Raising prices usually does not mean more profit, because volume will immediately drop. Price rises are occurring because the market for bikes is thinning as enthusiasts age out of the market. The only way for bike makers to recover their costs, over fewer bikes sold, is to have a higher price for each bike. Unfortunately, the price rises cause sales to drop even further, which will then require even more price increases. That means a death spiral for mass-market motorcycles, unless somehow the 20-somethings put down the blue hair-dye, take out the nose rings, and grow a pair. You’re welcome.

Contacted a dozen dealers w/in 250 miles w a 2024 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT+. in stock; only 2 were willing to get aggressive on price. One didn't even bother quoting a price. I did buy one substantially less than the MSRP. in 12/2024.
I had a dealer 60 miles away and over a bridge once refuse to quote a price, but told me "come on down, and you won't leave disappointed." What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Hell no dude. You're selling bikes, not cursed monkey paws. It has a price, tell me or sit on it yourself.
A good report. I've been in the industry for over 40 years, and the Mfrs. keep trying to push BLING on us... expensive electronics and complex mechanisms not only raise the buying price, but also make servicing and parts pricey and difficult. You have to be nut to pay this crazy prices for a bike. I been riding a long time but this will be my last bike they have price themselves out of the market
For me it is a bit odd that you haven't mentioned KTM in this video for unsold units, when this company is facing hard finance impacts and facility closure due to low sales... Also on a previous email about motorcycles with very known issues never appeared crankshaft malfunction from KTM 🤔
One of my favourite auto journalists has a saying: "Whenever a dealer says something, look at the clock on the wall. It doesn't matter where the hands are pointing, it's bull5h!t O'clock". Jack of All Trades is absolutely correct.
I alway window shop motos online and been noticing the prices are looking good for the buyer right now. I was just attributing it to a winter slump. Even those smaller cc bike that they could keep in stock a year ago are abundant and the listing prices are lower. If they’re still having trouble moving these small cc bikes this summer by fall the 24 and 25 year models are gonna take an even bigger price dip. That will be the time to snag something for a great price.
Denver Colorado USA = motorcycle desert. Few dealers, most only get one of each model and we are usually the last ones to get them. Most dealers are selling previous years new models. New bike often move fast once the dealer gets them but they make little money since volume is so low. Price doesn’t matter here. You just cannot get what you want.
Too much high tech and prices to go along. Let's get back to simple bikes. Don't need rider modes or antilock brakes. Also lets get back to bikes that dont look like they came from a comic book.
Agreed to all but modern brakes have saved my limbs, if not my life, on a few occasions. All it takes is once. But to your point, I did a ride on a simple royal Enfield 650. Less was absolutely more. 👍🏻
I agree with older people driving newer vehicles with higher complexities and cell phones half of them. Don’t even know how to turn the lights down on low people just are inconsiderate on the road today.
You're going to compare the Tracer GT+ with the NC750X? I like both those bikes but they're not the same thing. One's a commuter and the other is a tourer. Honda's given up trying to sell NCs into both the Canadian and Australian markets. It's pretty tough sell when they sit beside the Transalp for about the same price. You talk about prospective Goldwing purchasers looking for something lighter and simpler. If someone doesn't want a grand touring bike they look for lighter and simpler. For someone who wants a grand tourer, the Goldwing will still be on most buyers short list. I would suggest that the latest version has some reliability issues that are probably hurting sales and that the grand touring machine as a category has fallen a bit into disfavour. My local BMW dealer has a few K1600s, some from the previous year on the floor but no GSes.
Your average house price in the USSA is over 400K. Cars are hovering in the upper 40s for a low budget vehicle. Go to the grocery store. I estimate food prices up 50%. In fact, everything has gone up except pay. People cannot afford to walk into an HD dealer and drop a min of 37K on a starter package. Then drop another 10K to get any kind of performance out of the bike. I actually saw a CVO cost at 64K. I busted out laughing. Then I go on cycle trader and look at what private owners think their bikes are worth. They don't seem to understand their bikes are worth at least 5 to 7K what they think they are worth. People think because their Honda Gold Wing only has 200 miles on the odometer but yet it is a 2022 is worth 23,900. So sorry. I would give them 19 tops.
in 2020 I found a 2018 DCT Tour for $21,000 with 0.5% interest rate so I couldn't pass it up. It has had two safety recalls. One has been fixed and the other will take months, maybe up to a year to fix so two recalls on this bike hurts their reliability image.
And just look at what dealers charge for destination, assembly, and doc fees. On top of that, many tack on overpriced BS add ons like battery and key replacement or some $500 “GPS theft Tracker”… which is nothing an Apple Air Tag can’t to for $25. You’re right, buy used, but use good sense because you can screwed on the used market too.
Yes, I was looking at a KTM300 Hard Enduro but 13,000€ for a two stroke trail bike seemed a ridiculous amount of money. Then I found a slightly used Rieju 300Pro for 7,000€ that had everything I wanted minus the complicated electronics. It was a no brainer and the Rieju is absolutely perfect .
Adv bikes are now the new middle age crisis when i personally gave up road bikes and went to an adv bikes in 2000 my mates were scratching there heads its a massive market now theres the shift right there cheers for upload
I haven't seen RT's last long locally. They are expensive. I don't think the HDs and Indians are worth it either, but prices for vehicles in general are a lot more than they need be. It's not only increased costs, but increased desire for higher margins.
interesting take on the m/c market. My thoughts are more is not necessarily better and most is not best. I've ridden BMW throughout my riding career. My first new Beemer was an R75/6 purchsed for $3100 US. Over the years (60) I've owned used BMWs and currently ride a 2009 K1300GT I purchased for $8500, it's new price was $23500! Service intervals are every 12000 miles, my last service was just shy of $600! I'd like to upgrade and onsidered a R1300RT but at $25K plus one of two option packages, the price tops $30K. Yamaha makes an FJ13oo with all the bells and whistles of my BMW for $18299. Some say it's outdated, I say it's proven technology with vastly larger dealer network and much more affordable service visits and probably my next ride. If Yamaha can do this others can too. More is not better.
There are around 450 gold wings for sale on cycle trader right this moment. I was going to buy one. Owners think they deserve at just below new prices for a bike that is already 3 or 4 years old just because it has low miles. JD Powers NADA dont care about miles. They value on year. I have not seen one priced below the top tier for retail value.
The dealers near me Rarely have these on the showroom floor If 1 shows up it is sold within a week I'm not sure where they're getting data about all the ones In the dealerships. Maybe its in California
Those proces makes me laugh! 😂 Here in Finland for example Tracer 9GT over 25000e, Ninja H2 SX 38000e, HD road glide 64000e, Gsx-s1000gx 23000e 1000r is even not at the pricelist..
Motorcycles have gotten too fancy for their own good. They are huge and complicated and expensive. They are for doctors and lawyers. Nevertheless, we need all kinds cause that's the way the world goes 'round.
When insurance and engineers drive design, manufacturers lose, so do we until idea of basic motorcycles come back! Tech is great but way to overdone for affordable maintenance and ownership for back up or just fun bikes!
they show a “s1000rr” with clipons touching the roof. It’s obviously an asian country that has models we’ve never heard of. Probably cost less than any western bike too.
Never hold on to my old motorcycle, bought it old, 24 years. Can never afford a new bike i like with those prices. Not without a big loan. Why would i do that. Nope
Here in Canada we can only dream of buying those bikes at those prices! A Honda Goldwing new is almost $40k and an Indian or Harley are easily over $50k….all for a limited use motorcycle.
New bikes are expensive. Need to bring back two-strokes, which are lighter, simpler, and cheaper. Four-strokes are heavier, more complex, and more expensive.
@@jamesgranberry8801 I currently own an ST1300, Goldwing's "little brother" and before that I rode the BMW K1600GT, RT's "big brother". Still the RT is to me best of both worlds, followed closely by the Goldwing in 2nd place.
I bought my 1250RT a month ago. Got a reasonable discount as they are expensive and times are tough. Very happy with it though. Hold onto that dream, brother!
Will I have a better time riding these £15-20k bikes than my £1500 Ninja 650? Yes. Will my enjoyment be 10 times more? Hell no!😂 I'm willing to bet these bikes wouldn't even double my enjoyment factor. Its easy to get caught up in all the latest power figures and gadgets, I've been there, but after 26 years of riding, I think the road you're riding and how you ride the bike are way more important than what you are riding when it comes to enjoyment.
I just sold my K1600B a few months ago. took 90 days on cycle trader. Great bike to ride and so much fun. Maintenance was expensive. and BMW will not sell a maintenance manual for their bikes. You are forced to pay a dealer 200 an hour to work on the bike. Last available manual was 2017. My bike was a 2021.
I’m paying for a bike not the glitzy showroom, heating and light bill. Never buy new anything. House, car, bike. Absolute con and people are finally waking up.
The whole motorbike industry is doomed, as in Europe starting 2035 only E-bikes can be registered. By then every conventional motorbike is worthless. If you then want a motorbike, you have to make a decision weather you buy a lightweight E- bike with a range of no more than 100km or a superheavy E-bike with acceptable range, but a price tag of more than 30.000 EUR and a weight exceeding 350 kg. And charging a motorbike takes at least 1 hour. So for a lot more money, you get much less fun and additional problems. Touring over mountain passes will be difficult, as there are no charging stations. I order to have an acceptable range you need to steadily cruise - a more sporty ride is not possible then as the range would decrease very fast. Why would anyone spend so much money for having half the fun? I don't see any chance that the problems of E-bikes will be solved in near future.
Hopefully they will see sense and exempt bikes given that used petrol/diesel cars are still going to be around for much much longer, it would kill the industry completely overnight for all but inner city commuting
Has anybody noticed how ugly and impractical todays machines are? During the 1960s and 70s the bikes were simpler, MUCH prettier in lovely colors. Now they are fitted with huge car engines which are impossible for the average biker to maintain without a computer, painted in dull boring matt 'colors' and no chrome plating whatsoever. Overweight and overpriced - no thanks
Those denim paint jobs are a challenge to maintain. If you get a scratch, you cannot buff out. In fact if you rub the paint to hard it turns into a shiny abrasion. Who on Earth ever thought those paint jobs were great? And to top it off, in 2024 Honda offer the Gold wind DCT in that nasty denim green which is super ugly. That was the only color offered for the non touring Gold Wing. I think the luggage rack is gawdy.
So all manufacturers have an average of 1000 bikes of each model on floor nation wide , thats not a lot. That shows you how tight money is right now. Feeding family, paying bills , is #1 priority . Hard to see past those huge fairings , how is that legal blocking vision then stick extra distraction screen in front of your face .
R1250RT high maintenance costs? Apart from being fantastically reliable, no big tourer is easier to maintain yourself. Parts are expensive, but they have a great reputation for not failing. Yet another click bait vid, this kind of rubbish does not reflect a real problem with the market, but actually creates a false image. I've had 8 BMW boxers in the last 30 years, and they are easy to live with, very reliable on the whole, so I get annoyed when I see vids like this.
he is talking about the "suggested maintenance" intervals in the service manual according to the dealer with paying dealer service costs, yes, expensive as hell, first 600 mile service is over 1000 if done at dealer.
I had several boxers and here, in Netherlands, the first service is usually around 225 euros. Thats like 250 USD. Not bad in my opinion. So maybe it's your dealership that's ripping you of...@@iheartwheelies
@@teamtempest844 I noticed that too, but unless you're dick swinging in the pub, or chasing tenths on a track, are you going to use and enjoy the Ducati enough to make it worth twice the price? I'm not sure.
Have absolutely no sympathy for for the greedy manufacturers, and garages. What do they actually think we do for a living to afford such high prices. You’d have to be a doctor, dentist, or pretty well off, to fork out £20,000 upwards for a motorbike, when you can buy a good car for less( I know there’s no difference) They had it coming, sooner or later. 🤔🤷🏽♂️🛵
A brilliant engine and chassis can go all for not if the bikes styling sucks. A restyle would make a slow selling unit a hot seller. One example is Honda's VFR1200. A really great bike that was ugly as fuck. Yamaha and Kawasaki should get away from the transformer look and get back to traditional styling.
I absolutely agree. Just look at what Royal Enfield have done. Bikes with good "real world" performance at a good price and that are easily and cheaply maintained. Value is relative, but it's hard to look past their offerings. 900,000 units last year. Go figure. They build bikes that people with real money in their wallets are prepared to pay for.
They (the motor industry) put up prices during the Pandemic, but then never fully lowered prices down again. They got greedy and need to discount aggressively if they are to win back sales.

That's why I still like Harley-Davidson even though they're underpowered. At least they don't look like George Jetsons air scooter.
@@wrongthinker350 I like Harley but they are priced pretty high for most of the population.
woahh we at least need abs for safety.
Agreed to all but modern brakes have saved my limbs, if not my life, on a few occasions. All it takes is once. But to your point, I did a ride on a simple royal Enfield 650. Less was absolutely more. 👍🏻
I would consider too that riding bikes is much more dangerous than 30 yrs ago.
I agree with older people driving newer vehicles with higher complexities and cell phones half of them. Don’t even know how to turn the lights down on low people just are inconsiderate on the road today.
I live in Austin. Used to live in a smaller (50K) town in New Mexico. This is absolutely true in these bigger cities.
Price is high, but zero interest loans, service contracts and routine maintenance will help to sell them.
Im seeing a lot of GSXRs at the track, great value for money!!!
I think that I can't afford any of these bikes.
Tech, labor costs, and a short-term, quarterly earnings mentality has raised prices as well. For example, BMW GS and RT vs anything by Royal Enfield.
I think to pay more than 10k for a bike is crazy.
The YamahaTracer GT+ is a very good selling bike in Europe!
THE ZERO IS 20K OVERPRICED
Yes all the reasons given here were nonsense except one, price
Insurance is ridiculous in the USA.
in 2020 I found a 2018 DCT Tour for $21,000 with 0.5% interest rate so I couldn't pass it up. It has had two safety recalls. One has been fixed and the other will take months, maybe up to a year to fix so two recalls on this bike hurts their reliability image.
Why buy new? So many great deals on used. Its unbelievable.
I've been looking at a lot of motorcycles lately and I'm seeing a lot of really nice early 2000s models for under 3 Grand all with low mileage.
Agreed. Got an awesome deal on a used multistrada V4S. Couldn't have considered that bike before cuz of cost but damn what a beast
Whoa, wait - an R1300RT? Is it out now?
@@pneumaticman5927 2025 model, due out late spring, EU. Probably fall North America and ROW.
@ Clever username, that. 😂 Thanks brother.
The makers kept upping the prices with bigger techno bikes.
Times got hard and people are saying nope I'll keep my bike or down size
Really. It’s almost impossible to find a BMW 1250 RT, or a Goldwing DCT in my market area of NE Ohio.
@@charlessadler1721 Southern Powersports have a load of them on the website. I may have to go to TN. to buy a bike.
Tech is great but way to overdone for affordable maintenance and ownership for back up or just fun bikes!
quite interesting video? For whom? Which market? Which country?
I'm wondering the same
Exactly!
they show a “s1000rr” with clipons touching the roof. It’s obviously an asian country that has models we’ve never heard of. Probably cost less than any western bike too.
Cost is everything lower prices and the markets will come back!
Never hold on to my old motorcycle, bought it old, 24 years. Can never afford a new bike i like with those prices. Not without a big loan. Why would i do that. Nope
At 64, I'm just not all that excited about the new bikes styling and pricing. Oh and 6k for a 300?
Here in Canada we can only dream of buying those bikes at those prices! A Honda Goldwing new is almost $40k and an Indian or Harley are easily over $50k….all for a limited use motorcycle.
$40,000 for a new Goldwing in Canada is CHEAP!
$56,000 in the UK.
@@Sn00pyJ508 That's horrific...and on top of that you have to deal with Muslims taking over your country.
New bikes are expensive. Need to bring back two-strokes, which are lighter, simpler, and cheaper. Four-strokes are heavier, more complex, and more expensive.
Cant get rid of EV bikes.... Who'd have thought it.. 😂😂😂😂
My number one dream bike: BMW R1250RT. #2, the Honda GL1800. Shocked to see these models on this list.
Ha! Same here. You got some good taste in bikes my friend
@ I still own my 2000 R1100RT and I’ve ridden that bike all over the continental USA. For me, the ultimate touring motorcycle.

Hell no!😂
I'm willing to bet these bikes wouldn't even double my enjoyment factor.
Its easy to get caught up in all the latest power figures and gadgets, I've been there, but after 26 years of riding, I think the road you're riding and how you ride the bike are way more important than what you are riding when it comes to enjoyment.
Very true.
Bmw...never..ever never
I just sold my K1600B a few months ago. took 90 days on cycle trader. Great bike to ride and so much fun. Maintenance was expensive. and BMW will not sell a maintenance manual for their bikes. You are forced to pay a dealer 200 an hour to work on the bike. Last available manual was 2017. My bike was a 2021.
Wow. 24K for that zero? ridiculous
So many bikes for sale and I can't find the ADV 160 in this city.
My personal take on most of these bikes is that I'd never want any of them! I'll stick to my 1998 Sportster!
All HD’s are overpriced these days, and as noted motorcycles are a luxury items these days. Very few customers ‘need’ a motorcycle!
Welcome to the real world manufacturers.
Manufacturers will just give money back to dealers to help move inventory.
I’m paying for a bike not the glitzy showroom, heating and light bill. Never buy new anything. House, car, bike. Absolute con and people are finally waking up.
Whats about KTM ?
The ST Harley Davidson is $42,999 get it right 😂😂😂
Tracer 9 and bmw rt sells very well in France though!
Mom & Dad's house was $28 k
Greedy companies. Take note from Royal Enfield.
Did they really compare a Ducati panigale with a yamaha r7 ?.... please.. not even in the same universe..
So what do buyers want, a decent bike for under $10.000? Cheapskates.
Not if you buy a Triumph Speed 400 or BMW g310R :)

Yes. I can afford to pay the prices, but refuse to do so. All my bikes are circa 2010.
