The plot and the missions too. GTA IV has influences of drama-thriller genre, a story of broken dreams and redemption. On the other hand, GTA V is like a wacky action comedy. Los Santos is sun and joyness, Liberty City is cold and darkness.

When San Andreas was set in Los Santos, it could achieve that darkness so it isn't about L.S. It's the environment and GTA IV is done a lot better in that regard.
GTA 4 was way ahead of its time but sadly underrated
During its heyday it was massive but I think everyone took for granted how detailed and well written it was and now it's kinda forgotten.
I really like GTA 4 Gunplay mechanic, you can dissarm enemy weapons or shoot limbs to knocking down the enemies but not necesarry killing them. You can literally doing a "Pacifist Run" (Only killing important Characters but not enemy thugs / police) with this mechanic, it also fits with niko character since he didn't really enjoy killing.

I miss the car and character physics the most. The driving in GTA IV was the best and actually made a difference if you were on a sportscar or not. You had to be a good driver to escape players chasing you.

Gta4 even has a better story and backstory of characters for example niko was a soldier and also,there was rusty abbandoned cars called beaters and you can drive them. Also gta4 has lot of enterable interiors and stuff

My point exactly GTA 4 is one of the darkest games ever released it shows the dark side of America how criminal underworld run the city corruption everywhere foreigners coming smuggling drugs murders violence high level crime and many many more while GTA 5 is a comedy joke it has 3 protagonists one is a former retired bank robber one psychopath and one gang member and none of them were taken seriously Trevor is a joke Michael is boring and Franklin is lame comparing those 3 against Niko Louis and Johnny the best chances are that they'll lose against them Niko is a war veteran he's calm he's always on his guard he always watches his back and is prepared fighting him in hand to hand combat is impossible and Trevor who may have served in the war too doesn't have a chance his rage and anger will only make him vulnerable against Niko Louis served in the military and now he's a small time criminal Franklin will lose against him Michael against Johnny Johnny Klebitz can call his Lost Brotherhood and use his brute strength against old man Michael so yeah GTA 4 wins

The reason euphoria physics were simplified was due to technological limitations of xbox360 and ps3. Idk what stopped them from upgrading when going to ps4, xone and pc but theres that.
the ps3 had gta iv as well as the xbox 360 so that's not really an excuse, i'm pretty sure it was simplified since players wanted a less realistic experience and something a bit more arcadey if you get what i mean
@@Gamer23car it is literally that reason. Gta 4 is much smaller in comparison while GTA V is huge map wise and got a lot of more content and side content. If they were able to put amazing physics there im sure they would have just like they did to rdr2.

@@Gamer23car GTA V has much larger scale and more complexity than GTA IV. You might not even realise how severely limited both PS3 and Xbox 360 is for the scale of the game that needs to be put into the hardware. In fact, most open world games in the era don't even have maps as large as what GTA V has. To compensate, it needs constant resource streaming and compression algorithm in order to fit the game into small space with minimal locking (both Xbox 360 and PS3 has special vector instruction sets to do it). No wonder why they took off collision body out of dead bodies.
I think one really nice thing about GTA IV, is that you can pick up and throw a lot of objects, like the brick, the glass etc (I don't know if you can do that in GTA V, I've never played it)

The water physics in gta 4 requires very much computing power and causes the game to lag.
Probably I never really had a problem, even when i play in 2010 personally

That’s what most of the downgrade can be accounted to, they had to release GTA 5 on the same system as GTA 4 with better graphics. GTA 5 technically is way more impressive than GTA 4

This isnt an issue while playing on the Series X
This was the first thing I noticed after I got my copy of GTAV... And was so disappointed. Nearly everything else was great, except for the physics. Only us who know, actually know.

Euphoria physics, shooting, fighting.. all these mechanics were dumbed down in GTA 5. Melee combat is much more fun in GTA IV than in gta v.

shooting was dumbed down? in GTA 4, absolutely every bullet flies to one point. the weapon has no scatter and recoil. GTA 5 has EVERYTHING.

I think Rockstar did a good job with the fighting system by following the way of VCS and making it better. I can't describe the fun I had by throwing Diego and Jerry off the skyscraper in the last mission. GTA IV tweaked it.
In my opinion, exploring the map or free roaming is fun in GTA V, but it doesn't really make me want to play through the story.
On the other hand, GTA IV makes me want to play the story
They were planning to have a countryside in GTA IV too...
What about exploring the map in gta 4 is it as fun as gta 5

But every GTA had content cut off during development - a lot of stuff are present in the game files that come with the original game, GTA San Andreas is a great example. If Rockstar weren't such d!ckheads chasing after modders we could have restored a lot of the cut stuff - guess someone should note to the angry Rockstar employees we need the source code for the older titles, not GTA V

I think the car damage in gtaV back when it was released on ps3 was better then when it came out for ps4 and pc the damage model is downgraded, probably to fit with first person cockpit view so you can still see over the bonnet...........and obviously cheap out resources for more performance

I think they did this to lower costs of production especially for GTA Online.
Also, the problem is you can't "see" physics you can only "feel" it. So production managers don't see as far as just an advertising.

Yes you can choose between kick and punch in GTA 5... In Xbox B punches while A kicks and X is for dodging
It seems clear Rockstar focused more on making the open world look more good and detailed in GTA V.

tip for you in gta 5 you can make a car engine run even when you get out of the car simply get out as normal and punch or kick than press to enter the car the character will enter faster, when you leave the car the engine will still run

It's a darn shame they dumb GTA 5 down compared to 4. GTA 4 came out when I was 18 and it was fun yee it didn't have all this fancy stuff like 5 does but I enjoy riding around and testing the physics as it was literally a blast.
Let's just say this from a playstation pov.
You can kick if you are locked on to the person by pressing x. You can leave the car engine running if you leave the car with the joystick pushed away so that the character doesn't have time to close the door and if that doesn't work just jump out when it's driving

A tip- If franklin jumps off a moving car it will stay on when you will enter it

The downside that really bugged me with GTA IV was that I always had trouble saving and designing cars I wanted. I didn’t know how to do that.
Everything else seemed more realistic as you’re pointing out.

GTA IV: Push before punching and you can pick up objects then throw them at NPCs, NPCs actually fight back. You can buy food from vendors and restaurants to refill your health.
GTA V: You can taunt, cause road rage (only with certain drivers), you cannot buy food from restaurants only from convent stores and soda vending machines.

I forgot about the fighting. Fighting was fun in GTA IV. There was even a trophy I think for not getting hit or something or killing a number of people unarmed in a certain amount of time. In the Ballad of Gay Tony I think, there was even a fight club.
In GTA V, well that's non existent, fighting isn't really a thing, everyone just pulls a gun or runs, it sucks. One thing, GTA V has that IV doesn't, ARM WRESTLING yay lol

I just re bought GTA 4 as it is currently on Xbox sale.
I’ve always thought that GTA 4 graphics and mechanics are better than GTA 5. I think rockstar put more effort and work into the ‘ scenic ‘ and textures side of the game rather than its mechanic and GTA 4 the opposite.
Also GTA 4 came out around the same time as RDR1 which is WAYYY ahead of its time so rockstar has borrowed mechanics from both games and both games are masterpieces. 1999- 2010 was when rockstar was elite.

You do know the only vehicles that can look like it got super damaged in GTA V is the vehicles that were first in the game but most of all other vehicles added over time don't get the same treatment. I'm serious take a old car from 2013 into a huge open crate and watch it smack around then take a newer car into it and watch it smack around but not get damaged as much. It's a shame. And people whom I talk to never played GTA 4 and it makes me sad as it's a fun experience

The driving in 5 is less realistic but more fun. In no other GTA game have I driven as much. I dreaded driving in 4 honestly.
