those who don t like martha Argerich are just jealous. she has so much talent and so much technique and can play so precisely in rythm as could horowitz. And as she worked hard all her live , the result is here with many works recorded in a phascinating quality
i have always loved Argerich’s playing. whether we like it or not, speed is always a measure of technique in piano playing. And to add/balance speed with musicality is another story which Argerich is so well
I've tried playing this piece and sure at one time I worked it up close to my own idea of perfection- but this is beyond what I can even imagine playing- ridiculously good.
such quality which Martha Argerich presents to us... there are some jealous comments here which are ridiculous.... She sets with each recording new standards in music interpretation. Yes she plays quick where the piece needs it. But it is still controlled and well done also musicalement. The difficulty is not to play quick but also to give the right expression to the melodies even when you do it quick. She does it perfectly.... as all ever....
I`m fascinated with this astonishing interpretation! I think Martha is often too fast but in this case the tempo is perfect. I can heare the first movement of this sonata again and again...
para vos , que lo escuchas desde el cielo MARTHA PASSARO , asi lo tocabas en el dpto de paraguay , donde me dabas clases de piano , tu alummna que nunca te olvida , Monica
"Speed is an important element in romantic period music". I always thought that music itslef is an important element in music of any period. Thanks for sharing your great insights! You really made my day having a good laugh reading that stupidity will live forever! :)
She expressed it in a very different way, a very powerful Schumann, and technically, but she also did brilliant on expressing some of the musical and lyrical phrase..
The score actually tells you to speed it up. You have probably not listen to the end. Speed is an important element in romantic period music and Martha just masters it. She masters the slow parts as welll. If you dont like it just go and dont pretend you know a lot about music.
I can´t deny Argerich´s mastery.....but remember faster doesn´t mean better.....listen to the interpretation of Maurizio Pollini of this sonate....u can listen to more mysterious effects and internal voicings that u will miss them at this vertigo.....and i am a fan of Martha Argerich....
Toca precioso.. no entiendo como este vídeo tiene tan solo 86007 visitas.. mientras payasadas como la tigresa del oriente mas de 2 millones.. es lamentable, el caso, que grandeza! ♥
It is really stunning and beautiful. Her interpretation is full of colour! (as to smithsherm..., don't pay attention to him, he belongs to a variety of "troll" among users)
Yes , as ' Fast as Possible ' ... but still , what was ' Fast as Possible ' to Schumann ... well , its only my Opinion . Argerich is one of my Favorites . I follow her Career since the very Beginning .
that's right; because of the increasing diversity of the possibilities for what we may dedicate our time to, we are becoming progressively, and actually genetically, lazier in our dedication to single subjects exclusively, despite the reality of the rising professional specializations, which is just a disaster for science. i wouldn't be surprised if this piece was performed at an even faster tempo by Schumann himself, or with accordance to his personal instructions.
3cplantin: Speed doesn't have anything to do with musical quality. This is an olympic recording indeed. Who will win the 100 meter? I agree with kjw163 that the merit of this performance is speed, nothing else.
This version is incredible kiwibd. I took the liberty of sending you my version if you do not mind. It is different in many ways, but I think it is a good interpretation. Hope you do not mind.
Herr SchumannAsaSacrilege (beaut nick by the way)... Mme Argerich may not be of your liking and your comparison to a week of torrid lovemaking is pretty good whether accurate or not. I like Martha's videos, she puts a lot of passion in her performance, then again, what do I know? Besides I think a week's shenanigans of those that leave you breathless wouldn't be too bad. Forgive my jesting. Just had to lighten up the whole page. Bob
dunno how i could write 'from' instead of 'front,' and then click without reading it over. i guess i'm not like Argerich when it comes to being strong.
this is very risky playing. Cziffra was also a risk-taker like Argerich. music like this exists because of musicians whom are not afraid to go for it and play to the limits of their physical ability in from of thousands of people.
LOL Yeah I know what you mean but that is why she is legendary. One thing you learn from any artist is a new way to look at a piece or a new outlook on anything you see. Thats what you should learn from her take her playings into perspective and affiliate them into your playing. NOT TO MUCH though you wanna keep your originality it is the only thing that seperates one human being from another.
She is the best pianist that ever existed. I love her...and she's Argentinian as I am!!!!
This is a marvelous collection Thank you !I love piano and Martha Argerich
Just visiting as I am a great admirer of Argerich! Bob
Wonderful! Argerich truly captures the 'Florestan' persona of Schumann prevalent in this movement magnificently.

Holy SMOKES!
That is pure ocean-wind energy.... unbelievable.... and clear as a bell, too.
A goddess.

Such amazing passion, I love this recording!

In this case it does. The tempo marking literally means "as fast as possible", and then further in, "faster," and after that "faster still".
She expressed it in a very different way, a very powerful Schumann, and technically, but she also did brilliant on expressing some of the musical and lyrical phrase..
Uf, que tempo.
Es una de las mejores versiones, tal vez la mejor, de esta sonata.
Music comes alive when she plays it!
It's amazing, unbelievable !!
The score actually tells you to speed it up.

She masters the slow parts as welll. If you dont like it just go and dont pretend you know a lot about music.
This is exactly how I have wished to be able to play it, in this rush of hot blood AND in full technical control!
SO GREAT!!! IT IS SCHUMANN FOR ME !
I can´t deny Argerich´s mastery.....but remember faster doesn´t mean better.....listen to the interpretation of Maurizio Pollini of this sonate....u can listen to more mysterious effects and internal voicings that u will miss them at this vertigo.....and i am a fan of Martha Argerich....
those octaves races to your heart.

speechless...happy to be alive.
This is crazy. R. Schumann would be liked this performence surely.
absolutely great.
i'm studying it right now,it's so powerfull and crazy...i love it!
And yet, she still got there.
That's Argerich.
for those who think Argerich can only play that fast without emotion, listen to her 2nd movt of this sonata (where i almost cried)
...but you didn't cry. Why not if she were so great a pianist as you claim?
It is really stunning and beautiful. Her interpretation is full of colour! (as to smithsherm..., don't pay attention to him, he belongs to a variety of "troll" among users)
What an exciting interpretation!
fast but its still clean woww phenomenal
Her skills are breathtaking and this piece is wonderfully done. However, my personal preference is Vladimir Ashkenazy's version.
actually clara schumann's indications in the score are "as fast as possible"

the greatest...
I can play this, just slowed down. my version takes 17 years.
😂😂😂😂😂
こういう演奏は好きやな
I do to. Is really hard to play it at that tempo.
This is truly wonderful. I was unaware of this recording. Where is it from?
Martha Argerich, ¡argentina!
3cplantin: Speed doesn't have anything to do with musical quality. This is an olympic recording indeed. Who will win the 100 meter? I agree with kjw163 that the merit of this performance is speed, nothing else.
Dios mío que belleza!
Argerich WIN!
Kann man dein Klavierkonzert irgendwo hören?
Würde mich sehr interessieren!
Studierst du Musik?
Ich bin etwa so alt wie du und hab das vor ;-)
Rather search wikipedia for Piano Sonata No. 2 (Schumann)
Powerfull!
Not when the tempo is marked "as fast as possible".
robert and clara are smiling i'm sure...MARTHA!

Enough polemic! Just listen to this amazing beauty and enjoy!
good speed balance, I like...
OH MY GOD!
i play this 2x slower xD......she's amazing!!
Ich schließe mich appasionata90 an. Ich würde das Klavierkonzert auch gerne hören, weil ich auch selbst komponiere.
What research do you refer to?
アップ有難う。
16 are frustrated because they can't play this.
maestra.
讚!
I love Martha Argerich too . But I think to Schumann this Version is to fast and ' loud ' .
dunno how i could write 'from' instead of 'front,' and then click without reading it over. i guess i'm not like Argerich when it comes to being strong.
B-E-A-Uteful
Is it too fast ?
I prefer pollini playing schuman. More faster does not mean better
i´m in love with you martha!
@---´--
damnit after listening to this i can't really enjoy what i have on CD anymore.
@nearenough3 you must be God if youre saying this!!!!!!.....
could the people who didn't like this, please post their versions of this, so I can evaluate them?
@Thenonyacheckmarks Nope
only acceptable duckface

Marry me.
No
Sepharite, That comment was meant someone who only uses one braincell. Do you use 2?
I think rommantic music isn't for her. She's more skills for Bach. Her skills are great, but not for this kind of piece.
She always played too fast.
