Blethering Ben - Deepest Darkest Kinross

  • In a normal November I wouldn't have hesitated in whizzing off to see the snow up north, but Fife's in Tier 3 of Covid restrictions and the big hills are off limits, so November adventures had to be taken closer to home. It was time to get creative in my back yard, so I popped five miles next door into Kinross and was very glad I did, thank you very much! ;-)

      @@BenvironmentBlog The house is fine, we got just some little damaches at the roof. The mess around the house was insane. Now when the snow begins to melt it gets even messier... 🙈😅

      @@stefanfuchs2773 Well I'm glad to hear you're safe. Do you normally have avalanches right around your house?

    • @stefanfuchs2773
      @stefanfuchs2773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenvironmentBlog well we live in a "red zone" so we have avalanches every few years. But since recording in early 1900 this was the biggest. Normaly they stop higher in the forests, but this time the avalanche has destroyed most of the forest and stopped just 15m from our house. We have an extra wall on the house to protect from avalanches, but this one I dont think the house could stop it. So that was a bit of luck for us. I can post you an image from above on facebook 😊

    Nice vid. Theres a good chance the fish remains are from a Loch Leven trout. They use the South Queich for spawning around November, though im not sure how far upstream they can access. Looked a fair sized fish, horrible tasting and out of season for human consumption but an otter wont be too fussy.

    ahw Ben nice exploration again. That snot is called 'sterrenschot' over here. People thought it was bits of shooting star - or witches snot. I understand it to be predatorial frog throw up.. something to do with their undigestable eggs.. could possibly be that otter. Very cool to see it's tracks!
    But oh wow what a gem you've found!

    Interesting video Ben. I don't think I'd fancy making my way through there; seems a dangerous place for rain running off hill
    after unexpected showers/flash floods, with water forcing its way through the gorge. (possibly).. seems you had best conditions
    to complete it unhindered.

      I reckon it's the only time of year I'd walk it, given the bracken and the risk of trampling some rare wildlife.
