I love Mel Gibson the actor, the director, the person. He's not perfect, and whatever Hollywood has done to him in the past few years speaks volumes of its biases and hypocrisy.
Mel's biggest issue became alcohol addiction And abuse. Then rage . Combine the two , you want to put your wife IN the garden. Actual statements made on phone during a tirade.
@@jackhammer3878 He said even worse things on several calls she recorded. He is so low that he later claimed (while sober) that she had somehow edited them. But hey, like the OP said he's not perfect 😄
i noticed he still had the aussie accent in the 80s by the 90s it was american completely unless he was talking to another aussie or he was back in australia, then it would slip back in
We can't claim Mel as an Aussie, he moved here when he was 12 so he was already at that stage an American, Mel had to fake his Australian accent to fit in, he used to get bullied at school so he changed his accent, even in Mad Max which was filmed in 1978 you can still hear bits of his American accent, so no, we can't claim him as ours.
"High reward, low effort", he is my spirit animal. I was 14 when he did this and I think I saw it and adopted his work ethic. I keep my current job for exactly that reason.
The best part is that he REALLY was THE movie star at that time, and rare are the actors who have been as "movie star-like" since then. Why ? Because it was written all over his fucking face. I wonder what Hollywood actor could pull something like that today.
My brother suffered from alcoholic rage, he was and is my best mate but under the influence he has destroyed cars, threatened my life, broken a man’s jaw, been arrested and punched out a cop. He’s been sober for over twenty years and my beautiful loving brother has been restored to me. Having suffered from several blackouts myself I know how alcohol can hijack your mind and eventually take your soul. So I understand the struggles of Mel Gibson and do not judge him for his bad behavior, but appreciate his incredible genius and all to human battles with rage alcohol and sobriety

“I don’t have to work very hard” I don’t think he’s joking when he says this. Makes me like him more that he just admits it. There’s so many actors who make it sound like acting is a very demanding job. A normal blockbuster movie will require like 8 weeks of “work” from the lead actor. And depending on the type of role, they might not even be shooting every day. But they’ll make millions of dollars from their “work”, which is literally just showing up to set, dressing up, standing around waiting for the shot to get set-up and then saying your lines. There’s nothing “hard” about that line of work, it’s all about your talent and whether you sound cool when you read your lines. Are you naturally convincing? Any actor who pretends like it’s hard to “act” for 8 weeks and make 5 million dollars is a giant L.
HIS BEST movie was his first an Aussie Colleen McCullogh book (she wrote The Thorn Birds) - it was called Tim. He plays a low intelligence lad who meets a snobbish older lady. Please if you haven’t seen it TIM (full movie is on TH-cam) Australian movie
I've never felt alienated by anything he did. In fact, much of what he's known 'notoriously' for just makes him that much more endearing. To be clear, I'm not endorsing everything (don't drink and drive, kids), but seeing him go through a rough spell like that kinda helped me in way. He's actually one of those celebs that I don't really know of that much through what they're most known for, as I really haven't seen that many of his films. I really know of him from interviews, and reading about him and his father. Interesting people. David Cole is said to be producing a documentary about his father that will include an interview he said Cole could release after he died...which was this past May, if I recall correctly.
This was 1989. Before his directing career and others iconic movies, but he was already very famous
Mad Max trilogy and Lethal Weapon are some of his most iconic work. Not to mention his other movies were very popular also.
I think his best work was behind him, really.
@ Braveheart is one of this best. Behind him? Nah
Mad max 2: 1981
