Love how you said it was going to do it without zigzagging the edge and how the first hit would re direct the fracture but it didn’t and you made it out like it did what you wanted lmao and the way it came off is exactly how zig zagging goes

I fetched a Petrified A-Corn under a Standing & Living Oak Tree in the year of the LORD 2019 A.D. & it looks nothing like the Tennis Ball;^D What do ya think about that^!!^

I knap in a similar style. Can I ask if you have ever pulled your elbow from missed swings? I have hurt mine so bad I could not open a bottle. I know missing the edge is better than a bad strike, for the rock, but not my arm lol. I'm looking into a brace and I use indirect more now. THANKS FOR YOUR WORK!!

Sorry that's happening to you. No, I've not had that happen, but I do have a theory why it's happening. If your not following through on your swing and you try to stop the momentum in mid swing it could cause a lot of stress on you elbow. when I swing (whether I hit or miss) my right hand hits my right leg at the end of the swing and acts as a shock absorber. It does sting a little though, but a pad would help to prevent that. Also, it might help to record youself knapping and see what your form looks like.

I'm new to this so I'm pretty crusty. I make the edge look like it's stacked in layers. What should I do to stop this?

There are several reasons that could causes that to happen, so many in fact that it is impossible to say for sure without seeing you knap or knowing the material your knapping. Some possible causes could be bad platform setup, hitting at or above center line, hitting at a bad angle, or a combination. The best advice I can give you is keep practicing and experiment with different angles.

I mostly pick it up out of creek beds, but occasionally I'll buy it from ebay.

there are also other rocks that are like a flint substitute, just try the rocks you see on the floor, any rock can be turned into a arrowhead if it's not concrete
