    For some strange reason I can see the bcc list when someone sends an email bcc-ing me

    Normally when the boss is BCC'd on an email ,he throws you under the bus anyway. So BCC at your own peril😅

    Is there a way I can set BCC as my default for sending emails?

      Depends entirely on what email program you're using. Typically: no

    You seem like you know your stuff, so I'll give this a shot: I have looked and can't find the answer anywhere (or I searched poorly), is there a simple way to see when a message was SENT to you as opposed to RECEIVED (using gmail)? Of course, aside from asking the sender to screenshot the time they sent an email. Thanks a'plenty Leo!

    • @askleonotenboom

      If you look at the message source or hidden headers, you can determine that. It's not always easy, but the information is there.

      @@askleonotenboom Thanks so much! That was embarrassingly easy. Just had to click the 3 dots next to reply and select "Show Original". Not sure why so many emails take "(Delivered after 485 seconds)" so long to arrive, but nice to have proof that I wasn't 8 minutes late sending something.

    A major reason to use BCC is to prevent people from replying to everyone else that received the mail.
    In the early days, I had a CEO who would TO: or CC: a huge list of people.
    When any of them responded (with Reply-all:) it went to everyone.
    Some of whom then responded: DON'T REPLY ALL - using Reply-All
    Email nuclear chain reaction. :-)

    • @LaurenceBrevard

      We finally got that person to Send TO: their self and BCC: everyone else

      There is no good reason to ever use BCC, unless of course your a sneak or have something to hide.

      @@ugetridofit I have had 2 shady “higher ups” over the last 6 years who are sneaks. One was questioning some of my decisions (as a team lead over 30 people), the other didn’t like me and had a target on my back (didn’t make a difference). I found out about the first because the person talked to me about topics I had discussed in emails with others, but never with them. I found out about the second because a co-worker in the know told me that my suspicions were correct.
      I agree with you. BCC is sneaky and I think it’s a real bad practice.

    • @Sunnilocs

      @@ugetridofit there are actually other reasons to use BCC. Just as the OP stated, 1. avoiding reply to all for a large group. 2. Privacy: keeping email addresses of high profile recipients private from the rest of the people receiving the email. 3. Human Resources documentation of communications. It's not meant to be used as you described, but some people do use it that way.

  • @mrperez7036

    BCC sounds very sneaky and makes me wonder and borderline illegal

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hardly. I'll put it this way: Say I send a (paper) letter to person A. I also show that letter to person B without telling person A. Is that illegal? Of course not. It's the same with BCC.

    there is a way. you can hit reply all and if the person thats been bcc responds to the sender you will get the response as well which then will show you who has been blind copied

      I have noticed this in a recent email campaign ... A customer has said that....
      Quote "Can you please stop sending these emails to all receipts.. everyone can see each other's emails, and people are pressing reply all. there is automated systems to avoid this"
      Question @askleonotenboom.... If this is happening... How can this be rectified?? And what automated systems are their you can plug into your email service to prevent this??

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@madzyrango If all email addresses are seen, then it's not using BCC. I know of no way to automate populating the BCC line. Sorry. Senders need to do the right thing before they hit send.

    What if the boss decides to move the email that he received which had been BCC'ed to different folder ? there is no way to it then ? This is essentially spaming right?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what "BCC'ed to a different folder" means. BCC recipients cannot be seen. Period. (And spammers use it all the time.)

  • @Note-dy6yd

    Hi Leo, you are now working in a different level which is for the people who are Not the guru of computer and I really thank you for that. To find out about the BCC, I sent email to my two different emails to see how it appears for the receiver. Is it a way to hide the BBC for the recipient so the receiver does not know you hide other emails from his view. Sometimes some people take it personal, like you do not trust them when you send them email using BCC

  • @StalkedByLosers
    @StalkedByLosers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not true! I once BCC'd the CEO when responding to my manager years ago. He immediately called me and chewed me out for doing that. He said he could see BCC's and that it isn't really blind and immediately called my intentions into question. I got in big trouble. Becareful giving information out like this. I got burned. But not from your advice. I thought it was blind like you thought.

    • @askleonotenboom

      I do believe I mention in the video (or at least the companion articles) that some corporate email systems might be able to do this in some situations, but only on email within the corp.

    Thanks Leo. I sent thanksgiving wishes to my friends & family in 2020 and would like to use these same bcc email addresses again this year without having to enter each individually. They number over 100 email addresses. How can I do this?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may not be able to. You can check your sent mail from last year and see if your email program will show you the BCC list. (Showing it on email you SENT is different than showing it on email you RECIEVE. Some programs save and display it for email you SENT.) Otherwise, save the list in a text file this year. :-)
