I know you always say that this is just a hobby of yours, but I can't imagine people out there who do any better work on Revox machines than you do. Fantastic restoration!
Beautiful work, Almando. I've been told that some PR99 machines are capable of recording "full track mono" in a single stripe across the entire recordable width of the tape. Can you talk about this either here or in a separate video?
I have never worked on a proper mono deck. But some time ago I worked on a pr99 that was converted to mono, and I returned to a proper stereo deck. The best place to address your question is on www.tapeheads.net.
I have a Studer G36 and I noticed that recording made on it sound great but if you play back on another r2r like a Pioneer or Akai it sounds harsh and slightly distorts on higher output .... different machines have different sound But be careful with the PR99 there are some IC's that if they go it's toast they don't make those IC's anymore maybe better to have an Akai or Pioneer that is easier to keep long term .... I know Ferrograph made some great r2r which are easier to maintain
i would not remove the ampex 456 label, because the real is actually collectible since they no longer make ampex tape the removal of the label would be mute just a thought on that
hi only buy decks i can get parts for or deck that i can fix up sorry to say i do like the tascam 30 line NOTE i can fix or replace the main transport log not i find pcb way hard to work with there's lot on it i have 2 old revox that are why bad than this deck they came from 8 TRACK reel to reel note the heads were very bad i love the otari mtr 12 1/2 inch 4 track stereo jazzed one it doe's sound better than this deck i had a test run with this model i got the otari mtr 12 because it would be easy to jazz it up and down great to use as a tape edit on it

Thanks for your comments. I do take my time on these decks. Everything must be as close as I can get it. No shortcuts.

TDK or Maxell tapes are normally all very good but yeah RTM tape is the best new tape you can get
Yes I agree. I will be using RTM.
Hi good day I love the work you do on these old machines and I would like for you to to service mine how can we make contact ? Pablo

You may also be able to buy new old stock heads. I bought 3 sets for my Revox decks.

I dont know where are you located but stop using ampex and dont by atr. these are same shit. buy rtm you won't regret.
Almando said only the reels are Ampex, NOT the tape because we all know that the tapes shed oxide.
