I have a question, I followed your video and when I went to start my jeep it was not starting and misfiring. I took the coil pack off and re-installed it and it still did it. Could it be the spark plugs?

You may get a check engine light with a code that points to a cylinder misfire, one of the things that can trigger this code is a bad igition coil.

Hello, this video was extremely helpful. I replaced this tonight. I also replaced the sparkplugs about 6 months ago. The check engine light disappeared but came back on after driving. What else could it be? Or do I just need to drive it until the care recognizes the new part?

Hi, on an '04 4.0 i6 jeep I've got multiple misfiring cylinders 2,3, & 6 with a shaking engine and pulsing power when driving under a load. Upstream o2 sensors have been changed, fuel filter has been changed and plugs have been changed. Is it possible to be a bad coil pack that's causing the multiple cylinders to misfire, and is there any way to test that without a spark plug tester to determine if I'm getting good spark?

    • @HomeownerRepair

The designer or engineer who came up with this electrical connection, in this particular location, should be fired and never hired again. The coil should have a built-in shielded pigtail and the connection to the wiring harness should be on the firewall,. If you are going to use such a cumbersome end fitting on a wire harness, it should be located in a place where visibility and access is maximized. I would rather pay 25 dollars for the foot and a half of extra wire, than to be confronted by a connector which is vulnerable to getting stuck when a previous mechanic has not used dielectric grease or anti-seize during a previous part replacement.

It can be a little bit of a challenge to replace.

Is it really that bad to just deal with the slightly extra effort that it takes to put the coil pack back on without the grease? Geez.. lol

Putting the coil pack back on without the grease isn't the problem. But if you want to preventing carbon tracking and easy removal the next time, you'll use the grease.
