of the point of their relationship though.
A few things I had in mind:
A. The Vex definitely have a few hundred years or so to think about when it comes to Saint's devotion to friends, as well.
B. what better way for Savathun to trick us than the Queen of Lies do nothing but tell the truth entirely? When she does nothing but lie, doing nothing but keep her word is, in a way, a huge lie as well.
C. Until I heard the recording and spoke with Mara (due to the bugs and what-not), I believed that she was never actually in the crystal itself and it was solely Osiris in there, and the entire season and our efforts in it was solely to distract us from her stealing the Light and perfecting her warping of it to her own forces. And with the worms, it's clear they can't survive without a host, and typical of Ghosts and their Guardians, one has to be dead to become a Guardian and wield the Light. So what better way to make all of her plans work than to die, wait until her worm dies without her, and then come back with her Ghost, solving both of her problems at once? Honestly, considering the B point, I wouldn't have minded either outcome being a thing because they both work considering Savathun and what she does.
Was wondering why the cutscene got skipped for me. Thought it was kinda weird that we did the mission in a squad. Quite the oversight.
I liked it being part of a squad, but the cutscene being skippable by one dude is awful.
Although he didn't have much real impact, it was pretty cool to see/fight Kelgorath one last time. Plus, his backstory and lore were really neat. Love having recurring villains within a seasonal narrative. Ah, I miss Siviks

Weird idea but what if Kelgaroth does come back but as that large Lucent Brood knight we saw in the reveal trailer recently, possibly he crawled back to Savathun and was given another chance to work under her as one of her hive guardians.
I thought that too, especially based on the trailer with the IRL person talking to Ikora and Eris.
And with how Ghosts and Guardians go, it's entirely possible he gets resurrected and has no knowledge of serving Xivu-Arath anymore and once again serves Savathun since it's all he now knows.

How much you wanna bet that Savathûn used the very same Ley Lines for this ritual as a means of escape.
She’s had a lot of time in the Ritual Chamber to observe how the Techeuns and Mara used them.
That way she could use the Leylines to escape back to her Throne World in the Ascendant Plane.
Remember, she not a stranger to using others powers to achieve her own ends.
It's probably how we get to the Throne World as well, keeping in mind some of Ikora and Mara's conversations about moving troops using them, and it being very clear it's not Ikora worried about the Darkness using them, but using them for Light forces.
What if Savathun keeping her word to give back Osiris was what allowed her to be “worthy” of the light?
Then the Eliksni would've been worthy of it fighting back the Vex in the City. Which honestly should've been the ending where Misraaks sacrifices himself for Saint then gets resurrected as a Guardian.
k! After playing the exorcism I had a blast. I guess i will go ahead and order witch queen. I play d2 very seldom these days but I am sure the pve part will be 🔥 so i am all in. I am sure pvp will suck like it has the last 2 years plus. So I have made peace with that part of the game. Great video by the way!!

Of all season finale missions for Beyond Light, this one was thee most exciting.
I’m surprised nobody else is really focusing on the fact that she kept her word. Like she may have been the bad guy but she was under control of forces beyond her control. She wants to fight the same darkness we wish to fight. She is obviously worthy in the eyes of the light if she gains it. I believe all the negative stigma stems from the ego of the guardians, the ego of those who once held the mantle of the light. We want an enemy, we will get one. I hope our perception gets messed with in this dlc.
Perhaps the reason Bungie didn't vault the Dreaming City is because we get to see its curse broken in the Witch Queen or a future season

It is most interesting that although Mara has asked us to join the ritual of exorcism, she is only talking to Saint 14. She knows what it is like to lose a loved one and in her own twisted ways. She feels Saint 14 pain.
Anybody else feel like Mara has a purely ceremonial role in everything the Techeuns do? Even the first time in the Taken War, she just passed out.

OH MY GOD! When Mara says Let that be the end of it, Regicide plays from TTK, albeit changed to fit Savathun more.
The only reason why she kept Osiris alive is so Saint wouldn’t mutilate and then eviscerate her, I feel like if that wasn’t the case then he would’ve been long dead by now, but this just shows her cunning, manipulation, and advanced planning skills, she’s not just a mindless slaughterer, she’s earned her title for a reason after all.

Decided to jump back into Destiny a few days before the new mission dropped, and it felt sooo organic to get the quest when I did. It was a great mission with a cool cutscene, and I can’t wait for the Witch Queen. I can’t believe I’ve been a part of this since launch day of D1. Now.. Let’s go kill another hive god. For Saint.
