I had a date once that went delulu soooo quickly she literally almost killed us both. Was set up with this girl in my early 20, and went out on a date with her. The date was fine, nothing special and not horrible. She seemed interested enough we already said we’d see each other again. I was driving her back home on this dark curvy road going around 60 kmh. Suddenly she reached for the hand brake and pulled hard, we screeched and swerved to a frightening stop. I was in shock and perplexed, and thought I must have almost hit someone, I mean there must be some reasonable explanation for someone to out of the blue reach and pull the hand brake mid drive. Nope I was wrong, she said it was a test and she wanted to see how I acted under stress. I immediately ordered her to exit my vehicle and Told her I wanted to see how she reacts under stress and she can find her own way home now.
I met my husband in an AOL 30-40 aged chat room way back in the days of dial up. I wasn’t looking for a date or a husband, just someone to talk to. He was in England and I in the US. I fell quickly and attempted to end it within a few weeks before any emotional disclosures because he was 5000 miles away. I wasn’t moving and I wasn’t asking him to. He wouldn’t let it happen. He was smitten. I knew he was going to marry me before he disembarked from the plane, but I let him lead the way and said nothing. We spent a total of 49 days in each other’s presence before marrying…9 months from that first conversation. We have 5 children and 2 grandchildren are are still in love. I think the lack of physical contact helped to build that bond before meeting. My husband and I met in person but didn't get time alone for weeks but we did talk all the time. That built such a strong connection that we still have 13 years later!
When I met my husband I thought he was a mute lol. People still ask me if he is a mute. He's not, he's just shy. But he at least MADE the effort to show me he was interested. He even made me a prom because I missed mine. We had our closest friends with us; there was music, white Christmas lights, and great food. We've been together almost 20 years now. :)

OMG, the amount of anxiety it gave me for Charlotte to ask whether you should be bringing pepper spray on online dates. You should always have self defense on you as a woman, period. Unfortunately in Canada it is illegal to carry things like pepper spray however, you can always carry a small can of hairspray. Someone did some research and responded to me that it is legal to carry a knife in Canada however, my concern would be that he might overpower you and take the knife away from you and use it on you but I would definitely use the hairspray
Context is important-It's illegal in some places (like Canada) so you just can't have it. So her response makes sense. If you are legally able to Carry it, then bring it. Always meet in public/busy places and be aware of your surroundings and always have an emergency excit plan.

I became single in my early 40's after many years of marriage and learned quick that the "new" way of meeting people was online dating. I could do 2 hour video full of hysterically bad first dates 😂 I often got, "oh wow, you look just like your pictures!" This puzzled me at first! Of course I do, I took pictures and posted them (I learned later that many people use old photos or filters). Which, lucky for them I have manners because I can't tell you how many times I wanted to reply, "um, but you don't!". I'm a semi-redneck from Texas, but not in the racist intolerant way 😉. Most Texans are cool, kind people, they just don't tend to make the news like the ones who embarrass us! I had pepper spray on my keychain and made sure it was noticeable on a first date. I also carry a knife in my pocket, but that's mostly so I've always got some tools handy. It's helped me in so many unexpected occasions! Like the time I went camping and no one thought to bring a can opener. I used my Swiss Army knife and the P-38 I keep on my keychain. Heck, I could have used the pepper spray to season the burgers! (JK) In my 20s, me and friends spent a lot of time at the lake and there were many opportunities to need a tool, like when Bubba got a hook caught in his arm. Never used the pepper spray. I think my tomboy redneck personality was enough to make me too unappealing for a guy to try anything. Years later I learned about asexuality and realized it fits me to a T. Looking back at how un-sexy I was (am), I think others may have caught that drift even if they didn't know what an ace is either!

Maybe I'm just old and paranoid, but for a first date, it's ALWAYS going to be a 'travel separately and meet at a public spot' sort of affair. I don't get naked on a first date anyway, so it's a safe(r) approach.
We taught our daughters, now 23 & 25, to ALWAYS drive themselves to a restaurant or cinema for a date. They also got their first mace key chain in secondary school. Santa puts a new one in their stocking each year. Now that the 23 year old is a card carrying CCW with a beautiful pew pew, as well as a black belt, we don’t worry about her. The oldest is another story altogether! Scary.

Many years ago (before my wonderful husband) I went on a date with this sweet, handsome, smart, and dare I say it, wealthy guy. He looked at me like I was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, but he hardly said anything. I carried that whole damn date! He asked me out again, and I just couldn’t bear the thought of having to have an unending conversation with myself, so I shot him down. Looking back, I’m realizing he was just SUPER nervous. As bad as I feel, I met my amazing husband a couple weeks later, and that guy now has a beautiful family as well. I think the universe was helping both of us get what we truly needed.

In some environments when using traditional pepper spray the user can be affected by the spray as well, due to small spaces or wind blow back, etc. Pepper spray GEL comes out in a more viscous form (like a spicy silly string) so while your precision has to be a bit more accurate to be effective, you have much less chance of being inadvertently sprayed as well. 🖤⚔️ Get home safe, love all y’all.

Some stories remind me of my personal experience: I met a girl with whom I exchanged a few messages.When we set up a date and time I barely hear from her (but this is something I notice: Some people don't message until the actual date to still have subjects to talk about). She lived in a town 40 minutes away. On the date we walk through the city and I am asking questions and she just replies by listing her answers and only asks "And what about you?" Then after about 30 minutes she suddely says: "Sorry but I want to be alone. I have some business to do in the city. It was great meeting you" and hugged me at the end. I was confused but: OK. The same night she said that she likes me and said sorry it ended abrupt, as she is barely in the city. A day or so later she messaged me. I replied the same day or the day after with a question. She replied ... 2 months later says to my question: "I don't remember, it was so long ago." I guess you can imagine that I never met her again.

I find that man to be VERY attractive! I love a good conversation and his style is conducive to that. Great way to learn about someone new. I had a boss back in the early 80s who was from India, and he was the best boss ever. Funny too. I went out with his visiting nephew for awhile but it was platonic. Had a great time and loved hearing him talk about his country and culture and never worrying that he was going to be creepy. He was going to be married soon to the girl he had been betrothed to since childhood. Fortunately, they knew each other well as they grew up together, and loved each other. She was gorgeous (he carried her pic) and I loved the way his eyes lit up when he talked about her. I love the Desi accent. My boss used to exaggerate his just to get us laughing. One day, something went wrong, not a big deal, but it was going to cost time to fix. I used a phrase my dad often said in such occasions, "Oh no! What a revolting development!". Mr. Mohinder said, "What did you say? A rewolting dewelopment?" From then on if mistakes were made, he never got mad, he'd say "We do not want any rewolting dewelopments! with a big grin.

We sadly are way past the point of needing pepper spray. Not even just dates, even Uber drivers have been known to keep women in the cars and pass the drop off points. Human trafficking isn’t just kids…. Women are being grab walking home from work. Carry what you can to save yourself. Also I heard someone who was familiar with this topic say fight as dirty and hard ax you can, bite, poke eyes, scream as loud as you can because if they get you in a vehicle to take you to another location you will never be seen again. You at that pony know too much and are not getting away. So fight don’t be polite don’t go along thinking it will keep you safe to obey them. It won’t. And if you do somehow get away later on the trauma you will have is not ok. So FIGHT. FIGHT. I hate knowing how bad this world can be. I just lost my husband last year so my safe person to walk with and be with is gone. And where I had to move is by our local collage and every year so many stories of kidnapping, assault and rape. It’s real. It can happen to anyone. No matter what you look like or your age. BE SAFE. And also know there are amazing beautiful people on this planet also…… don’t live in fear but live with the right knowing to keep living on this beautiful planet.
This! Just last year, a human trafficker tried to booby trap my sister’s car in the Walmart parking lot. This is why I plan to apply for my conceal carry permit. The reality is that a man can kill a woman with his bare hands. We must even the playing field. If I’m fighting for my life, my attacker will perish. Period. I think the lack of physical contact helped to build that bond before meeting. My husband and I met in person but didn't get time alone for weeks but we did talk all the time. That built such a strong connection that we still have 13 years later!

I had pepper spray on my keychain and made sure it was noticeable on a first date. I also carry a knife in my pocket, but that's mostly so I've always got some tools handy. It's helped me in so many unexpected occasions! Like the time I went camping and no one thought to bring a can opener. I used my Swiss Army knife and the P-38 I keep on my keychain. Heck, I could have used the pepper spray to season the burgers! (JK)

We taught our daughters, now 23 & 25, to ALWAYS drive themselves to a restaurant or cinema for a date. They also got their first mace key chain in secondary school. Santa puts a new one in their stocking each year. Now that the 23 year old is a card carrying CCW with a beautiful pew pew, as well as a black belt, we don’t worry about her. The oldest is another story altogether! Scary.

Many years ago (before my wonderful husband) I went on a date with this sweet, handsome, smart, and dare I say it, wealthy guy. He looked at me like I was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, but he hardly said anything. I carried that whole damn date!
He asked me out again, and I just couldn’t bear the thought of having to have an unending conversation with myself, so I shot him down. Looking back, I’m realizing he was just SUPER nervous. As bad as I feel, I met my amazing husband a couple weeks later, and that guy now has a beautiful family as well.
I think the universe was helping both of us get what we truly needed.
One I dated was a really shy guy and was really interested in hearing what I had to say, but did not really put much in about himself although I asked so many questions, he'd just give short answers. On the second date he got better so I thought he'd just open up, he was a nice guy in general. 3 months go by, I'm sick of of him saying what they had for lunch in the office instead of learning anything about his personality or values and I break it off. In some environments when using traditional pepper spray the user can be affected by the spray as well, due to small spaces or wind blow back, etc. Pepper spray GEL comes out in a more viscous form (like a spicy silly string) so while your precision has to be a bit more accurate to be effective, you have much less chance of being inadvertently sprayed as well. 🖤⚔️ Get home safe, love all y’all.

She lived in a town 40 minutes away. On the date we walk through the city and I am asking questions and she just replies by listing her answers and only asks "And what about you?" Then after about 30 minutes she suddely says: "Sorry but I want to be alone. I have some business to do in the city. It was great meeting you" and hugged me at the end. I was confused but: OK. The same night she said that she likes me and said sorry it ended abrupt, as she is barely in the city. A day or so later she messaged me. I replied the same day or the day after with a question. She replied ... 2 months later says to my question: "I don't remember, it was so long ago." I guess you can imagine that I never met her again.
In my opinion, being afraid of not having subjects to talk about is a huge red flag! How could she handle a relationship?

I had a boss back in the early 80s who was from India, and he was the best boss ever. Funny too. I went out with his visiting nephew for awhile but it was platonic. Had a great time and loved hearing him talk about his country and culture and never worrying that he was going to be creepy. He was going to be married soon to the girl he had been betrothed to since childhood. Fortunately, they knew each other well as they grew up together, and loved each other. She was gorgeous (he carried her pic) and I loved the way his eyes lit up when he talked about her.
I love the Desi accent. My boss used to exaggerate his just to get us laughing.
One day, something went wrong, not a big deal, but it was going to cost time to fix. I used a phrase my dad often said in such occasions, "Oh no! What a revolting development!".

Had to add for that girl with Will; don't give up! After a horrible, abusive relationship I had planned on being the cat lady but my friends set me up on a blind date that I did NOT want to go on! We sadly are way past the point of needing pepper spray. Not even just dates, even Uber drivers have been known to keep women in the cars and pass the drop off points. Human trafficking isn’t just kids…. Women are being grab walking home from work. Carry what you can to save yourself.
Also I heard someone who was familiar with this topic say fight as dirty and hard ax you can, bite, poke eyes, scream as loud as you can because if they get you in a vehicle to take you to another location you will never be seen again. You at that pony know too much and are not getting away. So fight don’t be polite don’t go along thinking it will keep you safe to obey them. It won’t. And if you do somehow get away later on the trauma you will have is not ok. So FIGHT. FIGHT.
I hate knowing how bad this world can be. I just lost my husband last year so my safe person to walk with and be with is gone. And where I had to move is by our local collage and every year so many stories of kidnapping, assault and rape. It’s real. It can happen to anyone. No matter what you look like or your age.

The reality is that a man can kill a woman with his bare hands. We must even the playing field. If I’m fighting for my life, my attacker will perish. Period. Better that than leave a predator alive who can lie about you and try to sue you for hurting them.

I went out on a date last November as I finally moved out my moms place and a friend told me I should put myself out there. The date was PERFECT! I mean perfect, we didn't want to leave each other.
