I am astounded by how strong and vibrant the Commodore 64 community still is in this "modren" age. This wireless device would have been a must-have back in the day if modern networking was available then. If you're going to run a C64, it's a must-have now. Thanks for bringing the "crunchy goodness" in your video.

When I was younger I always wanted to make a game where I could walk in a real place like my home town, and now it is even possible to use the whole world on the C64!! Very impressive.

Did you send this message directly from a C64?

@universal70 I have a c64 on my desk and a sx64 upstairs, but I did send the message via a phone.

The first connection took me back to Compunet in 1985. Very exciting times, I spent a large part of my teenage years on the C64 publishing music on there (Mighty Bogg). I don't have the patience/time/inclination to do this sort of thing these days, but it's incredibly clever.

I have some of your stuff on a music sampler disk! What impressed me then was that it would drop back into BASIC after setting up and starting the tune so the music was playing in the background while you were running BASIC.
Always cool to see some people I've heard of or ran software from.

@@senilyDeluxe The first time I saw that it was on a version of Maniac by Hall & Oates. No idea who made it. I probably stole the interrupt routine, not clever enough to make one!

This WIC64 cartridge is a nice WiFi modem with a small display to show the connection info.
However, you can turn any IP modem cartridge like the Ultimate-II+ and others into wireless by simply connecting a small WiFi adapter to its ethernet port. The adapter can be configured remotely over WiFi or ethernet connected to a pc prior to connecting to the modem and will function as if it was connected via ethernet.
Besides the WIC64, there are a couple of other WiFi modems available like the StrikeLink-WiFi, C64-WiFi, Link232-WiFi, etc.

I never thought a Commodore 64 would be able to view Google Maps and also even do Street View.
Lately I've been taking current photos from the last 15 years and making them 320X200 GIF files and using a few diffrent GIF converters on my C=64 VICE Emulator. I made a video of some of the conversions on my channel.

I'm assuming there are specific firmware functions in here that aren't available on other WiFi modem solutions for the C64? Like this won't work on the WiModem for example?

I think this would work better implemented as a cartridge similar to Kungfu flash, then the data could be loaded directly into (simulated) RAM bypassing the slow serial port.

Couldn't you load the WiC Kernal into the space starting $2000 (without clearing the BASIC part)? I've done this a few times for VersaCart multi ROMs.
https does work. The WiC64 takes care of the encryption.
The hanging causes issues with SID Radio too, though it only hung once in my last 4 hour stream 😉

Nice can you load files directly from CSDB?

    • @Arcticretro
      @Arcticretro  ปีที่แล้ว

No, I don't think so. I did not see any possibility for that. The problem is that most files are zipped online, and the C64 cannot unzip it. Maybe if someone made a proxy-server that could do it, it would be possible.
