Kansas was a great band from the 70's. Their musical style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock & progressive rock. "Carry On Wayward Son" & "Dust In The Wind" are their 2 biggest hits. But they had other good songs such as "Point Of Know Return", "Hold On", "People Of The South Wind", "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", "All I Wanted" etc. You really need to watch their official video to this song!
The hair guy was Robbie Steinhardt. He was a vocalist and played violin. Sadly he died a couple years ago before his solo album "Not In Kansas Anymore" came out. It's a killer record too !
I love seeing music bring smiles to people’s faces like yours. We had it good growing up. Such a thrill watching new generations discover ‘our’ music. 😃
Actually, the song was written in a day at the last minute then recorded live in the studio in one take. Magic. And now their 50th anniversary tour is happening.
Kansas has an entire Universe of great songs that no one (besides true fans) has heard before. Sure everyone knows the 2 great tunes they released on singles, *Carry on Wayward Son* and *Dust in the Wind* (which you must listen to next!) but there are many other tremendously inventive and progressive songs. Try the following 11 on for size when you get a chance (listed in order of release) --- and there are many other's --- most of their great material appeared on their first 5 albums released between 1974 and 1977: 01. *Belexes* 02. *Child of Innocence* 03. *Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel* 04. *The Wall* 05. *What's on my Mind* 06. *Miracles out of Nowhere* 07. *The Spider* / *Portrait (He Knew)* --- _listen to these as one song._ 08. *Closet Chronicles* 09. *Sparks of the Tempest* 10. *Nobody's Home* 11. *Hopelessly Human*
We who grew up with this music aren't always aware that younger people have never heard it. Back in the seventies, we didn't have to have music sent to us or recommended to us, because the best-selling songs were played over and over and over on the radio for all to hear. We didn't have to seek them out. I forget that it isn't like that today. Also, if you like this 1976 song, you'll also like mid- to late seventies Boston. Try "Foreplay/Long Time" from 1976. Also try "Roundabout" by Yes from 1971. Those should really appeal to a keyboard player like yourself.
The cw network had a show called "supernatural" it was on the air from 2005 to 2020. Kansas was always featured on the show,s soundtrack. Wayward was played every second or third show. That's why kansas has never faded away.
From the summer of '76 baby ! Great year for rock. This album called Leftoverture is a desert island disc. Not a bad song on it. Listen to the whole album !
They have so many great tracks like this. He Knew, which is actually about Leonardo DaVinci, I'm Only Saying, Point Of No Return (from their iconic album Point of Know Return), Dust in the Wind, just to name a few!
Uh no!! The two guitarists are Kerry Livgren and Rich Williams, Williams is still touring with the modern day version of Kansas and Livgren formed bands called Proto-Kaw, AD and did some solo titled work, neither of them had anything to do with the song Black Betty!!
I saw them in 1982 and they sound just as awesome live! "Dust in the Wind" is still my favorite. Red never wore shoe on stage and he was an excellent violinist.
Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way with roughly $1 a gallon for gas on bikes. Hell yeah.😎😎 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album. "Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other awesome songs from that era 45 years ago. They're still played on classic rock radio. "Surely Heaven waits for you"😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Actually, after they had finished leftoverture, the blonde guy said" hay guys, i got one more song. The drummer was putting away his gear. When Kerry introduced this to the band, THEY KNEW THEY HAD THEIR FIRST HIT SINGLE. Kerry wrote it the night before.
The hairy dude doesn't do much more than backing vocals on this one, but if you check out their other hit - they were a two-hit wonder - "Dust in the Wind" you'll see him playing his violin.
They play even more instruments - e.g. violin. Check out "Dust In The Wind" and "Point Of No Return". You liked the organ in your 70's rock, try Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time", "Smokin'", or "Hitch A Ride".
Linden NJ.. Ice skaing at the pond then going into the hut for hot chocolate under the fire.. Damn those days are so long gone.. cant even send your kids to those schools anymore. glad i grew up there, awesome memories.. but glad I moved out to pa to raise my family
As it turns out, the song almost did not make the album. Kerry Livgren wrote the song one night and shared it with the band, who were already packing up to leave the studio. Once they heard it, they unpacked their stuff and recorded this song. Don Kirshner knew this would be their breakout song when he heard the track
Now listen to this with this in in mind. This was written for men returning from Vietnam with severe PTSD, minds broken. The tempo changes signify the pain going on in their minds. He is trying to tell these men, please dont cry. Lay your weary heads to rest. It is a very sad song actually. Oh the chaos in their minds.
This song came out the year i graduated from HS! One of the most creative & talented @ that time! My fav song from them is prophetic " Curtain of Iron" Could you please react to it? Thanks!
Check out their track Portrait, aka He Knew. And your reaction is great because when this was new we liked it but didn't see what you see, because this is what music was in the 1970's.
I would suggest "He knew" but they have a lot of great stuff as you can tell. So many bands - STYX / Triumph / Janes Addiction / ZZ Top / Scorpions / YES to name a small few.
EVERY MEMBER IN KANSAS IS A GENIUS VOCALIST OR MUSICIAN OR BOTH,EVERY ONE OF THEM,ALL OF THEM COULD OF PLAYED IN ANY TOP 5 BAND ,BUT NO,THEY ALL GOT TOGETHER IN KANSAS AND WELL JUST LISTEN,LISTEN TO ALL OF THEIR OFFERINGS----------ESPECIALLY LEFT OVERATURE
Why would you need psychedelics to write this? Why can't a brilliant and talented "normal" mind write this without the help of drugs? Actually, there is absolutely nothing "psychedelic" sounding about this song.
True Rock at its finest !! 😎
Now your life's no longer empty....surely Heaven waits for you!!!

Brings so many good memories to mind.
Great recommendations
Still touring celebrating 50 years.
The hair guy was Robbie Steinhardt. He was a vocalist and played violin. Sadly he died a couple years ago before his solo album "Not In Kansas Anymore" came out. It's a killer record too !
Robbie was a classically trained violinist.
If you want to see what "Big Red" ( Robbie Steinhardt) brings musically to the band, watch the official video for "Dust in the Wind".
I love hearing your reaction to discovering Kansas. They seem to me now to be 12 bands in one. So talented musically, and I love the lyrics too!
Saw them live and they killed it! A then unknown Cheap Trick opened and blew the roof off. One of the best concerts ever.
No auto tune here!!! 1970’s music

Classic rock at it's best. This is from the album Left Overture. A masterpiece. 🎸

Dust in the wind is a great song! Robbie plays a beautiful violin ❤
From the summer of '76 baby ! Great year for rock. This album called Leftoverture is a desert island disc. Not a bad song on it. Listen to the whole album !
THAT is how you appreciate music ❤
He hit on the bongos. You would have loved the 70s. Thanks for this awesome reaction 😊
Congas are the larger free standing drums he's playing. Bongos are smaller and played on the lap.
Boston,for play/ long play
They have so many great tracks like this. He Knew, which is actually about Leonardo DaVinci, I'm Only Saying, Point Of No Return (from their iconic album Point of Know Return), Dust in the Wind, just to name a few!
Green Tambourine
Great song. The guitarist later formed another band called
Ram Jam ! they had a big hit called
Black Betty ! Awesome song!
Uh no!! The two guitarists are Kerry Livgren and Rich Williams, Williams is still touring with the modern day version of Kansas and Livgren formed bands called Proto-Kaw, AD and did some solo titled work, neither of them had anything to do with the song Black Betty!!
KANSAS was a Great band. All talented musicians. They had few great albums this was my favorite . Sadly the guy with red hair passed away.
It’s a great song!
I saw them in 1982 and they sound just as awesome live!
"Dust in the Wind" is still my favorite.
Red never wore shoe on stage and he was an excellent violinist.
You need a deep dive into their catalog.
One of the epic bands of my time. Need to do Peter Frampton one of the most underrated guitarist besides prince.
Exactly!!! Peter Frampton is amazing!!!
Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). You are a joy to watch. I love your open, pure facial reactions when you hear something new. Keep it up.
This is my favorite song by them it rocks
Great reaction! They have a few great songs. Dust in the wind is my favorite.
Dust In The Wind is an incredible song from that era. I always forget about it until I hear it again so I am going to add it to the playlist now.

"Two hit wonder" ?
You need to expand your point of view. They have much more than you are aware of.
@@wilburrrrr742 What else did they have that reached the top 40?
They play even more instruments - e.g. violin. Check out "Dust In The Wind" and "Point Of No Return".
You liked the organ in your 70's rock, try Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time", "Smokin'", or "Hitch A Ride".

All killer song choices and reviews today Ace!!!
One of the best Rock songs of all time. Great 70’s music.
Lesson given.
As it turns out, the song almost did not make the album. Kerry Livgren wrote the song one night and shared it with the band, who were already packing up to leave the studio. Actually Kerry Livgren wrote this about his personnel spiritual journey that eventually led him to Christianity.
Loved your reaction Subscribed
That lead singer though totally unfair he sings amazing and his mustache is just as great as his hair like how 😧
This is a classic!!!
Kansas is a progressive rock band that is well worth exploring.
This song came out the year i graduated from HS! One of the most creative & talented @ that time! My fav song from them is prophetic " Curtain of Iron" Could you please react to it? Thanks!
We had master musicians in the 1970s.
The Pinnacle is their masterpiece
Best song ever@
Check out their track Portrait, aka He Knew. And your reaction is great because when this was new we liked it but didn't see what you see, because this is what music was in the 1970's.
Check out Canadian rock bands April Wine - Roller.
Triumph- Lay It on The Line.
I think you'd also really like Joe Walsh (from the Eagles) Rocky Mountain Way and The James Gang "Funk 49".
I would suggest "He knew" but they have a lot of great stuff as you can tell. So many bands - STYX / Triumph / Janes Addiction / ZZ Top / Scorpions / YES to name a small few.
I think you are referring to a tambourine. 😊😊
Did you say" I hope I pronounced Kansas right?"
You're American right? Kansas as your state in the US😁
I thought he was from and in the carribbean?
Shooting Star... Last chance
Kansas " Miracles Out of Nowhere " next?

So what kind of music did you listen to growing up?....classic rock like this is a huge list of bands!!!!
Thank God for psychedelics, lol, this awesomeness cannot be written by a normal mind
Although Kerry Livgren said he stayed away from the drugs and partying the other band members were doing at that time.
Why would you need psychedelics to write this? Why can't a brilliant and talented "normal" mind write this without the help of drugs? Actually, there is absolutely nothing "psychedelic" sounding about this song.
Need to do a song by Player called baby come back
Bongo drums
You had to have big talent back in the day if you wanted a record deal. Average wouldn't get it done.
У Шамана очередной 💥 клип, на много лучше чем это 😏
Modern music sucks right?
Rock at it finest!!🔥Ace please do, Earth, Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland
