    I have been watching Martin for many years - 2009? He is both a great coach and a good guy - I wish I lived over there. This series has been excellent - thanks Ian.

    Ian, if I had that 76-78 yard shot from the fairway I would NEVER use my 58* wedge (54* maybe occasionally if I needed to carry the ball all the way to within 6-8 yards of the pin). My first choice would be to hit a "2/3 shot" with my 49* gap wedge (full swings with this club = 100-105 yards). Between the "pre-worn" leading edge and the V-Sole design, that 49* wedge gives me better results far more often that grabbing more loft and trying to hit the ball all the way to the pin (or very close to that far).

    When I played in NW England and Scotland a few months ago, my caddies were trying to get me to putt from as far away as 70 yards from the greens. I never putted from that far off because I was hitting my wedges well all but the first few holes on day #1, but I did hit a good number of 50 yard putts. Martin makes a good point when he says, "if you can putt, putt the ball". I know it worked for me on the tight fescue fairways of those links courses.

      Funny story, I took a group of my members around 15 years ago to Scotland. The first round, I never saw more chili dips. I am a ball first guy, whereas, my members were a little bit Scoopy, with no room to scoop and thus it was a lot of cleanup on aisle five all day.

    I first came across Martin Chuck on Reveloution golf and I liked the cut of his jib from the get go. Explaining the golf swing is not an easy thing for everyone to get, in my experience as an average player it's very easy to misinterpret advice but he has a good skill of simple communication.

    Despite playing golf for decades the worst part of my game by far was my short game, from 80 yards and in I used to haemorrhage shots at an alarming rate!
    That was until my 11-year-old grandson decided that he wanted to play golf with grandpa Bandit. So as an intro to golf I started taking him to the academy Par3 Course at our local Club. After a month of just messing around suddenly, my short game became razor sharp. The holes range in length from 50 to 110 yards and the Greens are tiny and there are lots of undulations. So the moral of the story is if you want a great short game get yourself a Grandkid!

    Loved the stuff with Martin. The problem for the average golfer is these shots are hard to practice. Range balls aren’t great for wedges and many chipping greens don’t have room for mid range wedge shots

  • @deanh891
    @deanh891 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    curious about club selection inside 100. Is this a preference to use a 3/4ish lob wedge? what about using a 54? 50?

    • @andymccormick7542
      @andymccormick7542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been a 4 handicap or better since I’ve been 14 (I’m 31 now) and I almost never hit a full wedge unless I have to clear a bunker or hazard to a front pin. My 52* is a go to anywhere between 70-120 because I worked hard on dialing in these swing lengths and tempos. Much bigger room for error and a lot easier to make solid contact/control flight and spin

    Brakes on for half swings or all swings?.

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Full send on full swings for the most part. On occasion, I change someone’s breaking pattern to speed up their club head. They drag and don’t let the club flee.

    I feel like I learned golf backwards. Under 100 yards is my wheelhouse. A lot of this stuff is common sense to me, whereas I'll struggle with 3 off the tee or terrible 2nd shots all day.

  • @MussbacherIndustries
    @MussbacherIndustries 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry, kind of disagree with the tip especially for the mid to high handicapper. I would suggest shorting the grip to establish the yardage required. For example for the SW = mid-grip ~70yds, low grip ~ 50yds and of course full grip ~ 90yds. Deacceleration or stopping the swing as suggested is less consistent, in my view. And yes, some golfers find great success with backswing to 9 o'clock, 11 o'clock etc..... my point is keeping the swing through-out the swing for all clubs. My 2 cents worth. Enjoyed the video.

    • @kourt2469
      @kourt2469 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gripping down an inch is not dropping 20 yards. Most people grip down and will.still.hit it almost the same distance. Only way it's going shorter is if they also drastically slow down their swing

    • @MussbacherIndustries
      @MussbacherIndustries ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kourt2469 I agree with your point however, we are talking wedges and not long irons or driver. Those clubs, I total agree with your point. I am talking delicate shots with the wedge, where finding a mid-grip or bottom of grip changes would result with better yardage control to help the high handicapper more so.

    Outstanding shot game approach for many type of distances using THIS style of hitting a shot. Ian, I wold have recommend used a 52-54 degree wedge for such shots, get that hight down in order to control the trajectory. I approach distance of this nature as mid-long pitch shots.

  • @teerex8488
    @teerex8488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Generally speaking I really think that Martin Chuck is awesome but this one didn’t do it for me. It was basically a lesson on how to saw-off a wedge shot follow through. There wasn’t any real mention on how to judge distance or develop a gapping system. He obviously has one that he stands by and believes in but it wasn’t communicated well in this video imo.
    I still gave it a 👍 because I do think that he is an amazing communicator.
