Love this screen test. I always read his voice as slightly slower and methodical, with a real world weariness that come from trying to remain human in an inhuman state. Great proof of concept though.
As great as this is, Concrete should be a suit. What better way to portray his struggle and isolation than to actually shove a guy into a walking slab?
I think this could be made into a movie now...wouldn't have worked as good in 2001. Love the comic and the art of the comic though. A movie could never do Paul Chadwick's art justice.
I would love to see a Concrete film... this short doesn't do it for me tho. His voice needs to be more authentic, textured and well... um, gravelly? I know it was just a test... and it's 16 years old now... I think CGI is the wrong way to go... and he should be shedding dust and particles everywhere he goes. The stories really are brilliant and would make a great high quality TV series or film... this test is lacking the cinematic "grit" that I think would be necessary to portray this material well...
I'd like to see a television series, preferably animated so they can follow the artist's intentions more closely and don't have to worry about any special effects.
@Gabe Stein The voice is produce by vocal chords, which are a physical aspect of the body. I am very good at ad hominems and it would be a simple matter to twist you up with them the way concrete does when he picks up a can of soda... but we are both fans of the same obscure material, so I'll give you and your stupid comment a modicum of grace.
@Ben John Sure.. but it doesn't feel like the voice we hearing is coming from his body. Rationalize whatever you want. He doesn't have to sound like the hulk or anything.. but, I think something to do to his voice what was done to his body would make it gel better.
Reading the graphic novels now is what led me here. I like how he makes a low thumping noise while walking on his stone feet, but as others have mentioned, his voice is gravelly (pun intended) as described by the writers in the story arc A Remarkable Life.
Wow, never knew this was in the pipeline. Really glad it didn't get made. Concrete works specifically for the comic medium in my opinion. It's all about his inner life, which comics are ideal for. No need for a film version. Also, hated the voice given to him in this.
Love Concrete but nothing in this short works. He is too short and moves too smoothly like he has not weight to him. His voice sucks and Dr Vonnegut is totally wrong. Too ordinary. No grace or sophistication (like a fan girl).
The interaction between the two is soothing.
i'm on tears, I love that character!

Awsome video on him, you got his character perfect, he would work great in the hellboy universe

I love this, but also agree that his voice sounds differently in my head.
Him hitting on her is creepier aloud than it is on the page.
Good job.

Cant wait! Maybe then Paul will pay me the reprint royalties he has "neglected"

@Gabe Stein 10 years on and I'd actually quite like to see a Concrete film. Could see it working nowadays
Is that Bill Murray's voice?

@Gabe Stein Nah, I'm obviously right.
