Xenogears was my introduction into more philosophical/serious rpgs. It really did change how I looked at the world and video games. It's "long winded" at times in comparison to todays quicker paced games but the battling system is tight, the story super complex yet engaging, and the characters feel like people rather than just 8-bit toons for the most part. and the music? orgasmic.
With 25 years of my life dedicated to little else other than gaming, and having played through the catalog of nearly every console... I wish this game received a sequel. I wish the entirety of perfect works was brought to life how the creator of it intended. There has not been such a visionary feat in gaming since.
Would you consider the Xenosaga series to be that successor (even though it's intended as a prequel series)? Keep in mind, Xenosaga also got shrunk from its initial intentions. I imagine that you don't consider Xenosaga a worthy successor. 'Saga feels more adolescent to me: a bit grander, but much sillier.
I felt that Xenosaga failed to live up to what made Xenogears special. Xenogears was defined by a pattern of memorable and large scale events being followed by intense character building and subtle exposition. Each time the pattern repeated, the scale of those events, and the character building, increased exponentially. For example, Fei blows up his home town/ Fei and Elly meet/Fei and Elly get intimately close in a small period of time/ Fei encounters Gebler for the first time. Fei encounters Grahf/ Fei meets Bart and builds a friendship/ Fei meets Balthazar/ Fei Encounters Calamity. Each bout of character building and exposition is like a sentence, with the significant events used as punctuation. This pattern scales up to where a whole country is at stake, then another country, then Shevat, the islands, and Solaris. The entire planet is brought into the scope of the plot, and eventually the character building starts to involve previous incarnations of the characters. The pattern grows to the point where the nature of existence itself falls into the the scale of the story being told. Xenosaga simply does not have as many memorable moments interwoven into intense character building, and the support of well integrated themes. Great lengths of time are spent talking, without the characters or their relationships growing on anywhere near the same scale, and I can’t say that there was even a fraction as many memorable events that stayed with me in my memory. The structure and execution of the writing just does not come anywhere close.
(I know your statement is 2 years old) Xenogears' plot is delivered somewhat poorly, but the actual plot is amazing. (Note: it's still one of my favorite games of all time.)
TheRidleyslayer You won't be disappointed Xenogears is a force in and of itself. though even the creator consider it a"noble failure" Its a classic for die hard rpg-ers and a noble failure I am proud to have played and still own orig. u.s. release of. :D
harru hikari Same here. Xenogears is one of the few games that I still have the original PSX discs for, the others being The Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, & Final Fantasy 9.
I suppose he deemed it a "failure" due to resources and scheduling being diverted into FFVII. Perhaps, if the project had received its intended attention, he would've considered it a success. For the mood and philosophy invested into Xenogears, I wonder if he was a Christian convert, or merely interested in exploring an exotic religious system. Japan in the 90's had a kitsch fascination for Western esoteric Christianity, witchcraft, and occultism, more so than now.
must play this game, a guy tell me you must play this game, i dont know who is that, but he show me a great path, i played this game after the release of 18 years and i played at 25 years, great game still missed 90s at that time I was poor I dont have money to buy PS1
I am going though my first play though of Xenogears (THANK YOU PSN+VITA!! Epic JRPG on the GO!) and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying it, even if the dubbed parts of it are a bit cringe worthy at times.
The actual line spoken is "Total sentence imposed is 10". There is a pretty interesting story of how people finally figured it out on gamefaqs.gamespot.com under "The source of the voice sample in Knight of Fire is confirmed".
THE REMIX IS AMAZING! I LOVE THE RADIO TRANSMISSION INTERPRETATION BUT THE ORIGINAL CLEARLY RECITES, "I HAD SEX IN FRONT OF A GAS CHAMBER!" CHEERS FROM MINNEAPOLIS
***** NO HOW DARE YOU TELL ME OTHERWISE!! LISTEN!! MY FIST IS THE DIVINE BREATH! BLOSSOM O' FALLEN SEED AND DRAW UPON THY INNER POWER! GRANT UNTO THE THE GLORIOUS MOTHER OF DESTRUCTION AAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAD SEX IN FRONT OF A GAS CHAMBER!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the very reason why Xenogears is my favorite game of all time,
I kind of like the radio static as opposed to the "total sentence imposed is ten" thing.
Dude, this track is so sick! Nice rendition.
This is very awesome! I just recently started playing Xenogears for the first time and I love the music. This remix is very nicely done.
I know I’m 3 years late but it was ok, the story bears were nice but the execution was definitely lackluster
Sounds amazing. And the artwork looks great. Nice work!

@@Nomans_Nomen well said!
tbh its not great too animeish and childish@@MrCantStopTheRobot
Love the rendition of Weltall-Id in the vidja screen, not to mention the great music.
It kind of reminds you what the Weltall-Id is: primordial destruction and chaos, the id of the universe in mecha form
all i want is a remake
This is amazing. You should totally remix the Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong.
Never played XenoGears, but it seems like it has good music at the very least, I'll have to check it out.
Its one of those games you play 75% of plot and 25% for combat although the combat is still fun.
Eh, as long as the plot isn't bad and the game play isn't complete crap then I should find it somewhat enjoyable
Darkwaver Studios Fun fact about Xenogears, squaresoft made limited copies. They thought it wouldn't sell.... OOOOOO BOY were they WRONG as HELL XD
Megamando Isn't bad is the understatment of the decate.
(I know your statement is 2 years old)

I think I just thought up what could be a pretty epic fight: Weltall ID vs Master Gundam! :D
🧡💛💚💙 "TOTAL SENTENCED IMPOSED IS TEN"
Where can I get a 1080p version of that image?

Can't wait to go Xenoblade on portable once that is on New 3DS. I'm loving Xenogears on the Vita more than PS3.
FUCK YEAH!! XENOBLADE!!!
FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
wow!
cool audio sample in there
it's from call of duty mw2
Awesome remix, but it just isn't the same without "Nobody can seem to throw the trash can." (yes I know that's not what is actually said).
The actual line spoken is "Total sentence imposed is 10".
There is a pretty interesting story of how people finally figured it out on gamefaqs.gamespot.com under "The source of the voice sample in Knight of Fire is confirmed".
Huh, sounds weird without the "total sex in the gas chamber" line.
THE REMIX IS AMAZING! I LOVE THE RADIO TRANSMISSION INTERPRETATION BUT THE ORIGINAL CLEARLY RECITES, "I HAD SEX IN FRONT OF A GAS CHAMBER!" CHEERS FROM MINNEAPOLIS
Its actually saying "The sentence imposed is ten" in the original.
*****
Ten in Japanese meaning death.
Not that divine I'm afraid...
