Wow I just coincidentally finished rereading Hellsing the other day too. I agree with most of your points, it is definitely more just Rule of Cool, what if vampires v nazis kind of story. I do think Alucards backstory was a cool reinterpretation of Dracula media tho. I won't go into spoilers but I do think the Major had a bit more going on that made him interesting to me, especially his connection with Alucard and his views on humanity. Also the fact he could never hit a target was a great gag
Hellsing was pretty much just Hirano's playground, fun and batshit insane, I can imagine some studio in the future will give it a "The boys" treatment if it ever gets animated again.
Dope review. Hellsing was one of the first manga series that I ever read and for that reason it's super nostalgic to me. After rereading it this past year, I think its pretty fun at the beginning, but honestly gets stale near the half-way mark. The action just didn't make up for the lack of interesting shit or character development
To be honest I liked it a lot because I took it for what it was, action on full throttle with a couple of storylines but mainly a simple plot, war. Character development and backgrounds aren't that amazing but for what it is it works. Like he said the art goes from average to pretty fuckin badass and idk man but Alucard aka Dracula with two stylish handguns is something I dig. Gotta admit though I got a little lost on those last volumes because the sequences and "story" was a little all over the place. Also I didn't like the end of Father Anderson which is one of my favorite characters. Overall I like the take of Hellsing into the Dracula mythos and is a good read if you just wanna chill and not get into something with deep storytelling, the Abridge though, is freaking Amazing.
Amazing or not, $50 is definitely not something you should pay for those Deluxe Editions You can find them cheaper either on sales or on Rightstuf which they always have them for $36 something and on sale they get to $33 or so and IMO $35 is the sweet spot for those DH Deluxe Editions Can't wait to see which other series they reprint on this format
Lot of hate on this. This was my first read into the dark horse manga and I loved it. Yes character development could of been better. Yes was a fullspeed read that makes it confusion to take in at times but I had a blast reading it. I personally love the bold outline art, guns and gore. About half way through blade of the immortal right now. Def a lot more story substance. Waiting for berserk 1-11 to come into the mail. Also I agree with someone’s else’s statement that $50 for each deluxe is too much. I’ve purchased almost all of them for around $20-$40max a piece. Saved hundreds dollars
The only good chapter was the Van Winkle musical and I can't understand why there was so little singing in the series despite the name! 2/10 Also the mercenary leader (Pip Bernadotte) was more down bad than Apollo smh.
Yeah I prefer to stay out of a series that has mediocre action, mediocre characters, and mediocre story. The fact that Hellsing fans shit on Demon Slayer is just hilarious, because at least Demon Slayer has good action. It’s telling when the 2001 adaptation and The Abridged series are the best installments of the story.
Hellsing was pretty bleh, would honestly just settle on watching hellsing ultimate and calling it a day. Story sucks and art while unique isn’t appealing.
Berserk is better than Demon Slayer
Pinned so everyone can see how wrong you are.

I love that the Twilight poster is just a thing you edited in lol

Why do you have a Twilight poster
Cause Twilight is perfect.
one of the few times I got to thank funimation were the show the episode on youtube that got me into the series plus the abridge series
By the way love your videos keep it up
This manga was all over the place but at least it’s a fun ride.
Also Kool Kid is more obsessed with me than Based is with his reflection
There is no development of character in this series, plot is almost none existence. The action is hard to follow.

Man hellsing the ultimate ova is way more better then helsing in my opinion
Like the original anime? You have the right to your wrong opinion then because the gonzo adaption was dope.

No I sucked it back into my head
Thank goodness people don't like it. This is why we gatekeep

The abridged series is unfortunately the best way to experience the property

🤨
Hellsing Ultimate also has uninspired action.
Hellsing was the worse read of my year, it says a lot when the best thing about the series is the art and you don’t care for the art.
Ok
