  • In todays video I am reviewing my Atom Packs - The Atom, a lightweight 40L backpack. The pack I purchased from Atom Pack was a custom pack, meaning it was made to my preferences. It is an amazing pack, it is perfect for a day hike or short backpacking trip, and could even be used on longer trails if you are minimalist and lightweight in your packing.

Just got a 35L Atom. I have been using an Osprey but fancied a change. Love it. I have the padded waist-belt as I have a back problem and need to keep the weight on my hips. The stretchy pockets on the shoulder straps are excellent.

I had a custom Mo40 last year made in bright blue and white with an orange stripe on the bottom. Long enough roll up top that I think you can make it a 50+ for extra clothes and food. I've only done 100 miles, but 2024 spring is around the corner.

You were more creative than me. I'll be taking mine into Europe during March and April so should get plenty of use out of it this year. Good luck with your trips 👍

Buy the bigger pack. You need it and you know you do.

Hi there, Nice and comprehensive review, can you please tell me the height of the Atom 40L when it is fastened and fully rolled down as far as it will go? I can't seem to find that info anywhere. Reason being I'm torn between getting the 30L or the 40L. Cheers.

Atom Packs have great customer service so go on their website and ping them a question. Or you can arrange to have a chat. Their base is near Keswick and they say they are happy to have visitors.

The 30L Atom RE30 looks a good choice for a winter daysack that I need to replace my non water resistant heavy Lowe Alpine with.
I think that you can buy an add-on waist belt for your Atom 40?
    Cheers 👍

I agree. You definitely need to buy one. I definitely need to buy the waist belt too.

@@matryderreviews well if I can get Mrs Paddler to start overnight hillwalking then I'd certainly buy it as it would then have dual use, giving it better vfm.
If she doesn't comply then I'll probably just buy it anyway in my next comfort-buying session. Usually a Tuesday.

That makes perfect sense to me. Can you let me know when you get it and I'll allow myself to buy the waist belt too...

@@matryderreviews it does indeed and I certainly will, you've got a deal 🤝
I'd be buying the padded waist belt too, you're welcome to try it out for size before you commit to your own.

Cheers Tony. That would be useful. We'll sort something out in the summer.
