- The Guardian of the Oasis, Apep, is a new weekly boss in Genshin Impact version 3.6. This fight serves as the climax and conclusion of the brand new Nahida story quest part 2, where we get an awesome cutscene and tons of new Genshin lore drops. I'm a drummer, and this is my reaction to the new Genshin Apep boss theme!
It's been brought to my attention that this version of the song is not the official release, and has some differences from the official track, titled God Devouring Mania. However, the Hoyo-Mix upload of God Devouring Mania was uploaded AFTER I had already recorded this video, and that song has now been deleted from the Hoyo Mix official channel.

The Warden of the Oasis is not Apep, more like a white blood cell in Apep's immune system. Apep is a whole lot larger

@SirDepression but in some languages, Apep is called “he”, so he’s basically he and english dub chose to not speak its gender. though i may be wrong but many other languages stated him as “he”, so yeah..
Yeah sumeru is the winner of the genshin OST so far.. the soundtracks is so emotional and make me get into the gameplay with all of my emotions

3:37 is the classic genshin leitmotif, you can hear this melody in almost any genshin music
not any, but battle themes particularly, it’s Photon of Fluctuation leitmotif
@Shibu🔅 nah fam, actually you can hear this leitmotif almost anywhere, in Demos, Version Trailers and OSTs really.

@@peho2757 bro this leitmotif is specially designed for battle themes, you will only find this in battle themes of every region, and this is the first boss which has photon of fluctuation leitmoti in the theme

It's actually easy to miss it if you don't pay full attention to the OSTs.
The way photon of fluctuation leitmotif is in here makes me emotional, cause thats usually reserved for regional battle songs and YET. Also soundtrack is out now, this track is named god devouring mania and an absolute banger of a war song, i hope to keep up apep's weekly chemo for years to come lmao
Not to mention how you are practically fighting in a whole other world. With Apep's body being a homeland in of itself. It pretty much *is* a regional battle song!

as this was originally supposed to be chasm battle theme, It’s really obvious why it has photon of fluctuation even though it’s a boss theme
@@Shibu_069 Really? That's rather interesting. Where/when did they mention that? Especially considering this doesn't suit the Chasm at all.
@@XenoWars you can just search chasm unused theme, it was in game’s files and wasn’t used until genshin decided to re do this song with sumeru touch to it

Huge agree. Sumeru as a whole has been an absolute joy
I noticed the heartbeat effects, but I only after reading this did I remember that the Dendro symbol is literally a heart.

The music itself is already gorgeous, but playing the boss fight alongside the music is really eye opening cause it fits perfectly.
*EDIT* - The official upload has been re-listed by Hoyo-Mix now, but either way, it wasn't there when I recorded and uploaded this video. Y'all gotta chill with dropping the same comment over and over telling me this isn't the official release 😅
I'm getting a lot of people commenting about how the audio I listened to isn't the official release. Two things:
1 - That release of God-Devouring Mania was done after I recorded this video, so I wouldn't have seen it anyway.
2 - As of today, that release has since been deleted from the Hoyo-Mix channel and is so longer available. It was barely up for an hour when they unlisted it. Super weird!
Despite other bosses, you are not fighting Apep for survival or to kill it, you are fighting him to heal and save him!
I think the music shows this feeling: Is not as dark as others bosses, it has the same epicness, but with hope in it.
At least that is the impression it brings to me.
I just played this story quest and heard how Apep is pronounced... no one talk to me about it 😓

What is intetesting is that Apep is the name of an ancient spirit of evil, darkness and destruction in Egypt. As the arch enemy of the sun god, Ra, he is a malevolent force who can never be entirely vanquished. Every night, as the sun travels though the underworld (or across the sky), his roar will fill the air and he launches his attack.
Smooth key changes at the end from minor into major... Just so slick!! I'm in love with this boss theme ❤

The last variant you hear has been scrapped, it's the shame that they removed the best variant of phase 3
What I love about this boss theme is that it gives the illusion that you are finished, then it comes back around like..."Nah, here's round two"😆

This theme is literally a rollercoaster of build ups and drop offs. And somehow it worked
Just one thing, the oficial track is a little bit different, HOYO-MiX included an original ending that is quite different.
that ending they included plays during the transition cutscene from phase 1 to 2
They do that for the better experience on the game play bro so the transition will not sound weirdly while you playing the game
The climax seriously sound like some kind of Ufotable soundtrack production especially for Demon Slayer.

7:12 i listened to this track with Dolby Atmos ON yes i heard that. I even heard more instruments from the BGM in the Apple Music than in game
There's the official version out now where it has a proper resolution at the end
The song repeats itself because apep dies and revived, and repeats. Thats why it goes harder second time

The bip-bop synth thingy in the background near the end reminds me of the sound of a heart monitor

Sumeru music is second best for me. I like enkanomiya music mostly. But for apep the battle music similar to it.
Some parts kinda reminds me to chrono trigger theme
I don't know why this song has intro to the Inazuma battle theme at 3:36, Overlord of the Thunderstorm. It is in the Sumeru desert region (Egyptian), but it has that Japanese feel to it somehow.
That's not an Inazuma-specific theme, it's a variation on what a lot of people would consider Genshin's main theme. You can hear variations of it in many battle themes and character demos. To arbitrarily pick one, listen to the first few seconds of Diona's character demo.
