There are many key moments at which their feud put them in keen opposition. Rhulk has always hated the Witch Queen.

Rhulk's major flaw that the witness saw to replace him with a better disciple was that he could not be inconsequential. He always had to be the purpose, to always be relevant. He could never get rid of wanting relevance.
In the witness there is no relevance, and even as Rhulk calls everything, including himself, inconsequential, it isn't until the guardians raid his pyramid ship that he realizes truly what it means to be inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, to be so useful and useless at the same time, a pawn, and a great leader. And I think he finally reconciled after Savathun's betrayal, that his existence meant next to nothing to the Witness as their existence meant to him.

Rhulk is easily the most interesting character that we've actually seen in game so far, PLUS he was a huge surprise (i thought bungo would be lazy again and just throw in a scorn final boss)

I think he definitely spoke to the Witness in the past and maybe he did at some point even after being stationed in Savathun’s Throne World, but I imagine since returning to it after the failure discussed in this video, he hadn’t heard anything from the Witness in a while and just has what are essentially voice memos addressed to the Witness but are just him thinking out loud or something.
I think when he was recruited and was more active he spoke with the Witness, but since then the Witness probably never bothers with him anymore and has more important things to deal with.

Given Oryx's introspective nature I wouldn't be surprised if he reached out to both his siblings just before the end. For what ever reason. Also Rhulk almost comes across as a witness super fan who is so engrossed in his relationship with the witness that he doesn't realize how much he might not actually be in his inner circle, at least anymore.
A lot of people seem to be thinking this in multiple comment sections, but I think it could be a different situation
I believe Rhulk to be within the witness's inner most higher circle, but that being said, I believe him to be with very little contact with the witness since Lubrae.
He is very clearly at the top, however never gets much of the information, and that is because the witness told him that he is to be wrath
And wrath doesn't need to know what its destroying or why it is sent
Since the witness knows of Rhulks undying loyalty to the cause, he also knows that giving no answers would let Rhulk pick at his own brain and bring himself to be more wrathful, in an attempt to wrap his head around his own Witness, and the witness actually does agree with this course of things, albeit without communication

I think In regards to the books of sorrow, when the three siblings went their separate ways it didn't mean they never spoke again, it meant they just took their armies in sperate ways rather than always fighting together. Just like in real life when siblings move away fromt he family home, they probably kept in touch, just less frequently and more to pass on news then work together. We already have evidence the siblings were still on contact or at least occasionally interacted thanks to the Cabal and both Savathun and Zivu Arath playing parts on the fall of the empire.
Also savathun said that she and oryx talked right before king’s fall and she told him that he would die and he said he was glad to

Honestly, before I saw his lore I thought he looked like one of the lamest scorn enemies but knowing what he actually is now completely turned me around
I just gotta say, before WQ I didn't follow the lore all the much. Now with that said, I've started to look way more into the lore than I ever have, an damn am I glad I did. The lore tied to this raid has actually been some of my favorite so far in the small time I've actually been reading/watching lore/lore videos.
I just gotta say, i quit destiny after rise of iron then started again at D2; then quit again right when season of opulence released- but i still follow the lore because this is the second most interesting video game on the market even though i dont play
This set of lore seems more cohesive than a lot of previous lore. I'm enjoying it a lot.
I kid you not i always love destiny's lore, it's just mysterious, interesting and at the same time annoying as hell considering the variation for the narrative itself. Sometimes my friend who doesnt engange in lore that much asks me few things but after WQ has been released, they seems to be more interested in the lore now and i feel proud that people has taken the lore seriously now
Reading the passive-agressive interactions between him and Savathûn was one of the most entertaning lore from the raid armor imo. In fact, my headcanon is that Rhulk took the opportunity to be as much as an obstructive bureaucrat as he could with Savvy, like

With everything happening right now, I wonder where the Vex stand in all of this. They seem too important/smart to not play some kind of role.
Vex are a weird faction.
Of the non superpowered stuff, they have by far the largest armys, best tech, and strongest superweapons. They would undoubtedly be the winners in a strictly casual universe.
But all they are is some very smart and old robots. They are, best as we can tell, a remnant of the flower game played by the winnower and the gardener before the universe was created, the simple repeating pattern that it always ended at. But nothing more than that.
Us guardians, the traveler, the witness, rhulk, the black fleet, even the hive, we are paracausal. The hive can never win against us, they are almost nothing to the black fleet, because paracausal powers will always beat out the causal ones the vex have. Usually they try to avoid us as much as possible, knowing that they cannot best the powers of the light.
@@Santisima_Trinidad The bit where the Vex are remnants of what came before T=0 is incredibly important. The Winnower (the Witness/the Darkness) mentioned that the Gardener (the Traveler/the Light) was the one who wanted to change the rules. The Vex embody the pinnacle of the original rules of the game of the universe, before the two entities became pieces in that game. Therefore, the Vex are the embodiment of the Sword Logic. The Vex are probably the closest we can approximate to the original Final Shape.
@@Santisima_Trinidad this is mostly right but the vex are not causal they are acausal meaning that they can ignore some laws if the universe like time and it’s different than being paracausal which takes the laws and breaks them like taking nothing and turning it into a shield
Well Pradeth and I think Osiris have said The Vex only serve the pattern but now the Sol Divisive and I think whats left after Season of Drifter we know follow Xivu and the Darkness after we defeated Quria. I was hoping to hear how Rhulk maybe changed the pattern of survival .
@Morgan Null well they in a way use sword logic with out serving either the entities or there agents . As the pattern is time travel and editing the time line of those that threaten them . So I wander how the Sol Divisive got brainwashed to serve the Darkness . Aswell as Savathun lost the power to take the Vex when we beat Quria she said that in season of Lost. So its said some where that they under Xivu and the Darkness maybe the Witness/ Rhulk
This whole arc of Savathûn getting back at the Rhulk and playing him is amazing. I would like to think that even though she is a trickster, she’s smart enough to take the light and maybe learned something that will give us insight against the witness in the future.
Byf I am a huge fan of the playlists! Just for the sake of being able to search for a topic and having everything in order is helpful.
I would highly enjoy a scene of Crow and Eris arguing over the treatment of the hive.
The thing that scares me about Rhulk is that he is not just another monster we face, he is a legit person, and on top of that a scary one.

I feel like Rhulk, the fallen and the cabal are the best enemies because they have something worth fighting for. They're not mindless, it's just that Rhulk had morals that he went against time to time to the point where (I assume) he became desensitized bringing him to destroy Lubrae for absolute power
I feel like the raid needs its own playlist. They basically crammed a whole third story into everything else we have seen since witch queen launched

I do wonder: is there a chance Savathun was actually affected emotionally by her brothers death? I mean, even though it was partly due to Crota supplying Oryx with power, there certainly were emotions of a grieving father that affected his decision to go into Sol seeking revenge.
Its likely. The books of sorrow detail that the siblings still loved each other despite killing each other/working against each other (according to the sword logic thos was their way of showing love, cuz they were pushing each other to get stronger).
Before they were the hive gods the 3 sisters were a pretty normal family till their dad went nuts. And after they became gods the books of sorrow also mention that they were genuinely freaking out to each other over a "oh god what have we done?" sorta feeling. Though less that they were galactic murderers and more that they realized the worms inside them demanded more death than they could supply for a while there (before the tribute system). I think they really did worry about what was going to happen to each other if they couldnt actually keep up.
To kill is to love in hive customs. Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu killed eachother as a means of understanding death as a whole. The guardians even have a form of this. They are an order of guardians that study death known as the thanatonauts. They would die and experience visions and be able to manipulate light through death. Back in D1 sunsingers could self res because of their findings. But back to the hive. You kill to show love to your God, the gods kill eachother and destroy everything to show love to the deep and eachother. To kill is the highest form of respect and to die is to prove your place in the universe, which is also sacred to the hive. Oryx actually respects guardians to a huge degree. He isn't so much upset at the death of Crota as he understood that if something is more powerful than his son he must challenge them by the laws of sword logic. He revered the guardians' power and planned the construction of Touch of Malice so in case he was felled. He would entertwine with the Guardians' "final shape". he lives on in the weapon. Tithing endlessly on our success with anything killed by the weapon. He is happy to be a part of the final shape. Using Touch of Malice is you showing your love of Oryx's values, and he repays you in turn by healing you, and give you an incredibly powerful weapon fueled by pure sword logic. Sorry this was long winded. The hive have amazing lore.
I say a Rhulk/Vow of the Disciple Playlist would be very helpful. He is so interesting and the Vow of the Disciple has more lore behind it than the other raids
You ever notice how Savathûn’s (in the Resonant bond lore) refers to the Witness as a being with multiple selves?
If she is speaking truth in her rebuke (which is always difficult to ascertain), then that opens up a lot of possibilities.
For instance, it could be The Witness is the current, chosen avatar of The Winnower/Darkness/The Deep. It is not the Winnower itself per say, but the Winnower’s “player character”.
Especially if we look to the Unveiling book. The Gardener adding it and the Winnower to the Flower Game, means they may have created avatars to represent them in said game which became cosmos.
If my speculation is correct, the Traveler (or the being residing within it) is an avatar of The Gardener while the Witness is an avatar of the Winnower.
It also means as avatars, they can be effected by the events or subjects within the game.
Addendum: If the Traveler or The Witness are defeated, I don’t think it would be the end of the Light or Darkness respectively. Rather, it would be the direct influence of either them being negated in the cosmos.
I absolutely love this theory and how it works, and I think it makes a lot of sense, including the fact that the witness used to be mortal.
She also said the witness isnt the Darkness but some one who wears it like a cloak. Gives a wicked and vile shape i think too. Also with WQ lore we know the Krill were lied to by the Witness/ Rhulk and The Darkness/ Deep as the Traveller was going to choose them. Things have become more grey then we thought

Consider it like this: Our Guardians are the representation of the players in Destiny. They are not the players per say, but they representations of us under our direct control.
The same can be said for the Witness. It is the Winnower’s avatar. Notice how she says “gives it a wicked and vile shape” which says it can control the Darkness at will. More so than any other being in the game.
If I am correct, it doesn’t mean Darkness isn’t a neutral or even necessary force per say (same with the Light). But that the Witness as the Winnower’s avatar is the strongest, direct wielder and source of this power.
Having related videos in a playlist is always nice to have. Making it very easy to navigate towards a specific group, rather than hunting each video down. Very much appreciated!

Savathun practiced Sword Logic, so I would assume that at all times she was trying to best or even destroy Rhulk. This is just the nature of the logic. I think this preempts any beef she has with him being her watcher, at least up until the point she decides to betray them. We're going to be in for a treat when we realize we're the perfect disciple. Defeated every opponent. Destroyed Gods. We're the perfect definition of Sword Logic. Maybe not the guardian per se, but the players behind our guardians, definitely. Architects of the final shape.
if your going over her early moments i hope you speculate about the wellspring a bit it seems like she seemingly set up a massive fount of power that’s still going on despite her death all with only the light something we have access to making it possible for us to copy her work

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Savathun wasn't in contact with her siblings directly but was still keeping tabs on them from the shadows, only contacting Oryx that one time possibly because she knew it would be the last chance she would get.

Love these videos! Please add another about the raid ghost shell lore. I’m curious as to what you think about Rhulk’s willingness to accept light from the lost ghost, the Traveler’s assumed direct communication through the ghost to Rhulk, and the ramifications of learning that the Traveler can “override” a ghost’s choices and self-destruct even in the darkest of places like his Pyramid. So that just further confirms that Immaru wasn’t rogue but acting with some level of blessing from the Traveler.
Rhulk is certainly something else. No matter how he's involved, it's always fascinating to read or listen to.

I remember when I heard people speculating the raid was gonna have Scorn enemies, I was a little disappointed since I really don’t care for them much, if at all.
But Rhulk is so fascinating and all this Darkness and Hive lore is exactly what I want from these expansions. This is the kind of stuff I was dying for in Shadowkeep and Beyond Light, but we hardly got anything back then.
One of the Alter of Reflections. Savathun questions the sword logic, asking that once you've destroyed everything else, what life is there to live.

Another great and interesting video. I don’t know if it is just my audio, but your voice is usually a tad quieter than all other audio, be it cutscenes or ads that play throughout the video. If this is the case for others, may I suggest adjusting the audio by 1-2 dB in the editing process?

I love these lore tales of certain interesting characters in Destiny 2. I wish I was good enough to complete the Vow of Disciples raid and complete these lores myself.

I know I'm late, but I started watching specifically for raid lore. Having Playlist for different parts of the lore sounds great. Segmenting by season, raids, expansions, and such.
I love the video, but I have one technical notion. Is the sound very quiet for anyone else? Compared to previous videos the audio seems very swallow in the latest few video's.

With Destiny 2’s newest Witch queen season the story has really stepped up in game. Kudos Bungee, seriously.
Losing Cayde has been rough for the storyline. It’s the one reason someone like myself began playing the game in the first place and I find myself still hopeful of his return. I look forward to next season and welcome a new perspective that somehow brings some justification as to why this great character has lost historical value.

Hello Byf I am a fan of both Destiny and your videos but due to a hard schedule I am unable to keep myself up to date on Destiny both lore and gameplay wise so I would highly appreciate in any given time if you could do a very long video like the Destiny lore recap before Destiny 2 or some dlc I don’t remember, it was great! And as time passes it would very much help me understand what has happened since I stopped playing
Making a playlist would be useful for people that are new to the channel and even new to destiny it would help them in looking for information on the lore of the new raid and show them where to look
