Yeah, I just got my alienware HDR monitor some 6 months ago. Helldivers 2, deeprock galactic, Ghosts of Tsushima. They all blow me away. Even Sekiro looked pretty decent. Elden ring feels foggy or washed out to me. **Updated graphics drivers and it works now. Looks like Sekiro HDR.

Some HDR users like every scene to be full contrast, but the devs may not intend it to be that way. With starfield, it was just lack of HDR experience. With Elden Ring, I think they tightly control their luminance in certain areas, this comes from an understanding of HDR, so they can really make places like mines or the underground cities really pop when they do decide to allow perfect blacks.

I have noticed that there seems to be some kind of HDR vignette effects where there is a round area in the middle of the screen that gives the full brightness, at least on lava in the Volcano Manor locations. Outside of that circle the brightness looks SDR

Interestingly I played the whole game with saturation at 7, but the dlc I have it at 5. The dlc area is much darker and so it seems like it doesn’t need the extra colour depth. An interesting one! Good video was always
As I said before, the chart of brightness of non LG tvs at 7:30 is wrong... Sony + Samsung models should be an automatic 200 nits higher than their actual real measured peak brightness due to always on tone mapping they have vs HGIG on lg. You want to add 200 nits more on always tone mapping screens because of their roll off. They don't just hard clip at the brightness you set it to like hgig
I just maxed all 3 HDR settings on my Series X and it looks good to me so far. I have a very low NIT TV, I don't even think it's the 800 NITS you have listed as the lowest, and the default did look washed out in comparison. It's a more entry level 4K TV from at least 5 years ago. Might fiddle with it more as I play.
i use this settings on my S90C (Game Mode with Tone Mapping Active) brightness 2, luminance 1400, saturation 6 and finally i beat all 10 main bosses in the DLC (PS5 version). It took me about 21 hours

@@rejectxz hey don’t hate me i’m still exploring rn and start helping my friends through the ending. in 21 hours i completed every side quest, unlocked all maps and caves, but i haven’t beaten every mini-bosses. i can do this quickly because I was prepared with multiple builds I like (remember, it's not a one-shot build).. that’s an achievement for me. usually i like parrying all the main bosses with shield, but now i use a two-handed gargoyle’s twinblade+25 bleed build. still trying to figure out what is the best combo with Spear of the Impaler+10 (messmer’s sword), Poleblade of the Bud+10, and fire messmer incantations like Fire Serpent & Messmer’s Orb with Light of Miquella + Rellana’s Twin Moons. i don’t watch youtube guide for this specific combo because i need to figure out what works best for me.

I thought the fault was from the TV or HDR. Sometimes it was bright and dull, and sometimes it was dark, until I adjusted the settings and did not notice the same words she was saying. Of course I use a Samsung 85d screen. Disabled Contrast Enhancer. And shade enhancer-5. The picture in the open world is excellent, but it is a bit dark in the caves. Thanks for the explanation.
I've been using ps5 with lg c4 oled. I calibrated the ps5 using hgig then I started elden ring and messed with it for hours. I switched to dtm on and left hdr calibration alone. Game settings according to this video. Brightness 5 max brightness 1000 saturation 7. Rpg game mode color depth 55. Sharpness 10. And also oled panel Brightness down to 80. This is the best looking I've found i believe
For me i play with saturation at max :P I like the over saturated look of some stuff, like mohgs arena. I play with brightness max too. It makes some areas faded, but also makes it pop in the darker areas.
Same, I bought the game recently, switched to HDR and thought it looked really washed out. Put all the settings to max and felt like the colours popped and detail in general stood out much more. I might tweak it a bit here or there to balance things out, but I might end up leaving it at max.
Is there any reason you don't include the CIE diagram? I've noticed that it's much more useful to see how a game is utilizing the expanded hdr color spaces instead of a percentage. For example, in Hellblade 2 the game doesn't have a lot of intense color at times and may not use any dci-p3 or bt2020 colors but then during a fire ritual you'll see it expand deeply into bt2020 and it's very vivid. Not something you can see with just the numbers. Though you do use the heatmap overlay so that's good.

Can't stand the adjustment period when brightness switches fast and frequent with DTM on and you can see in real time the brightness slowly increases or up and down until it temporarily settles. Very annoying and one big reason to avoid it.

I don't know what it is but with this game and a few others DTM just looks better to me. I use HGIG with 99% of my games. Also for some reason Warm 3 color temperature on this game looks better to me. I use warm 3 for God of War as well.. Maybe I like how easy it is on my eyes with these long sessions I've been doing on this DLC as well. I actually use the same settings you recommend brightness 5, 2000, and 7 on saturation. I've always used color at 70 on my CX since day one instead of the default 55. I like the little extra color boost and it doesn't over color the picture, facial tones etc imo. I had been using the color space that Ninjician (what ever happened to that guy) recommended with CX with Warm 2 where green was pushed to 4 and blue was pushed to 13. I still think it looks great with that. With my C4 I don't have to do that. I use it for my PS5. Still love my CX for Xbox though. I can't bring myself to get rid of it just yet.
I am still unsure if you should change the settings if you use HGiG or DTM ON. On my G2 I can't see a difference between HGiG and DTM on with the same peak brightness setting. I did not test this on my S95C to have a final decision.

Rtings says that the tv has 1200 peak brightness, but i am unsure what to set to in the app, because the white square can sometimes disappear at 2000 nits and sometimes at 1300 nits or 1200 nits. Also if i set HDR under game mode settings on the tv to basic and HDR Tone Mapping to static, is it the same as HGIG or does it still tonemap?
77in LG C1 HGIG - 5 - 1000 - 7. Color temp set to warm 50 of course. I had it at 800 but after watching this video I bumped it up a couple notches. But I will try it at max brightness and DTM on to see if I like it better.

But I will say that the PS5 version looks slightly less “washed out” / better blacks I dont know why that is tbh. I have 150 hours on Elden Ring already, this DLC could be 100 more. This is the biggest game ever

HDR is still really buggy on PC. I disabled it and forced windows HDR on and it looks nice enough without the hassle.
mine was too until i did a clean install on the nvidia drivers. Now it actually switches to HDR without any hassle.
Idk why but the whole image becomes grey for me with HDR enabled ingame.
RTXHDR though, works wonders.

Its good because with DTM is important decrease the brightness, and the game look like hgig but less whashed out.

Make sure you're using the warm 2 color setting as it's the most accurate. I have an LG CX. Hope this helps.

It's odd that hardly any games I know of use the system level HDR, it seems you only set it for the front menu of the console. Pointless really.

S95c can do 2000 nits with the mod..

I always though this game looks ugly. More like a 2015 game. HDR proves they don't really give much attention to graphical fidelity.
It's not a great looking game and even worth it's runs like crap. But gameplay is really good just too hard for my personal preference.
