- I read your comments and uhh... What IS this game!? I try out the arcade mode for Waku Waku 7 for the Neo Geo MVS system and this game was so obscure, but interesting! What do you guys think of this game?

Waku Waku 7 is a fairly simple but cool game, for people that doesn't know characters in this game are pretty much parodys of other popular character or thropes from the time, Mauru is an obvious reference to Totoro for example haha
This game can be played in Fightcade 2 with a fairly active community. There's good resources like a complete wiki, training mode and bi weekly tournaments haha
this is the 3rd game where I wanna main a wired character that no one plays

@@r9ue Huh, yeah no one plays Bonus Kun mainly for 2 reasons, he's only in the console versions of Waku and only recently we got the boss hack to have its own lobby and he sucks lmao
I´d actually recommend the PS2 version of Waku Waku 7 (even tho it´s a japan only game) because it has an arranged soundtrack different from the Saturn release, and also you get an extra game.

13 year old me had fun playing this in a local arcade. Still looks fun today. There are the Warning special moves that are slow but powerful. And dandy-j is so obvious who is being referred to.

A gem for the animation alone. Used to play Slash and try to be nice with it but Politank-Z was just soooooo much fun. Like an SNK variant of Sentinel but with a Ghibli vibe.

I LOVE Waku Waku 7. Before WW7, I was a hardcore Capcom (Street Fighter, MvC, MvSf etc.) fan.. this is The Game that pretty much broke SNK Ground for me. After this, I started playing KoF97, and then fell in love with The KoF Series.
All because of this Game.

when I discovered this game it was my favorite fighting game for a while, eventually beat it with all the characters! it was really advanced in the mechanics and had great art! this game is a parody of a ton of anime. good stuff.

Everyone in this game has an unblockable Level 3-esque move, as they do a whole lot of damage (it even says "Warning!" on the screen). The drawback it's that they have pretty long startups and can be interrupted. But the final boss just gives the middle finger to such rules, as his super comes out instantly and can't be interrupted (while still being unblockable!), as it has armor (it's that rolling super move he did a few times)
Tesse is more like a zoner, but her gimmick it's that her item throw move gets more and more powerful as long as she holds it. The EX version of said move can get pretty ridiculous if you let her hold it fully, since it becomes chaos. And her Level 3 is pretty cool
The catch is.. They use only 1 stock. Everything in this game uses 1 stock, it's pretty ridiculous

I have an easier time finishing AOF 2 on 1 credit than FF2/FFS.
Then again I play AOF 2 a hell of a lot more than FF2/FFS.
The game’s not that hard, unless you suck at noticing and exploiting holes seen in the AI.
Waku Waku 7 was such a hidden gem in the arcades! I always enjoyed playing it just to take breaks playing Marvel 2 or CvS2 with tourney locals in my city
Everybody else in the arcade I went to wasp laying Tekken 2 as it'd just come out, but I spotted this in the corner and fell in love with it. I'd also try my hand at KOF 94 which they had there.

thank you SO much for giving waku waku 7 more exposure, justin! ❤️ one of the most important games of my childhood as it introduced me to fighting games as well as creating so many memories of maining maru against my brother for hours on end at the arcade.

I never knew what this game was until now. When I was a little kid, i bought a CD-RW with a busted, giant Mugen roster, and one of the characters was "Fernandeath" and i loved him. I never knew where he was from until now. He's more busted in this game than he ever was in Mugen tho

What I will say is...I REALLY loved how creative they got with the Boss Fight, in terms of making you grow Super Giant.
I honestly think more Fighting Games should do something Super Creative like that!

This is the first fighter I played. I CAN NOT pull of the ex special attacks. i love the art style tho.
The secret to this game is spam the ex moves and the gold power up mode as meter builds crazy fast.
In gold mode you do inflict much more damage AND also take much less damage, and gold burst works great as an anti air or reversal. But you want to not whiff it or you can get punished by a good player.
At higher level turns more into a meter resource management game where there’s lots of far distance zoning with the EX projectiles mixed with rush down with the gold power up mode, and it revolves around trying to use resources and gold burst to your advantage

Check out Astra Superstars, it was the next (and I believe last) fighter that Sunsoft made after Waku Waku 7. It was on the arcade ST-V board, which was identical to the Sega Saturn which it was also ported to.
Every character has one of those "WARNING" supers. They do massive damage if you can figure them out.

lol this reminded me of my first time playing SF2 at home...no clue what I was doing and just switching between all the characters every time I die, "one of these has to do something cool!"
Wow, never thought i would see this game again. It was my favorite for while. Just missed in The gameplay The "warning " specials. No defence and some were really difficult to dodge.
Waku Waku 7 is my favourite fighter. I have such nostalgia for it from playing it in an arcade near where I went to college every morning. I play as Mauru. It'd be great to see you play this in a tournament where you don't have to worry about AI nonsense.

I'm impressed we didn't see any of the Hara Hara attacks. Each character has an unblockable super which does massive damage but is telegraphed well in advance. A couple characters started the charge up animations (when the screen started flashing "WARNING") but I don't think we saw any actual executions. Justin's reaction would have been good for clicks. 😉

My favorite SNK game on emulator forever was Power Moves: Matrimelee. That shit was bonkers. Maybe not Waku Waku tier crazy, but it was brain damaging enough.
