Love that we're getting these new clips with Ann. Keep them coming, please!
100%❤
She is misleading people just to be politically correct. This video is a shame. People now believe hyenas have a long clitoris when they give birth and copulate using the “pseudo penis” a pretty bad name. She should not lie and mislead just to cry “girl power “
@@jaimeduncan6167 except it's still biologically considered a clit.
Do you know what make animals fight better ? Well you guess it or not (testosterone) what happens to female body builders injecting massive amount of testosterone ? YOU GUESSED IT or not, their masculine sexual attribute (such as square jaw low voice and big PP or clitoris are enhanced). It's pretty easy to draw the line here, the female specie of both of these super aggresssive mammals needs lots of testosterone, hence why they have big pp's both male and female.
I've heard about the concept of them giving birth through the pseudo penis but now I wonder how sex works. I'm stuck between the logic of "I'm on youtube I could look it up" and the logic of "I'm on youtube I should NOT look it up"
Ever heard of docking?
This makes me think of Dwight and Angela asking Toby about “red vining”
It's very much a weird little dance of the male having to position himself slightly under the female, almost falling over backwards, to line up with the opening. As mentioned in the video, the females can retract their pseudopenis, so when mating, she pulls it up close to her body, shortening the tube and making it somewhat easier for entry. It's the only access point to anything, but they figured out a way, and once it's all in position they move back into a more well know and comfortable position until they're done.
Proving once again that the internet knows nothing about female anatomy 😅😂
The pseudo penis is an extra large clitoris, it has nothing to do with child-birth, they give birth through their vagina.
It’s quite the visual. Do not recommend.
Yeah, I thought they figured out that it was a defense mechanism for females getting pregnant from males they don't want kids with. They extend it so males can't mate properly with them then retract it when they want pups from a certain male. This makes it so the females can reinforce the matriarchy of the species as well.
That makes more sense than a disguise. Because what would pseudopenis do when they still can smell pheromones?
Good Idea - but otherwise the Females of the Crowd are the Chiefs anywere and always...if a female don't want to have Contact with a Male...she could kill him, they are so aggressive, to try to "rape" a Hyäena is not possible for a male!
Its to prevent r word lol and I think dolphins need one too lol
Yep females are large and in charge in hyenas 😂
@shiion6711 yes it really allows females to choose better suited males, not just based on aggression. That is what went wrong with domesticated ducks. We forgot to take personality into account
Actually guessed it! Knew about the hyena but not the cassowary
Well done!
Same here! 😂
Ditto 😂
me too @MeigetsuNoSeishin
Same. I already knew about hyenas, so I assumed cassowaries must be just as weird.
What do Cassowaries and Hyenas have in common?
Me: scary

That picture of the grinning hyena won't let me sleep at night
But... the ears are so fluffy! Let's focus on that bit :D

Ann is our national science treasure. I would do anything to just meet her and listen to her infodump random biology facts!
I did not expect that.. I answered “they’re both killing machines” 🤷🏻♀️
Gock is the ultimate slayer of men
I said "they can both break your legs*
I answered "birds"
Basically just left the same comment. This is my way of giving you credit 😑

The really scary part is that they give birth through that tiny tube. So it's rather like having am external birth canal. And ouch!
WHAAAAT???
Really shows that hyenas truly are in a different group of animals than canines
I knew about pseudopenises of female hyenas but didn't know they could give birth through it. Now I must look it up
Update: I watched videos of hyenas giving birth. Nature never fails to amaze me. I mean why are they giving birth through their tiny pseudopenises and not vagina? It's so painful and higher chance to kill the baby and the mother than normal (?) way
@@HelloThere-cz9tiso you’ve Scarred yourself yet
I think most people knew about the hyenas. The cassowary was out of left field. I didn't even realize birds that weren't water fowl could have them.
I think cassowaries are from Australia, and if I’m correct, I think that explains it enough lmao

The delivery of the ending had me dying 😂
The parallel fades when you learn that hyenas give birth through their "huge clitorises". 🤢
I feel so bad that Hyenas have to give birth through them though🥲
I was told that but took a long time believing it. I thought maybe someone fake updated Wikipedia
Omg, i understand the context because your comment 😮, so the female gave birth from the pseudo... that?!
The first thing that came to mind was “they eat dead things” 😂
Nah, something about the cassowary feels too psychopathic to eat like a vulture. I think they nibble your toes first. Wait, did I say nibble?
I meant sever clean off at the ankle with their razor beak.
@@audreydoyle5268 yeah, I honestly,Ty know nothing about cassowaries, but the featherless head is a pointer for scavenger birds like vultures and turkeys
what do casuary's and hyena have in common;
me: they both laugh and giggling
Waffles the Hyena didn't fight... she made the right friends. Within a year she became the matriarch without fighting. She also took care of babies of females. Hyenas aren't AS aggressive as once thought. I find Waffles to be an inspiration that hard work and patience go a long way. Hyenas are one of my favorite animalsm
I can't believe I've never heard this before!
The last part got me. Haha
You are literally my favourite person! Everything is so interesting. Next David Attenborough?
Okay.... I did not know this, but I found everything interesting, and then there was Ann being funny in a way I didn't see that coming. 😅😅😂😂 Bless you, Ann!
How did you not see that coming, it was huge! 🤣🤭
Poor spotted hyenas having to give birth through that though. One of the most painful births in the animal kingdom. 😬
They still choose to get pregnant
@@UwUImShio L troll
@@melanopygus what?

@@UwUImShio I'm calling you a troll. If you are genuine, there's something wrong.
Will have to rewatch that live action Lion King now
This is russian roulette: hyena edition 😂😂
Female hyenas are significantly larger then males though
It also makes males force breeding the females extremely difficult .. well in spotted hyenas that would be difficult due to the fact that females are larger than males as well, but it does help.
Spotted hyenas are one of my favorite animals, they’re so badass and the way their flocks work is fascinating
Spotted hyenas are the only hyena species with a pseudopenis.
They also live in a matriarchy with the females being bigger and stronger.
So it's complete bs to suggest that it's to prevent rape.
My roommate looked at me funny for shouting “female penises” haha 😂
Correction , *clitorises*
I thought there was a theory the pseudopenis is to avoid unwanted mating? 🤔 Not sure, it's been years since I learned about these.
pretty sure in hyena clans, females are the dominant sex so that probably isn't the issue
With hynes that's not an issue
More like a way to force unwanted mating. To assert dominance. 🗿
@@DanielMWJ You think the female hyenas are raping other hyenas with their pseudopenis in order to assert dominance?
She: what's common?
Me: both are animal 💀
As a trans guy i always knew something about hyenas felt relatable
I wish I had a pseudo thingy too
As a guy I’ve never felt so inadequate.
SMFH
Except their pseudo-penises actually look convincing
Bruh💀
Dr Ann always makes my day when she uploads. Thanks Dr Ann, never go away.
I hoped I was wrong... 😂😂😂
they both breath air!
This scientist is clearly a national treasure. Please give her some kind of Southern Hemispherean honor quickly
That was my first through but then I went “nah that’s crazy”. Turns out natures crazier than I thought.
Speaking hyena...😂 Love this channel!
Hyena: “I THOUGHT YOU WERE FEMALE”
Don't worry they don't mind it XD
I love this lady..😅😅
Giving birth as a Hyena is uh, quite a messy process
You are amazing Ann!!!😂
Imagine being the scientist trying to prove this theory at first 😂
I wish she added they also give birth through it to freak people out more lmao 😂
gotta love ABC
My favorite part about all Cassowaries having a penis is that they don’t use them to mate. They mate cloaca to cloaca like most other birds.
There is a third species… humans!
Why thank you for acknowledging my clitdiq

Bro literally! one of my online friends learned how to change her voice to sound masculine💀
Oh my guess was they'll both absolutely murder you... you really threw me with that one 😂
LORD have mercy 😭😂 I love it!
Same thing happens in human sometimes, especially in Thailand
Damn, Shenzi in Lion King must've been packing.
Thank you for the information.
I absolutely love your BRAIN!🫶🏼🧠

In the 2nd last pic of the yeens, the middle one is doing a blep and I love it
I just guessed while laughing at myself but I was right(?) 😂😂
When I tell you I made a fully blind, uneducated, wild guess to the first question asked in this--
I did not expect to be right lmao
Thank you for making a video about this
I have gender envy for a bird too now. Damn it
David Attenborough missed that part 😂😂
I said they both have DNA, so I’m not technically wrong
I thought the thing they have in Common is OH MY GOD RUN, RUN, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD RUN!!!!
I love this woman 😂
MORE DR. ANN JONES 🗣🗣🗣
Another reason to love hyenas
I love her depiction of how they hide and try to blend in 😂
Love this woman!
Women in America have these too. You ain't special 😂 in fact they're the real deal 🤣
Idk about cassowaries, but hyenas give birth through that thing.😢
You should've put a warning here 🤣
“Behave like a pack of wild hyenas” makes a lot of sense.
Dont the hyeanas give birth with it
Yes. And it's risky for both mom and the babies. It can rupture during birth, or the babies can suffocate because they get stuck (The canal is only about an inch wide) There's an insane amount of nerve endings in the clitoris, I can't even imagine the pain of giving birth that way 😢 😭
Want to learn more? 😁
Sex between a male and female is INCREDIBLY difficult and it's a wonder it's even successful. The pseudo-penis isn't just a very large clitoris but it's also used for urination, a passage to give birth, and for sexual intercourse! 😳 The male's penis needs to enter the small opening through the tip of the female's pseudo-penis - a pretty tricky scenario, considering that both point forward. Males are submissive to females so if she's not willingor if he's taking too long and she gets impatient, it's not going to happen.
Now for the matter of birth.Yes, it's as horrible and difficult as you might imagine.
Due to the narrow and long birth canal in the pseudo-penis and the time needed for the cub to emerge, the first-born cub usually dies of hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and is stillborn. The birth of a cub is also painful for the female as the end of her pseudo-penis has to tear to allow the cub to be born. The average width of the pseudo-penis opening is just over 2 cm wide (and it stretches little to none) but the average width of the cub is 6 to 7 cm. Between 10-17% of first time mothers also will die. ☹️ Females that have previously birthed cubs have an easier time of it as that tear never heals as before so the opening is now permanently larger.
The thing is I really like spotted hyenas and they get a bad rap. They don't bully lions and steal their kills though it does sometimes happen since their territories often overlap. What happens is the other way. Lions are well known to steal kills that hyenas make.
I loved the ending.
first thing that pop up in my mind when I saw a hyena I thought about that female version has pineses 😂
That hyena interpretive dance was top notch!
I’m sure I could have gone another year or two without knowing that 😂
Well. Never heard anyone bring up that last thing LMAOO
You were kind to skip how they birth...
I love her! Omg so funny! 🤣
Thanks for information
Hyenas are my favorite animals. They are matriarchal, with females tending to be much bigger than males. Their Pseudopenis is actually their Clitoris AND their vagina. They give birth and have intercourse through it and looks similar to docking when with a male and mating. Female Hyenas will chase the males to the outskirts of the territory and only allow them in for mating. The female lets a male know she is in heat by Vomiting and rolling around in it, sometimes a male will join her. When NOT mating, the females have an Alpha female and her cubs get priority of the den, then, the next females in line will share the den with the alphas cubs and those few selected females will be put in charge of babysitting. Hyenas are one of the extremely few mammals that can digest everything including Bone. Their scat is usually white because their bodies absorb EVERYTHING. They also are in the top 5 strongest bite force of mammals. ❤
Not what I was expecting her to expound on today, but I'll watch anything with Ann Jones! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yep... was just in the middle of saying I really like your videos, I've been watching them all. And then that happened
Which breaks apart during the delivery and is incredibly painful
Fascinating!
I learned this about hyenas from the 2002 Sandra Bullock movie 'murder by numbers'. It's cool that a bird has that too, lol, nature is amazing. 🤯
I’d go with #2. We’re really understudied in the females as active sex partners. It’s patriarchy, the prevailing male centric view and popular gender stereotyping in science. Understood that it’s difficult to question, b/c even Darwin wrote about female choice in sexual selection of the species and still assumed it was male specific. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I actually answered the question right without looking at the caption lmao 😂
Somehow predicted that answer while having no knowledge of cassowaries
I’m about to scroll to sleep and THIS is what shows up on my feed 😭
This all sounds great until you discover that she has to give birth through it. And it can tear just like a human female
Yeah, a tear that bad for a labouring human mother is called a 4th degree tear. A labouring hyena mother wouldn't even have such a tear considered more than a 3rd degree. 4th would be split all the way.
Wow thanks TH-cam for showing me this short as the first thing I see when I open the app
I thought it was their ability to kill me
Good for them honestly
I was unironically right because i guessed beased on what i knew about hyenas lmao
“These species are really aggressive. They spend a lot of time fighting and they’ll even kill each other”
Interesting
Around 30 second this lady is an example of what she’s explaining for those who don’t get it.
If this lady was your teacher you'd have learnt alot in school.
😢 was totally not ready for this video!
My first answer was rage but this is cool too.
